Any luck with a job? this heat and the job search are getting me down.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 00:12 (ten years ago) link

Yeah Ive been hearing that a lot from even my most skilled mates in the IT arena, when companies or roles go under, theyve been suprised to find the usual similar roles just arent out there.

Which makes me reluctant to ask for a payrise even though its been six fucking years and ive not had one.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 00:13 (ten years ago) link

Having manufacturing plastered all over your CV is not great either. Holden and ford pretty much dead and Alcoa looking on its uppers the only jobs are in food and pharma. No food experience and I don't think I want to work in secondary chicken processing any way. Add to that that Abbot fucked renewable energy just as I arrived...

What are good temp agencies for office grunt work? It's getting to that stage.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 00:20 (ten years ago) link

What about somewhere like CSIRO, is that in your area of expertise?

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 00:22 (ten years ago) link

Abbott government are more into cuts than expansion at CSIRO. Universities are hiring and I'm currently procrastinating putting the cherry on top of a job application for Monash that looks interesting and in my range of competences even if it would be a bit of a pay cut.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 00:25 (ten years ago) link

Of course it's a significant pay rise from being unemployed so shouldn't grumble really

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 00:27 (ten years ago) link

meeting w/ the recruiter yesterday was for something that is practically dream job material - trying not to get too excited but she's going to put me forward for it.

had a couple interviews either side of xmas - one i basically fucked up the interview through nerves, the other they wanted someone with more mentoring/coaching experience.

I have been conducting interviews and doing reference checks this week at my work.

It's only a little bit more fun on the other side of the interview table!

wow such doge of venice (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 09:47 (ten years ago) link

I enjoy being on the other side of the table and tins certainly given me some insight into how to get a resume past HR and to the person that matters. For jobs I really want I Wil answer the job spec point by point in a table. From the other side I gave up on HR screening resumes I could do it much faster and bring people in wjo would never have made it through an HR screen some of whom have turned out to be pure gold.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 23:06 (ten years ago) link

^^ real talk, interviewed a gem of a lady that might not have passed a resume screening process

I am liking listening to 3RRR's mix of surf music with the lights off and the shades down and the AC on minimal. (Got to conserve some electricity or Frankston will black out again)

Matmos tonight! How were the Aussie shows?

etc, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 20:56 (ten years ago) link

I didnae go, but r0b said they were "adorable" and it was awesome. I shoulda.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 21:37 (ten years ago) link

Sydney was great, in a purpose-built recital hall that's one of the best-sounding venues in the city. Which rendered slightly incongruous the track built on bright video of a toilet being taken apart and the plumbing snaked. (This was one of two or three world premiere pieces, apparently.)

giant faps are what you take, wanking on the moon (sic), Thursday, 23 January 2014 00:40 (ten years ago) link

Oh man, just got back from the show (was DJing til 3am); v.diff venue to a recital hall (rockabilly-ish dive bar). Yeah, the NY toilet gold/shit track/video was gawjiss (had the most uh audience interlocution by far).

etc, Thursday, 23 January 2014 14:42 (ten years ago) link

MC noted they normally play rockabilly-ish dive bars and it was weird to be asked if eg the facilities were ok! the show probably would have been more fun overall in a standing/dancing venue, but the disconnect made it especially enjoyable on that level anyway
