idk ginobili seemed to have a pretty good career focusing on high value shots

lag∞n, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:17 (ten years ago) link

yeah that is just nonsense dude

k3vin k., Monday, 25 November 2013 02:18 (ten years ago) link

and yeah a handful of 2s in the_west are having nice starts but none of those guys are superstar caliber

k3vin k., Monday, 25 November 2013 02:19 (ten years ago) link

lol wtf is james harden ever going to do in the post

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:23 (ten years ago) link

Hardly a fair comparison seeing as Ginobli has played in a slick ball moving outfit his entire career and had the benefit of playing with 2 future hall of famers throughout their prime. Besides the point anyway because Ginobli would not work as a primary scorer in the post season.

And how exactly is it nonsense? Have we not seen how Harden has struggled in the offs?

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:25 (ten years ago) link

he had a really bad finals but has been good in the post eason otherwise iirc

lag∞n, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:30 (ten years ago) link

eh he had a rough series last year too

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:32 (ten years ago) link

his career reg season and postseason stats are essentially the same

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:34 (ten years ago) link

Except he becomes much less efficient

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:35 (ten years ago) link

which is a completely common thing in the playoffs

lag∞n, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:36 (ten years ago) link

because the bad teams arent there

lag∞n, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:36 (ten years ago) link

according to what xxp

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:36 (ten years ago) link

~21ppg in 05 playoffs, spurs won the title, and manu is obvs one of the absolute best players of his generation ffs god

lag∞n, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:38 (ten years ago) link

And his game suffers more than most. Its no secret that success in the offs is achieved through halfcourt play and he doesn't have that in his game.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:42 (ten years ago) link

^^^^ feel like i shd ban this tsroboto joker. manu from 03-06 was an all star and one of the craftiest motherfuckers on earth, no one could fuck with him. he carried argentina to gold and would absolutely have been a no 1 on a mediocre team

shiny trippy people holding bandz (m bison), Monday, 25 November 2013 02:43 (ten years ago) link

Not disputing that, don't know where you got the idea that I was but Tim Duncan was the primary scorer so not sure what you're getting at.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:43 (ten years ago) link

Whoa whoa whoa slow down buddy, tsrobodo you're saying some crazy things

First, who calls the playoffs the 'offs'

乒乓, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:43 (ten years ago) link

that manu was tha catalyst to that 05 team and FUCKING ARGENTINA DUDE

shiny trippy people holding bandz (m bison), Monday, 25 November 2013 02:45 (ten years ago) link

yes, james harden, ranked 5th in points per game last season and so far this season, cannot play halfcourt basketball.

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:45 (ten years ago) link

What am I saying that contradicts that?

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:46 (ten years ago) link

Well he can't. The rockets were a running team last year he got a ton of his points in transition.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:47 (ten years ago) link

i'm just waiting for you to provide any piece of evidence that he's a markedly different player in the playoffs

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:47 (ten years ago) link

also provide evidence for that statement, pls

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:47 (ten years ago) link

ginoboli will prob end up in the HOF himself.

that's my contribution to this discussion.

Clay, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:48 (ten years ago) link

He shot 39% last year having shot 44% for the season.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:51 (ten years ago) link

Not saying he's a different player. He does the same things but the drop in efficiency is a problem.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:54 (ten years ago) link

and in his career it's like 43% vs. 42%, but that six-game sample in his first series as a team's #1 option is extremely meaningful i'm sure

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:55 (ten years ago) link

Eh lebron shot 56 on the season and 49 in the "'"'offs'"'" last year

Clear to me that Bron desperately needs to develop a half court + post game

乒乓, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:55 (ten years ago) link

Lebrons efficiency already far outstrips his team and we know he watches his stats in the regular season. He can shoot high volume at 49% and not drag his team down.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:58 (ten years ago) link

i want to know who, at 6'5 and 220, james harden is going to post up

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:58 (ten years ago) link

Look, the idea his for the vast majority of players a shot between 3 ft and the arc is a higher % shot than a 3. Harden has such a terrible midrange game that it isn't. No team wants to live by the 3 in the playoffs because once you go cold there ain't much else you can do except drive and hope you get calls and the refs tend to swallow their whistles in the playoffs.

I just don't see Harden being successful as a primary scorer in the playoffs.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:01 (ten years ago) link

I dunno probably the same people Kobe does with his turnaround J.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:03 (ten years ago) link

rockets average pace for the 2013 regular season = 96.1
average pace for their 6 games in the playoffs last year = 94.4, so basically no difference. harden had his best game in a game with 92 possessions

k3vin k., Monday, 25 November 2013 03:04 (ten years ago) link

but but that goes against some anecdotal nonsense that someone said on the espn pregame show

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:06 (ten years ago) link

Look, the idea his for the vast majority of players a shot between 3 ft and the arc is a higher % shot than a 3.

you realize that threes are worth more, right. the fuck is this guy?

k3vin k., Monday, 25 November 2013 03:06 (ten years ago) link

That's because they were facing a team that could run and do it better.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:07 (ten years ago) link

worth more, but harder to get. especially in the playoffs where there's better 3 pt defense.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:09 (ten years ago) link

Tsrobodo is basically correct that teams stop shooting 3s in the playoffs. In fact I can't recall ever seeing a team shoot a 3 in the playoffs in the last 10 years

乒乓, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:09 (ten years ago) link

tsrobodo more like true shooting pct (ts%)roboto

shiny trippy people holding bandz (m bison), Monday, 25 November 2013 03:10 (ten years ago) link

Domo arigato tsrobodo

乒乓, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:11 (ten years ago) link

The part where I say teams stop shooting 3's?

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:11 (ten years ago) link

worth more, but harder to get. especially in the playoffs where there's better 3 pt defense.

― tsrobodo, Sunday, November 24, 2013 10:09 PM (2 minutes ago)

three pointers are higher value shots than midrange jumpers, this is accepted by virtually everyone who has any idea what they're talking about. i'm not going to big bird basketball 101 to you anymore

k3vin k., Monday, 25 November 2013 03:14 (ten years ago) link

ok moving beyond this ridiculous argument, this sounds cool:

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:17 (ten years ago) link

Why do you keep disputing things that I haven't said. Three point shots are higher value but they're harder to create space for . Players that can isolate are useful in the post season for that very reason.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:17 (ten years ago) link

i guess probably because it's as valid as you saying a bunch of received-wisdom types things that you are not backing up with evidence

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:19 (ten years ago) link

Just saying what I think based on what I've seen, what do you expect me to pull stat sheets out of my ass? If I'm wrong, tell me why. No point getting heated and dismissive cause some dude you don't know said some shit you don't agree with.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:22 (ten years ago) link

tbf people have told you why and provided you with stats

lag∞n, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:24 (ten years ago) link

Most of which (can't be sure seeing as, ya'll love to pile on) I tried to rebut.

tsrobodo, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:26 (ten years ago) link

if you're going to make a claim that is contrary to most folks' understanding of the nba or of a particular player, then yes it would be nice if you came with some stats. they're all over the place, it's not really much to ask.

call all destroyer, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:26 (ten years ago) link
