September probably. Next batch should be 'Blue Sunshine', 'The Top' and 'Head on the Door'

The Emancipation of Baaderonixx (KERERU 4 LIFE!) (Fabfunk), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I think a good 85% of the rarities that would have been included with Concert (ie, "Curiosity") have already been released as portions of the first four rereleases.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:25 (eighteen years ago) link

No Japanese Whispers then? Or has that already been collected elsewhere?
re. Japanese Whispers - the singles were on Standing on the Beach and the B-Sides on the Join the Dots boxset.

The Emancipation of Baaderonixx (KERERU 4 LIFE!) (Fabfunk), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Actually, read upthread folks -- there's a post from someone who seems to be in the know that indicates the next general batch will be Top, Head on the Door, Kiss Me and Disintegration.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Blue Sunshine is being reissued but is not part of this reissue campaign by this label

Curiosity Redux Thread

mzui (mzui), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:12 (eighteen years ago) link

Thanks. I was searching for Cure not Curiosity.

one month passes...
So when's the new batch coming out?

Baaderonixx on a long black leash (Fabfunk), Saturday, 20 August 2005 20:54 (eighteen years ago) link

I keep obsessively checking Chain of Flowers and nothing! The source up above that seemed authoritative appears to have been proven false...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 August 2005 03:33 (eighteen years ago) link

I apologize if this was written already but this showed up regarding Three Imaginary Boys reissues on cure.com:

http://www.thecure.com/discography/cure_3ib_lyrics.pdf

Due to an unfortunate combination of circumstances the first copies of the 2 CD 'Three Imaginary Boys Deluxe Edition' were accompanied by a 16 page booklet missing the song words... All later deluxe editions will be accompanied by a 20 page booklet including the song words... For those of you wishing to get these missing words please click here to download a unique artwork PDF to print and keep... Robert

"All later deluxe editons will accompanied by a 20 page booklet including the song words" Does anybody have any info on this?

BeeOK (boo radley), Monday, 22 August 2005 07:12 (eighteen years ago) link

...does Bob really not know the word "lyrics"?

Telephonething (Telephonething), Monday, 22 August 2005 07:20 (eighteen years ago) link

Just a differing terminology. By all accounts, Colin Newman of Wire call his "texts"...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 22 August 2005 07:29 (eighteen years ago) link

True that. But the "missing words" bit does crack me up. PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION AS TO THE WHEREABOUTS OF THESE MISSING WORDS...

Telephonething (Telephonething), Monday, 22 August 2005 07:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I just want a copy with the words if there is a choice.

BeeOK (boo radley), Monday, 22 August 2005 08:09 (eighteen years ago) link

because I'm going to take it down tonight (and to further stimulate discussion): whither Primary (Red Mix)?

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 02:27 (eighteen years ago) link

er, arse?

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:46 (eighteen years ago) link

that's better

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:46 (eighteen years ago) link

can't get that excited about The Cure nowadays, but for a short while they got REALLY good - tunes like "The Upstairs Room", "BirdMadGirl" & "Throw Your Foot"... was listening to these recently and I reckon Robert Smith must have drawn some inspiration from Matt Johnson's "Uncertain Smile" EP.

Paul (scifisoul), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 03:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Chris Ott disagrees: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/c/cure/join-the-dots.shtml

Paul (scifisoul), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 03:16 (eighteen years ago) link

I guess it's hard to judge seeing as I'm pretty much the epitome of the audience Robert Smith is writing for but really, songs like "Home" and "Ocean" are just really, really wonderful. Also that remix of "Out Of This World" is outstanding.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 14:10 (eighteen years ago) link

I couldn't hold out. I saw Head On The Door used for $6 so I had to buy it. I wanted to hear Push!

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:21 (eighteen years ago) link

You have no idea how unhappy you've just made Dan. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:29 (eighteen years ago) link

WILL SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHY PEOPLE GO GAGA FOR THAT AWFUL AWFUL SONG??????????

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Because it is pretty.

