is he cooked? bkn looks all kinds of awful.

shiny trippy people holding bandz (m bison), Saturday, 23 November 2013 16:40 (ten years ago) link

that is the one team that surprises me the most so far. knicks being terrible not news. that bkn core should be enough to win games and be competitive. #firekidd

shiny trippy people holding bandz (m bison), Saturday, 23 November 2013 16:41 (ten years ago) link

i think it's too early to compare rose to any of those guys just yet. roy and oden both had, like, pre-existing degenerative conditions.

grant hill might not be a terrible comparison actually. but we'll have to see what happens. two ACL tears isn't a death knell tho he almost certainly wouldn't be the same player.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 23 November 2013 16:41 (ten years ago) link

i can't remember who i picked to make the finals in the predix thread but it might have been BK????????

i'm shocked by this even considering the injuries. i wonder how much of it is j kidd. i mean they beat the heat at home while he was still on DUI suspension.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 23 November 2013 16:43 (ten years ago) link

you took the bulls iirc, lmao

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Saturday, 23 November 2013 16:46 (ten years ago) link

i haven't seen enough of brooklyn to say whether the coach is a big part of the problem (though logically that makes sense) but i do wonder to what extent pierce and kg are feeling unmoored and mentally fucked up--two guys who had thrived on stability coming into a very weird situation, and no player from the likes of williams, johnson, lopez wld seem to have the capability to rally them.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 23 November 2013 16:59 (ten years ago) link

and then they look at their coach and say something to the effect of last time we saw you, you were shooting .176 against us in the playoffs.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:02 (ten years ago) link

yeah it seems like a pretty toxic situation. the idea of KG & PP not being invested seems possible if not likely... brook/joe johnson/d will is not exactly the most inspiring trio

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:23 (ten years ago) link

KG and PP both seem like the kind of veterans who could emotionally detach themselves from a situation like the Nets. They won't dog it, but they won't fully commit either.

Aimless, Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:37 (ten years ago) link

theyve had injuries too fwiw, deron tore it up the 2nd half of last year but so far he does not look at all the same

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:38 (ten years ago) link

yeah but they're pretty deep. a team with joe johnson, KG, PP etc shouldn't be playing like this UNLESS the latter two are totally cooked in which case the problems run much deeper

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:42 (ten years ago) link

i could def see this team still clicking but their ceiling in my eyes has for sure been lowered bigtim

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:43 (ten years ago) link

also coaching seems like itd be pretty key as far as figuring out how to use guys on their last legs picking their spots etc

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:44 (ten years ago) link

its seeems like if deron and brook were clicking you could use pierce/johnson/garnett as shooters and they shld be able to do that but idk

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:47 (ten years ago) link

rather than floor spacing they seem to be spending a lot of time taking turns posting up which is just nagl

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:48 (ten years ago) link

anyway they shd get karl and everyone can have fun and they can lose in the 2nd round to miami in 5 with four of the games toss ups going into the last 5 mins

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:49 (ten years ago) link

Was just thinking how I was sad AK opted out of his TWolves deal but it was probably the best thing that happened to us, wouldn't have been able to sign Brewer or KMart otherwise

lorde willin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:52 (ten years ago) link

he shd prob take three years off to rehab this time

― lag∞n, Saturday, November 23, 2013 10:26 AM

four to be safe

am0n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 17:54 (ten years ago) link

those guys + ak47 wouldve been incredibly sweet if imaginary xp

Scouts say that J Kidd does literally nothing, his assistants call plays on both offense and defense

I mean that's fine maybe you can be a rally kind of guy like Doc but J Kidd is not Doc

Fire Kidd and put in Frank

乒乓, Saturday, 23 November 2013 18:32 (ten years ago) link

fire kidd hire karl

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 18:33 (ten years ago) link

AND doc calls offensive plays and is known for being super good at it ffs

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 18:34 (ten years ago) link

yeah there are def teams with de facto offensive or defensive coordinators but that's bcuz the head coach is particularly strong in one of those areas

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 23 November 2013 18:40 (ten years ago) link

Haha I didn't say that Doc wasn't good at calling offensive plays just pointing out another quality Doc was known for

乒乓, Saturday, 23 November 2013 18:41 (ten years ago) link

dont subtweet doc itt

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 18:42 (ten years ago) link

with Kidd tho I doubt there was an expectation that he would be diagramming plays and stuff. but what you definitely need is a philosophy on both sides that shapes your identity as a team.

all the good teams have this. everything funnels down from that on both sides. the nets are just totally disorganized on both sides. it's beyond simply the plays.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 23 November 2013 18:44 (ten years ago) link

you could say it manifests itself in the plays

lag∞n, Saturday, 23 November 2013 18:48 (ten years ago) link

yeah. i mean they had 7 assists on 31 made shots last night. that's a utter lack of system, a total ground up problem. just guys out there winging it on every possession.

k3vin k., Saturday, 23 November 2013 22:33 (ten years ago) link

forgive me if this is a stupid question: right now toronto (0.462) are above chicago (0.545) in the standings. why is this? is there something else used to rank teams other than pct? this is something i've noticed a few times in the past.

fit and working again, Saturday, 23 November 2013 22:36 (ten years ago) link

Meniscus ain't a death sentence. Depends on the severity I guess tho

I've done it (partial tear), kinda weird feeling. Kept playing after and played on it for another 6 months before surgery. Would get random shots of pain just sitting at my desk and shifting positions.

kevin is correct

from what i hear rose tore the medial meniscus, which from what i understand is a less severe injury than if he'd torn the lateral meniscus. not sure how long it would take him to recover, they'd probably treat him with kid gloves once again. was this the same injury as westbrook?
