Lex totally rules

I mean, he rules at life and you all are jealous
― brimstead, Tuesday, 24 December 2013 03:25 (ten years ago) link
Yeah, must be awesome to be so negative about everything
― Darin, Tuesday, 24 December 2013 03:30 (ten years ago) link
Dude, Lex is totally not negative about everything, he is super-excited about the new Beyonce record for instance, so much so that I have been thoroughly enjoying reading his posts about it, more, I'm sure, than I would enjoy listening to the record itself (just because I don't have the necessary background for it, not because there's anything wrong with it.)

Negative Lex is funny/adorable but Giddy Excitable Lex is genuinely awesome and contagious, this dude rules imo
― queen bey backers (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 24 December 2013 03:38 (ten years ago) link
Sorry, I'm sure he's a great guy irl. His negative posts just seem louder than his positive ones.
― Darin, Tuesday, 24 December 2013 03:40 (ten years ago) link
c'mon this is not a lex hating thread really is it just fun with a guy who vocally hates the shit he hates, everybody loves lex
― combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 24 December 2013 03:45 (ten years ago) link
frankly I wish I knew how to hate things as lovably as he does, whenever I hate things I just end up sounding like a grumpy a-hole
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 24 December 2013 03:48 (ten years ago) link
well in fairness I don't think it hurts his cause that a lot of the stuff he hates makes for pretty easy target practice

This line from his Quietus 2013 round-up haunts my dreams:
Worse still was the colonisation that accompanies gentrification: of course sad boys such as Autre Ne Veut, Ryan Hemsworth and Cyril Hahn would gain critical plaudits, because the state of being a sad boy is still held to be the height of artistry in the cases of Hemsworth and Hahn, sad white boys whose gimmick was to remix black women's music into greyness. These people are not necessary.

today's disgusting savage: went for a run, at the 8k mark (ie i'm fucking dying at this point) this toddler decides to try to race me. i'm not here to play games so i just ignore her and she seems fine. thus far, whatever. her fucking dad gets on his fucking high horse and is all like "why didn't you run alongside her! she just wants to play!" the fucking gall of the man. for ONCE in my life i don't suffer from esprit d'escalier - it's true what they say, exercise is good for your brain - and i snap back "the sooner she learns that the world doesn't revolve around her the better - it's not too late for her, UNLIKE HER DAD"

This is a "we love Lex" thread, right? Because Lex is one of the most totally loveable human beings I have ever met.
His rrrraaaaage is funny because it is so vocally, hilariously over-the-top and yet at the same time, frequently completely OTM. I have only ever seen him point his humour up, never down, which makes it not mean-spirited but just... funny. He's almost always right.
Oh, except about Radiohead.
(But then again, every time he starts in on Radiohead, I just laugh and go "you're absolutely right! All of this is true, hahaha, omg, so true." I just disagree that it's *bad*.)
Alex is the actual best, and fuiud.

haaa i missed this thread
i'm totally more zen than i was five years ago, i just distrust people who don't hate things? i don't even think i hate MOST things but i see no value in REPRESSING hatred. and yes it's very important not to be just a grumpy cliché of an old person! never be that.
Does lex hate babies/children? I want to think yes.

dislike most strangers' kids (like under 8 i guess), am fond of friends' babies but don't necessarily want to hold them for more than 5 minutes at a time, enjoy watching them grow up from a distance, zero desire to have kids myself/understanding of why people do it (i do get annoyed at parents who think that when i say that i'm insulting them).
(in this sense babies are just like worse versions of dogs imo? love dogs, love playing with them and cuddling them and looking at their cute faces and stupid behaviour, none of this has translated into wanting to actually own one though? largely because having to pick up their shit is a large enough negative)
(i would say the same of cats but i have allergies)

i mean, everything i vocally hate on IS hateable, like obviously and irredeemably and indefensibly so
every so often my bf springs a kitchen task on me and it leaves me with PTSD. like rubbing flour and sugar and butter together or whatever it was? i was so bad at it

I've got a godson and two nieces now and the best thing about being a godfather and uncle is holding them each -- my choice! -- between five and ten minutes and never being the one to discipline them and no expectations foisted on you except dropping in when the children most want you.

lex and I have hung out a couple times and in person he's actually far more inclined to tell you what he loves and what he wants to do and eat and drink
