have you heard "careless" cause it's really good
― the late great, Thursday, 5 December 2013 06:53 (ten years ago) link
Careless is sort of a subdued version of Jaded, isn't it? Like a Jaded light or something.

god this lana del rey remix has just blown the track open for me
I'M FEELING ELECTRIC TONIGHT
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 13:24 (ten years ago) link
Yeah how good is it!
It was that track that made me feel like these guys have life beyond an inspired one-off.
There's a dance remix of "Summertime Sadness" that plays on the radio all the time here, and I keep thinking it has none of the fleet-footed lift of this version.

The one that was a huge hit I presume? So weird, that. I actually like it in an odd way but this is certainly how it shouldve been
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 17:59 (ten years ago) link
Haha was it a huge hit? I wouldn't even know anymore. It seemed alright but very trudging and enervated compared to this.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 20:21 (ten years ago) link
i love this song so much

Really, really want these guys to just whack out an album now without thinking too hard about it because they're in in that magical zone where everything is golden.

Their new EP is so good.

"Back & Forth" should be as big as "Jaded".

Fixed.

i wish "jaded" had been big in any sense outside ilm!
― lex pretend, Friday, 11 April 2014 15:20 (ten years ago) link
It's a bit more successful than their other songs, so I'm assuming it got at least a bit of traction outside of ILX.
― Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Friday, 11 April 2014 19:42 (ten years ago) link
Given the current climate I'm really surprised they don't get more 1xtra love.

i will say that i was a little surprised by how on the nose this was a tim pick when he sent it to me. has there been perhaps a little holding pattern as we've crested thirty?? lol

lol i've been overdosing on these guys this morning and the deeper you sink into their sets interviews etc the deeper the conviction that these guys really and truly are the official ilx golden girls retirement home resident djs. it's actually kinda ridiculous!!
like it's not even "club djs play the hits, big deal" but there's just so many personal innate fave fruity fluoro melodijams that we've <3'd en passant on threads/vibes they've never quite been directly relevant to or been key drivers of that they have featured and foregrounded. they're like the single eureka reference point that brings together the pop moodboard all around u, it's great, really addictive
the singular x factor that they have i think is the tracky, sinuous, serpentine groove they weave tend to weave into this stuff, much more of an in-the-pocket lithe n lissom techno funk vibe than their chunkier peers

This is a big step up on their last EP but Gyptian is not really bringing his a-game here. I suppose they're getting an arsenal of festival jams together and I totally get why they're doing it but I miss the fizz and exuberance of the first few tunes.