I like the idea that someone comes up to Dan for his birthday, says to him, "As a gift, the master tapes of songs from two of your favorite bands!" and they turn out to be "Push" and "Mint Car" by the Cure and "Domino Dancing" and the Introspective mix of "I Want a Dog" by the Pet Shop Boys.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Ned, I would like for you to visualize fists of death raining upon your head like the Hammer of Thor.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:49 (eighteen years ago) link

Ow.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:02 (eighteen years ago) link

in high school i used to cue up "push" on my head on the door tape at night so the next morning i could hit the alarm clock to turn it off and then hit play on the boom box without having to open my eyes and with a minimum of movement.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:12 (eighteen years ago) link

Yes... but WHY???? There are nine other songs on that album, all of which are approximately 546,262,345,213,458,834.24562 times as enjoyable as "Push".

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:17 (eighteen years ago) link

Hey you forgot to carry the 3.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I mean, "The Blood"? Absolutely! "A Night Like This"? No question about it! "Screw"? An overlooked classic! "The Baby Screams"? Wake me up before you go-go!

"Push"? NO FUCKING WAY UH-UH.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:20 (eighteen years ago) link

Foolish Child.

I have retooled redux CD 4 as a 'Push through the ages' compilation with 18 different versions.

NO NO NO PUSH HIM AWAAAAAAAYYYY!

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Have I ever explained why I never liked this song?

I read the lyrics before I actually heard it, so I had a mental image in my mind of a minor key creepfest with harder-edged guitars and more snarling than yelping. Hearing the gossamer popfest, all-out chirpathon that is the actual song was the biggest Cure-related disappointment of my life; I was expecting "The Snakepit Pt 0".

Also the delivery of the lyrics is really, really embarrassing.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 18:31 (eighteen years ago) link

I knew Mzui would come through. ;-)

(Let me interrupt this thread to say that Unto Ashes' reworking of "The Drowning Man" on their new album Grave Blessings is absolutely brilliant and that Dan has to hear this thing ASAP.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 19:00 (eighteen years ago) link

*cough* *ysi* *cough*

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 19:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Patience. Also, e-mail might be better if I knew the best one to send it to, hint hint.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 19:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Whilst clearing out the other day I found a Pornography era rip off that I wrote/recorded to break in my new fangled digital recorder, It doesn't have vocals sadly, maybe Dan would be up to the job? This mail is fine btw Ned *hint*

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 19:43 (eighteen years ago) link

but the vocal delivery is great! another high school waking-up favorite was "under the milky way" but i only had the 7" of that so i actually had to get out of bed to put it on.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 19:47 (eighteen years ago) link

This mail is fine btw Ned *hint*

Good, good. Check yer mail later on.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 19:49 (eighteen years ago) link

CHECK.

The Popish Plot (dymaxia), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 21:15 (eighteen years ago) link

I believe I've had this debate before with Mr. deX! on Usenet, but the one song that has to go on HOTD is def. "Screw".

I'm pretty sure there will be tons of outtakes and live versions of "Push" on the re-issue, seeing how RS seems to enjoy that song. Hah...

The Head on the Door Bonus Disc -- The 'Push' Sessions

"Well we thought about putting in the demos for "The Baby Screams" and "Sinking" but nobody seems to like those songs much."

*noise of explosion from the Boston area*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 13:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Getting rid of "Screw" would make the Baby Jesus cry.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 14:13 (eighteen years ago) link

In more ways than one.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 14:14 (eighteen years ago) link

Just yesterday I received the three reissues (I substituted Bowie - Diamond Dogs double deluxe for the first album, as I can't believe they omitted songs from it) from BMG in a buy one, get three free deal. Total cost with shipping/handling, $46.86. I got $14 trade-in value for selling the old versions, so it cost me $8.21 per double set, not bad.

Fastnbulbous, Wednesday, 31 August 2005 21:53 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't believe it either!

which one are you counting as the first of "three", Three Imaginary Boys or Seventeen Seconds? Nothing's been omitted from any of the albums, but the failure to stick Killing An Arab on the bonus dsc for TIB is more than a little baffling.

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:24 (eighteen years ago) link

TIB != BDC, FNB.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:32 (eighteen years ago) link

The Remastered Pornography has blown my mind. Didn’t get any of these until June/July of this year at Amoeba for cheep.
