watching knicks fans meltdown on twitter is pretty amazing, i have no idea how their fanbase continues to believe in this team year after year, these super hardened cynical savvy people from this worldly city turn totally credulous on this one topic

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 03:24 (ten years ago) link

it's almost endearing

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 03:27 (ten years ago) link

how you could look at the team they've assembled and think it was doing anything more than scraping mediocrity is a thing i will never understand

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 03:28 (ten years ago) link

they are the most irrationally optimistic people i just dont get it, they shd be mired in loathing and fatalism but every year there they are talking themselves into it

yeah i started following all these peripheral netw3rk friends a few years ago, they're def all hilarious but they all seem to be lacking...perspective on what exactly the talent level of their team is

xp yes

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 20 November 2013 03:31 (ten years ago) link

no credible guard play, absolutely nothing from the 4, no depth, no versatility, no role players worth a damn, no young talent, no future

sounds like AMERICA

and blatantly incompetent ownership, if that was boston fans would be predicting one win seasons every year

Melo just doesn't care at all about anything.

Spottie, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 05:21 (ten years ago) link

Spottie, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 05:27 (ten years ago) link

Spottie, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 05:32 (ten years ago) link

Spottie, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 05:33 (ten years ago) link

klay's been playing good d too.

brimstead, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 18:40 (ten years ago) link

yeah guy sort of offhandedly compliments the D as it kinda sends his whole argument to shit, but lets just say on offense hes crazy one dimensionally successful

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 18:47 (ten years ago) link

The full clip of amar'e upthread is even more damning

乒乓, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 20:04 (ten years ago) link

omg the full clip is better than the screen cap!

Spottie, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 20:08 (ten years ago) link

And yeah Klay's D is actually v v solid.

Spottie, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 20:09 (ten years ago) link

amare's no-D fakeout induced a travel, some things just don't show up in the box score

Knicks fans are super interesting, the general level of basketball knowledge in NYC is ultra high but then there's this gigantic blind spot for the Knicks with their fans, ppl really still believe Carmelo is the second or third best player in the league

One morning this summer though I overheard two kids on subway to day camp debating whether Russell's ten rings count for more or less than Jordan's six because if expansion, rule changes, the three point line, etc. these kids were def no older than 10-11 or so

Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade has sold a sitcom to Fox based on his life as an NBA star and single father to two boys.

Is this sitcom going to mysteriously disappear every third week, zing

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 20 November 2013 22:37 (ten years ago) link

Perhaps it will get dragged to the top of the ratings twice by a better developed sitcom while the showrunner lags behind to argue with the executives

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 20 November 2013 22:38 (ten years ago) link

Thanks y'all I'll be here all week

Aldridge is on pace to challenge the record for most midrange jumpers attempted in a season, per NBA.com. He’s jacking 12.8 per game, putting him on pace for about 1,050 such shots. Michael Jordan has the highest recorded mark, launching 1,056 midrangers in 2002-03 with the Wiz.

huh.

Frank Isola ‏@FisolaNYDN 1m

For those keeping score; Amar'e & Iman had knee surgery over summer. Metta twice had his knee drained. Knicks say nothing. Incredible

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 23:31 (ten years ago) link

Heh, last night in the 1st half of the Knicks/Pistons game, iirc Melo had the following offensive possession sequence over three minutes, elegant in it's awfulness:

3pt fg hits side of the glass ->
Missed Layup ->
Charging ->
Dribbling TO ->
0-2 FT trip

Also maybe about time for a FT intervention with Andre Drummond now that he's hitting rock bottom. Cruel to watch someone play with so much intensity and then just melt down at the FT line. He shot 1-5 last night and his season FT % improved!

Stuff about Portland's defense and playing the odds to allow long jumpers while taking away the three is pretty interesting

hibbert is a good player but man he is so slow and robotic on offense he just had a path to the basket from five feet out but it took him so long to gather a defender showed up and he missed the shot

great defender tho

I haven't watched the Knicks since Tyson got injured. Paul George just willed himself to two buckets and then they gave up back to back transition threes by hill and Watson. I don't think defense is their forte

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Thursday, 21 November 2013 02:18 (ten years ago) link

they were playing remarkably well for how terrible defenders they are!
