That Damo Suzuki show *was* awesome, as are Faggott, though M@tt's description of them is pretty much otm.

Did that Jerry Jeff Walker at the zoo show already happen? rats.

BigLurks, Monday, 18 August 2008 19:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Faggott are better to read about than see live because you only have to READ about that dude's butthole rather than SEE it.

the wiki says they have some prog thing going on, but its one of those misspelled names that always makes me nervous

Hey that thing you like? I hate it. (jjjusten), Thursday, 19 March 2009 21:57 (fifteen years ago) link

During the L.D. 50 era, the band was famous for wearing extravagant make-up, seen in both their music videos and live concerts, and using unusual stage names such as Kud, Gurrg, RyKnow, and sPaG.[

i'm grand like auto theft 3 (Jordan), Thursday, 19 March 2009 22:02 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i don't know why i think this, but my gut is that they are "prog" in that sorta what if dream theater liked radiohead kinda way...but this is strictly a gut feeling.

be on the treadmill - uh! - like OK GO (M@tt He1ges0n), Thursday, 19 March 2009 22:03 (fifteen years ago) link

oh man i am going to be so irritated if that is the case, really want to see Torche, but will not sit through crapnoodle for any band, i spend too much time around that shit as it is.

Hey that thing you like? I hate it. (jjjusten), Thursday, 19 March 2009 22:13 (fifteen years ago) link

by the way i claim trademark on the Crapnoodle genre tag as of right now.

Hey that thing you like? I hate it. (jjjusten), Thursday, 19 March 2009 22:14 (fifteen years ago) link

john a couple youtube videos seem like trouble for dredg. my gut was not quite right...now i'm thinking '80s rush but the emo/nu-metal version.

i'm grand like auto theft 3 (Jordan), Friday, 20 March 2009 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link

nice to meet you, matt. i had fun (although i was super exhausted) and i got to get my corn pancakes fix at maria's the next morning.

i'm grand like auto theft 3 (Jordan), Monday, 23 March 2009 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

nice to meet you as well.

really enjoyed the set, i left after the second set to go to the turf to see the danforths CD release show...but yeah you guys definitely bring the party, really liked when you would do a big rhythmic breakdown, also the part time lover cover was cool....definitely seems like a perfect dance/party type vibe.

"feet don't fail me now" was my favorite, and also that ballad you opened with dedicated to someone's uncle or grandpa or something.

everyone is great players, i could almost do with more soloing personally

it was funny going to an early Milo Fine/Davu Seru/Paul Metzger free jazz thing then to your show I felt like I traveled the entire spectrum of jazz.

Reege & Leif (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 23 March 2009 16:51 (fifteen years ago) link

thanks. yeah, the tuba player's grandpa had passed the day before, so it was a little weird when he dedicated the song to him and everyone was like "whooo!". he didn't mention that he had died, maybe so as not to bum everyone out, but what we played ("just a closer walk with thee") was the traditional new orleans send-off.

i'm grand like auto theft 3 (Jordan), Monday, 23 March 2009 17:03 (fifteen years ago) link

oh jeez yeah that didn't come across at all, i don't think the crowd was trying be insensitive. sorry to hear that.

Reege & Leif (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 23 March 2009 17:10 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, it wasn't anybody's fault and i don't think he was offended. that song was really for his/our benefit anyway.

btw i think i misspoke, in addition to the tuba player, both trombone players and that snare drummer are all local minneapolis dudes.

i'm grand like auto theft 3 (Jordan), Monday, 23 March 2009 17:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah I find it really hard to get info on local shows these days, esp since I'm not on FB, of course I can't really go to any shows but still
