lag∞n, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 23:41 (ten years ago) link

FTR that's primarily the reason for the comparison, all these florid Britishisms in the nodes

But I love ya man, hope we can wriggle together one day

I mean eff Rtc marching orders it's less abt what he likes although he does have one of ilx's stronger hit/miss ratios (like Andy k, Tim f, a few others)

More that when he agrees w you that something is some emperors new clothes shit he's v v good at tearing it to pieces w a v gentle pen stroke.

That said I haven't listened to blood orange beyond the single, this is more a general distrust of the dev hynes aesthetic

That article is terrible. Hynes' girlfriend's mother setting up a donation page after a devastating fire is not "crowdfunding". Basically a very poorly timed excuse to hate on Zosia Mamet.

vagenda plumbing new depths there, which i didn't think was even possible for them

fyi they used kickstarter to fund their dim-witted, terrible blog

also, literally using the "it was just a bit of fun" defence rn (with a side helping of "mummy, twitter's being mean")

despot's verse is actually pretty fire though

the grime one i can't fuck with though

I like the Despot track it always just takes me by surprise trying to figure out what I cued up after Blood Orange.

The Reverend, Saturday, 13 September 2014 01:06 (nine years ago) link

The only album I have heard from them/him? is Cupid Deluxe and I love it, in the same vein as Solange and that Drake song that sounds like a song. Is the new or the previous album good?

Moka, Saturday, 13 September 2014 03:23 (nine years ago) link

Just investigated and you all already knew this but Blood Orange produced Solange's Losing You which also sounds like the inspiration to Hold On We're Going Home so it seems like he is the reason I like those two.

Moka, Saturday, 13 September 2014 03:39 (nine years ago) link

i used to be all "he is surely the reason i like both 'losing you' and 'everything is embarrassing'" but his own records are not v compelling at all, he is not a very convincing performer despite the super obvious influences he wears on his sleeve

like srsly imagine how bad "everything is embarrasing" could easily have been had he recorded it himself: https://soundcloud.com/user43036935/dev-hynes-everything-is-embarrassing-demo

Leaked demo of a track apparently sent to Britney for "Britney Jean". Kinda chillwavey. I like it. https://soundcloud.com/user43036935/dev-hynes-britney-demo-1-no
