i was thinking the other day how it's kind of difficult to compare players across eras because players these days are just so much more efficient, like even after the 3 pointer was introduced no one really used it for a while

Yeah could be that once stats dudes realized the true value of the 3 they started looking for guys who could really bomb it from deep and it's now okay to be purely a 3 specialist

the nba now is basically the imaginary past purists were pining for all those years, great shooting, tons of ball movement, high intensisty defense, no one with cornrows

the league average 3P% has plateaued at about 36% for about 15 years (but it was really bad in the 80s and early 90s, like a league full of andre millers bad), but the 3 point rate is what's really shot up recently, more than a quarter of all field goal attempts are 3s now

yeah i guess the improvement in shooting ability has caused harder shots to be taken keeping the average flat, players especially steph curry take shots that no one wouldve dreamed of not that long ago

reggis is def overrated but he was a v good scorer for a v long time, got to the line a bunch for someone who was mostly a jump shooter was his secret weapon, kinda a one dimensional player tho

reggie is a borderline HOFer who got in because pretty much everyone gets in who was any good for a period of time, but he was never a dominant player. made the all-nba third team three times and made 5 all-star teams. joe johnson made 6 all star teams
