It pleases me to note that the nets gave the hawks the right to swap picks in the joe Johnson trade for the next 2 years.

Heez, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 15:56 (ten years ago) link

as it should!

Al He Miola (Spottie), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 16:05 (ten years ago) link

kinda fucks things up for the celtics, tho prob the hawks and nets will finish the season w similar records

lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 16:15 (ten years ago) link

yeah. there's a chance though that the nets finish in the lottery and/or the hawks choose to blow things up and tank.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 16:18 (ten years ago) link

but they could end up as like the 4 and 6 seeds which would suck for the celts

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 16:18 (ten years ago) link

yeah if i had to guess id have both teams making the playoffs

lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 16:19 (ten years ago) link

I def. remember when you said he was a "terrible rebounder" and couldn't defend the statement at all.

btw what i said was that zach lowe had spoke extensively of how javale's teams rebound worse than other teams when he is on the floor

guys remember when javale would've been an all star if only the internet had stopped making fun of him for doing funny things on the court

I remember the few weeks where Hibbert was taking outside contract offers and it looked like Pacers would have to spend max money on him. I thought, "Well, if we're gonna max out on someone, maybe it'd be interesting to spend it on Javale, someone who could develop into a total monster."

Think it's pretty obvious that if he were to make some kind of leap from potential star -> star, it should've happened over the last few seasons. Didn't help that his previous coach didn't really want him on the floor, but still.

Argh I never understand those 100% probabilities-- it can't be 100% yet!

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 17:44 (ten years ago) link

id like to see nola in there somewhere but yeah thats a p sweet ass lineup xp

i think its saying that every team thats done that before has made the playoffs xp

lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 17:45 (ten years ago) link

Hahaha sad Milwaukee-- Prof. Hollinger sez in the best possible bball world, they'll still have a losing record this year. Hollinger probabilities not giving enough weight to Gianntula blowing up by the end of the season.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 17:48 (ten years ago) link

lol love that the Frank/Kidd dissolution happened after Kidd's first game on the bench ... because he'd been suspended for the first two games of the season already. At least Kidd is getting the power-hungry, hot-headed managerial aspect of coaching locked down so early.

Mario Chalmers said players 6 through 15 on the Heat’s roster would “definitely” make the playoffs and finish somewhere between the No. 3 and No. 6 seed.

this is 100% true and arguably the greatest indictment yet of the 2013 eastern conference

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 17:55 (ten years ago) link

lol they would win zero games be srs

lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 17:56 (ten years ago) link

Team with Beas as #1 option could take East by storm, smh.

i think they run like 1000 simulations of the rest of the season or something

k3vin k., Wednesday, 4 December 2013 19:21 (ten years ago) link

xp Actually, he's not very open at all. the really 'open' teammate is up top there for an open three.

Aimless, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 19:23 (ten years ago) link

Your search - "gianntula" - did not match any documents.

MAJOR props to compupost if he just coined this

k3vin k., Wednesday, 4 December 2013 19:23 (ten years ago) link

the wadeless heat just lost to the pistons, that team would suck without its top 3

i mean 4-15 would be arguable, but 6-15? (who are the 4th and 5th best players on the heat? chalmers and...birdman?)

k3vin k., Wednesday, 4 December 2013 19:25 (ten years ago) link

that lowe column was a nadir for him btw

k3vin k., Wednesday, 4 December 2013 19:26 (ten years ago) link

it's okay, you and matt are still welcome on my side of the 2011 nba draft debate. i've been reserving some seats.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 19:33 (ten years ago) link

Nic Batum feelin the 2.0 vibes :0

“I remember one guy I tried to guard so much, make him work and he had 30 on me and that was T-Mac. I felt like I did everything I wanted to do on defense and T-Mac scored anyway. Paul George did that tonight. He did a great job. I tried to be all over him, tried to stop him and make him work. He made some tough shots. You have to give him credit. He’s an MVP player.”

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 19:50 (ten years ago) link

Miami's scrub starters would be Haslem (Oden?) / Birdman / Ray Allen / Beas / Cole, which is a shitty starting line-up in 2013 but could still totally pull out some games against bottom-feeding teams.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 19:56 (ten years ago) link

naw i dont think they could win a game

lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 19:57 (ten years ago) link

yeah i'm with joe

k3vin k., Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:03 (ten years ago) link

Not sure any of those guys could play beyond 20-25 minutes. Maybe Cole.

Who has the best bench in the nba

polyphonic, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:06 (ten years ago) link

what would that team's bench even look like xp

I was still sending fractions of bitcoin into sheep (Clay), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:08 (ten years ago) link

Clips or Nugz maybe?

Al He Miola (Spottie), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:09 (ten years ago) link

spurs prob

lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:10 (ten years ago) link

Bah, you could totally get away w/ 1 + 2 options of Beas and Allen if they're volume shooting and both hitting shots. Not really sure how they'd look defensively, but Haslem/Joel have held it together before. They'd also have to get quality minutes from James Jones, Lewis, and Mason Jr., which is less likely.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:12 (ten years ago) link

some teams cheat by not starting their best players hint okc perkins

lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:12 (ten years ago) link

Clips and Rockets both have cool benches; Nets' bench is probably the best in theory, but obviously not really playing out too well so far.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:14 (ten years ago) link

JET, Kirilenko, Evans, Blatche and I guess Mirza.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:15 (ten years ago) link

Or maybe Nuggs since it seems like their 2nd team kinda pulls out some games for them.

Call me Shitmael (CompuPost), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:18 (ten years ago) link

speaking of benches:

Throughout the late 1990s and most of the aughts, the players that started the game averaged around 32 minutes per game. In the last few years though, that has decreased to 30. Two minutes a game might not seem like much, but over the course of a full season that’s 164 fewer minutes per starter.

http://thedissnba.com/2013/12/03/why-starting-a-game-no-longer-matters/

Not a lot else of value in that column but I found the drop in starters' minutes pretty interesting

I was still sending fractions of bitcoin into sheep (Clay), Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:31 (ten years ago) link

If we haven't already, we should all congrat Rudy Gay for having his first non-sub-50% fg shooting night

yeah ive heard its cause the flood the strong side defensive style is so tiring

lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 20:50 (ten years ago) link

also cuz coaches are prob smarter & maybe warrior mentality is eroding

also if the base of basketball players collectively gets more skilled over time that should mean minutes can be diverted to the bench
