the joy of ilx: nerd lolz in the football thread

http://www.leonardpierce.com/blog/2013/11/12/terror-incognito-or-the-haze-of-war/

This was really good. lots to relate to there. when I first saw those text messages and voicemails from Incognito I thought that it really wasn't much different to things people have said to me (if you replace the n-word with "dirty Jew"). Some people just seemed to get off on being nasty on the field (but are generally nice otherwise) while others are a little more sinister, the type with the same kind of upbringing as this guy, who are told from birth to go sock someone in the mouth. I'm guessing there are guys like Incognito at all levels of football, and maybe a bunch more in the military too. Football just seems to harbor that sort of thing. You really can't even make it through a full practice without getting pissed at somebody.

lolz how did Spergon Wynn get on there

brownie, Friday, 15 November 2013 00:23 (ten years ago) link

hmm

Minnesota Vikings

Following the 2000 season, September 3, 2001, Wynn was traded to the Minnesota Vikings, along with RB Travis Prentice, in exchange for draft picks in the 2002 and 2003 NFL drafts. Wynn was a third string backup to Daunte Culpepper and Todd Bouman in the 2001 and 2002 seasons and played in the last three games of the 2001 season, starting two of them. This was due to season-ending injuries to both Culpepper and Bouman.

brownie, Friday, 15 November 2013 00:25 (ten years ago) link

I remember being mad at Spergon Wynn for not beating the Ravens in the season finale in 2001, because if he had, my Dolphins would have played the Seahawks in the wild card match instead of the Ravens, which would have been a better matchup for us.

Lesbian has fucking riffs for days (Neanderthal), Friday, 15 November 2013 00:27 (ten years ago) link

i dunno, randy might be thinking of the great Todd Bouman. lord who is Todd Bouman, a name that does not ring any bells?

brownie, Friday, 15 November 2013 00:35 (ten years ago) link

ha! i remember throwing a fit because the Colts started Jim Sorgi in the 2nd half and resting Manning in week 16 when the Browns needed a Colts victory to go to the playoffs in 07

brownie, Friday, 15 November 2013 00:38 (ten years ago) link

Jim Sorgi!

brownie, Friday, 15 November 2013 00:39 (ten years ago) link

jim fucking sorgi

don't get me started on jim sorgi

brownie, Friday, 15 November 2013 00:45 (ten years ago) link

Todd Bouman was Culpepper's backup. I remember he got a few starts. god QBs were so bad in that day and age that when Alex Van Pelt did pretty good in relief of Rob Johnson one year they were about to make him an extension offer and make him the starter until Bledsoe became available.

Lord Todd "God" Bouman... was a big idol to yokel racist motherfuckers who didn't think Duante had "leadership abilities" or wasn't a "student of the game" or whatever euphemisms it was

I got to say, I really do like the style of offense the Colts are running.

earlnash, Friday, 15 November 2013 05:00 (ten years ago) link

donald brown being better than trent richardson right now, i gotta say, this is one of my favourite things in football

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 15 November 2013 12:48 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, Richardson absolutely sucks right now.

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Friday, 15 November 2013 18:50 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, I can't be an apologist for that guy anymore. The only rb out of Alabama actually still playing like he did at Alabama is Eddie Lacy, who didn't even go until the second round.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 15 November 2013 19:04 (ten years ago) link

Can't really give up on Richardson though, as Donald Brown didn't look this good for the most part until now. The Colt offense when it's clicking works, but they kind of have fits and starts.

Luck at times seems to do that Favre thing where he throws the ball so hard it sails on him and cuts down a bit of his accuracy.

one of the annoying things abt living in ny was having two teams that took up broadcast slots every week, and while obvs im psyched to watch pats games now i have three, the chances of getting a good out of market game during the day are so low and sad

if brady had just thrown that ball a little deeper they wouldve had to call the pass interference, oh well w/e p cool game in its own way, not a whole lot of possessions lot of clock chewing going on

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 05:15 (ten years ago) link

pats could easily sweep that remaining schedule tbh

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 19 November 2013 05:31 (ten years ago) link

funny thing about getting the three seed from the pats perspective is that they'd be likely to face either the dolphins (rightfully no pats fan would think twice about the pats crushing miami) or the jets (every pats fan would be shitting his pants)

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 19 November 2013 05:33 (ten years ago) link

there's a good chance neither miami or the jets makes it in. next week jets @ bmore is basically huge. ravens have 3 winnable games at home coming up that would get them to 7-6. and miami and the jets have to play each other twice yet.

but yeah, adding bmore to the mix does not help new england's cause. that is 3 potential matchups out of 4 (inc. kansas city) for their first playoff game where basically they need the opposition offense to lose the game. all for the eventual reward of being one score ahead at the start of the 4th quarter vs the broncos and then losing by 21 points.
