lakers were dumb to do this move, p sure fans in LA wd get over any affront to kobe once they started winning again

to BRR! is humane (m bison), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:19 (ten years ago) link

like kobe get that paper dude, but lakers are like....punting here

to BRR! is humane (m bison), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:20 (ten years ago) link

lakers have missed the playoffs like twice in the last 25 years, their fans are soo spoiled, the meltdown shd be fun

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:21 (ten years ago) link

lakers despite their ability to attract any and all free agents are cooked im guessing, their management is just too incompetent now

i agree w/ this 100%

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:22 (ten years ago) link

i think it will be interesting to see if the clippers can capitalize on this longterm

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:22 (ten years ago) link

id like to see kobe booed at home before this is all over

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:23 (ten years ago) link

crazy both the nbas signature franchises are being run by idiot heirs

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:25 (ten years ago) link

#america and all

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:26 (ten years ago) link

I dunno. The Lakers over invested in their hall of famer on a short term contract. Not in Dolan's league.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:27 (ten years ago) link

theres more track record than that to go on

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:28 (ten years ago) link

On the other hand Dolan's dad has as many titles as JD has

polyphonic, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:30 (ten years ago) link

Knicks have won two titles in their history and yet are Americas highest grossing and most valuable franchise

Meanwhile the celtics were on life support in the mid 00s until they pulled off the big three coup

乒乓, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:30 (ten years ago) link

for instance if you look at last years team past their top four it was very telling at how bad theyve been at filling out their roster, they still had the old laker magic as far as attracting stars but signing the right role players or drafting useful players late in the draft, forget about it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:30 (ten years ago) link

the knicks are just valuable because theyre in americas largest wealthiest city its not that hard to figure out

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:31 (ten years ago) link

Yes that's exactly my point. Lakers too

乒乓, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:31 (ten years ago) link

jd started managing the team soon after cablevision bought it iirc fyi

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:33 (ten years ago) link

i thought yr point was that the lakers omg need kobe to rake in the $$$

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:35 (ten years ago) link

I'm just saying the lakers operate in the stratosphere where the only other team operating is the Knicks. They have the financial flexibility and cushion to throw good money after bad. If they think they can make some big FA signings even w Kobe's contract on the books they will. They're not the Thunder

乒乓, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:35 (ten years ago) link

they will not make a big free agent signing with kobe on the books cause no major free agent wants to play on a team thats not going to win and filling one of yr max slots w a non max player is a sure way not to win, theyll prob sign a second tier free agent to a huge contract and suck lol

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:37 (ten years ago) link

come join our tenth place team youre just what we need to put us over the top kevin love

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:38 (ten years ago) link

James harden come play for us

乒乓, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:40 (ten years ago) link

o man harden on this lakers team would be pretty perfect

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:41 (ten years ago) link

Which makes him unlike buss sr who guided his team to many many titles, yes

polyphonic, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:42 (ten years ago) link

The real test is to see if the lakers can do the equivalent of agreeing to eddy curry and Jerome James contracts and still maintain their position as second most valuable franchise in the country

乒乓, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:44 (ten years ago) link

not sure what yr point is here poly

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:44 (ten years ago) link

I don't think there's anything instructive about comparing Buss Jr. and Dolan Jr. They're heirs to fortunes, that's about it.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:46 (ten years ago) link

theyre incompetent heirs to fortunes, guys who didnt earn their jobs and suck at them, as jordan said #america

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:48 (ten years ago) link

i believe the zach lowe column points out that the lakers are going to have to do some serious work to add even one max contract next summer which will leave them with a max guy, an undeserving max guy, and a team of probably worse scrubs than their current team of scrubs.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:49 (ten years ago) link

yup

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:50 (ten years ago) link

theyll prob just resign pau tho

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:50 (ten years ago) link

2 undeserving max guys if they get melo

k3vin k., Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:51 (ten years ago) link

it would be super funny if melo went from ny to la

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:52 (ten years ago) link

i'm telling you they're banking on someone forcing a trade there

it's always happened!

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:54 (ten years ago) link

So a sign and trade w gasol or Nash?

乒乓, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:55 (ten years ago) link

I look at the Lakers and I see a team that hasn't developed young talent since Jerry West left. That's not Buss Jr.'s fault. At some point he has to cut the cord on Kupchak, a bad GM who has also won a few titles. It's not an enviable position. To call Buss Jr. incompetent because ... of the Nash trade? What?

polyphonic, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:55 (ten years ago) link

I have no idea why I'm defending this guy because i could not give a fuck but it doesn't make sense to me.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:56 (ten years ago) link

i've never heard anyone in the media say a single positive thing about lil buss

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:56 (ten years ago) link

it seems like anyone with sources in the lakers thinks he's basically incompetent

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:57 (ten years ago) link

giving mike d'antoni a three year contract?

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:57 (ten years ago) link

yeah he just overpaid kobe and set the lakers back two years too

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:57 (ten years ago) link

kupchak is bad too tho

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:58 (ten years ago) link

not developing young players when you're constantly picking outside of the lottery is a pretty minor issue imo

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 16:58 (ten years ago) link

its a pretty essential skill for winning in todays nba imho

lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 17:02 (ten years ago) link

giving mike d'antoni a three year contract?

The length of the coach's deal doesn't matter. He rolled the dice on an available veteran coach and struck out. He's been better than Mike Brown or Rudy Tomjanovich or Magic Johnson.

there are franchises (the lakers are one of them) that can survive without really "developing" young talent imo

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 17:04 (ten years ago) link

but they did develop kobe so...
