One opposing GM called him "maybe the worst player in the history of the [NBA] summer league."

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 17:51 (ten years ago) link

MAYBE THE WORST PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF THE SUMMER LEAGUE

i guess someones got to be it

lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 17:52 (ten years ago) link

i loved that quote

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 17:52 (ten years ago) link

Now, owner James Dolan has turned over the Knicks to Steve Mills as president and general manager. Only in the Knicks' parallel universe can an executive help run the franchise into the ground for a decade with Isiah Thomas, get fired, move into the financial sector, chase the National Basketball Players Association's top job and then, somehow, get his old job back – this time with more power.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 17:54 (ten years ago) link

wow @ that TV revenue story

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 17:56 (ten years ago) link

the knicks have probably made a lot of money in that time, what do they care

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 18:00 (ten years ago) link

well dolan has prob made a lot of money off of MSG

i'm not sure what he cares about

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 18:04 (ten years ago) link

some owners definitely do care about how well their teams do, partic small market teams i would think who depend on large jumps in their teams' popularity to sell jerseys/get on national tv etc, but the knicks are the knicks, they're always gonna be profitable i'd think. dudes in suits are just out there having a good time

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 18:06 (ten years ago) link

i mean dolan seems to desire to win. he could never pay the tax, for example. or he could disinvest himself from the knicks and make hundreds of millions of dollars off of MSG and go spend all his time playing in a band. he just seems to be a massive, massive idiot.

i cant believe none of you had ever heard of this before- i found out sometime a few years ago reading some article about how the spurs manage the business side as a small market team and found out about this aba deal

it's incredible, the contract literally says IN PERPETUITY so those bros are not being jerks (sort of) they are literally just taking what the nba's contract says they get! DUMMMMM

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 18:09 (ten years ago) link

it's sort of the opposite of that dude who owned like 20% of apple and sold if back to them for like 500 bucks or whatever

@celtics Brandon Bass on Brad Stevens: "There's something special about that guy."

i was skeptical abt bringing a coach straight from college but upon further reflection: stevens success at butler wasnt built on recruiting which is how most big name college 'coaches' do it it was based on like basketball stuff, he was so ridiculously successful just kind of unreal levels of successfulnesses, he doesnt have to win right away so he has time to adjust to the pro game im not against college guys making the leap but it seems generally like a season or two as an assistant might be helpful and this set up where the celtics are tanking and he has a long contract can maybe serve the same purpose, hes not an authoritarian like a lot of college coaches a quality which insults nba players

iirc he cares about Daily News Blues, Long White Cadillac, Gonna Kill That Dog (both versions), and other of his blooz jams. To be fair, he also has a song called "Fix the Knicks," so I guess even when he's channelling SRV, cap problems, reemploying Isaiah Thomas and JR Smith's brother are never far from his heart.
