idk asik has a pretty valuable elite skill too

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:37 (ten years ago) link

but he's a zero on offense and even if he were anderson's equal overall, which he ain't, why would you break up anderson-davis which is looking like they're going to start dominating the league any time now

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:38 (ten years ago) link

i wouldnt break them up cause theyre a good fit, but andersen is pretty one dimensional too, those guys are one dimensional at maybe the two most acceptable things to be one dimensional at shooting and interior D

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:40 (ten years ago) link

anderson also rebounds like a monster

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:41 (ten years ago) link

a monster what lol burn

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:42 (ten years ago) link

asik is a good rebounder

eh not really man

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:43 (ten years ago) link

his rebounding numbers are down a little this year but i'll bet they'll...rebound, even still his offensive boards, the more important ones, haven't dipped nearly as much

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:44 (ten years ago) link

his career TRB% is 110th among active players, let's just keep things in perspective a lil'

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:48 (ten years ago) link

he's got a nice 9-0-0-0-0 going tonight btw

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:48 (ten years ago) link

I thought ryanderson was just shooting the lights out bc Bargnani was pretending to guard him last night and it was the first time I've seen him play this year but he has indeed been killing it

Whatever the merits of Asik the idea that teams should be falling all over themselves to package up their first or second best players so Dwight can have a shot at the western finals is hilarious

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:53 (ten years ago) link

Holy shit that Wes Matthews shot chart

The two weak areas he has only taken five and three shots in respectively

Wtf is going on there in pdx

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:54 (ten years ago) link

how good people can shoot now compared with like ten years ago is really crazy

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:56 (ten years ago) link

So what you're all saying is this guy Anderson is almost as good as Klay Thompson

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:57 (ten years ago) link

my theory is its because they came of age w the college three point line on every court tempting them xp

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:57 (ten years ago) link

yeah it's funny when people say players can't shoot like they used to because that's obviously false

i was thinking the other day how it's kind of difficult to compare players across eras because players these days are just so much more efficient, like even after the 3 pointer was introduced no one really used it for a while

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 December 2013 01:59 (ten years ago) link

Yeah could be that once stats dudes realized the true value of the 3 they started looking for guys who could really bomb it from deep and it's now okay to be purely a 3 specialist

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:00 (ten years ago) link

the nba now is basically the imaginary past purists were pining for all those years, great shooting, tons of ball movement, high intensisty defense, no one with cornrows

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:01 (ten years ago) link

the other day i was wondering what kinda role allen iverson would have in today's league if he came into it recently, like would he still be AI or what

Clay, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:02 (ten years ago) link

Hah the stats dudes told udonis to stop it with the cornrows. Makes sense

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:02 (ten years ago) link

thing is its not just three point specialists that shoot the three well all sorts of guys can shoot it good to great now

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:03 (ten years ago) link

~100 players last season with 35+ 3pt %

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:04 (ten years ago) link

Has the average 3p% increased or been increasing in recent years. Come on stat heads

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:04 (ten years ago) link

im sure it has along w a huge increase in number of shots taken

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:05 (ten years ago) link

in 82-83 mike dunleavy sr led the league in 3 point percentage making 67 of 194 for 35%

Clay, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:06 (ten years ago) link

--Introduction of Spaulding infusion basketball means that kids on the playground never shot with a flat ball, therefore forcing them to become better shooters

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:06 (ten years ago) link

last year there were 30 qualified players who shot 40% or better, ten years earlier there were 12

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:09 (ten years ago) link

Damn

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:11 (ten years ago) link

Somebody's gonna shoot better than 50% from three through a whole season in the next 5 years

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:12 (ten years ago) link

maybe this year

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:12 (ten years ago) link

the league average 3P% has plateaued at about 36% for about 15 years (but it was really bad in the 80s and early 90s, like a league full of andre millers bad), but the 3 point rate is what's really shot up recently, more than a quarter of all field goal attempts are 3s now

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:14 (ten years ago) link

Actually basketball ref says that's been done. But maybe by someone with 200+ makes?

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:15 (ten years ago) link

― 乒乓, Monday, December 2, 2013 9:12 PM (2 minutes ago)

korver shot like 57% a couple years ago iirc

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:15 (ten years ago) link

Yeah and if course there's Steve Kerr. Those were all double digit makes tho. Wonder what the highest % by someone with 200+ makes is

yeah i guess the improvement in shooting ability has caused harder shots to be taken keeping the average flat, players especially steph curry take shots that no one wouldve dreamed of not that long ago

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:18 (ten years ago) link

Steve Kerr did it a few times, including once w/> 200 attempts

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:19 (ten years ago) link

also more players have entered the union of 3pt shooters xp self

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:19 (ten years ago) link

Forgot about the god Jason kapono

Not at my computer so can someone run the search for 200+ makes

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:21 (ten years ago) link

also more players have entered the union of 3pt shooters xp self

Yeah the emphasis on 3s means a lot of mediocre shooters have been pushed out to the line too I bet

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:22 (ten years ago) link

no one fits that criteria u can plainly see by the last result! xp

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:22 (ten years ago) link

Oh I know that nobody w 200+ has shot more than 50%. I'm wondering what the highest % is.

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:24 (ten years ago) link

anderson just drilled a wide open 3 from the corner and is 4/5 from 3 tonight

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:26 (ten years ago) link

glenn rice 47% http://bkref.com/tiny/ITIay

also he boned palin

xp

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:27 (ten years ago) link

Steph is gonna do it man. I feel it

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:27 (ten years ago) link

Lmao good ref

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:28 (ten years ago) link

Reggie only on that list one time. Was Reggie overrated? Feel like his reputation as a 'clutch' 3 shooter papers over his deficiencies as a 3 shooter, maybe

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:29 (ten years ago) link

Lmao employee #8 holding it down in that last spot at 34%

乒乓, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 02:31 (ten years ago) link

reggis is def overrated but he was a v good scorer for a v long time, got to the line a bunch for someone who was mostly a jump shooter was his secret weapon, kinda a one dimensional player tho
