they opened for the suicide magnets last weekend, really dug em. tho they sound nothing alike, the lead singer tess reminded me of marion from the dog faced hermans, same kind of shamanistic vibe.

suicide magnets continue to kill it w/ their patented mellow american dread. got members of necronomitron fueling the undertow but you'd never guess. they're playing INC miami tomorrow night.

headsup about the new WHITE SUNS album cos I just threw it on and the track 'Clairvoyant' which arrives somewhere in the middle is a hueg ol' piece of modern pigfuck (I like that life gives me the chance to write phrases like that). it's on The Flenser who seem to put all their stuff on bandcamp after a while, details here for the minute http://theflenser.com/white-suns-announcement/

finally listening to the Troller album discussed in last year's thread; it's really good. Kind of like a better, less stoopid Salem in one sense, but funny how it also slates really well into that sort of arcane synth-y, proggy kind of vibe going on in Texas rn. Works v well in the same context as Razed to the Ground and Contakt

(also, E3: thanks for Dog)

Not sure where to put this, but right now I'm very taken by "Forever" from from Quiltland's Sisto EP: full-on maximalist Air France/operatics/rave-in-a-park collision: https://play.spotify.com/track/2CrpAGO3B1Y5jHcttu3pSR

(only have a Spotify link atm, there is an old version on Soundcloud but it doesn't have the same impact)

dem bow dem bow need calcium (seandalai), Monday, 16 June 2014 22:47 (nine years ago) link

That Quiltland record is excellent, and do agree that 'Forever' is a highlight. Very much an Enigma meets 'Chilled Ibiza' vibe that didn't cross as much as it perhaps should have in the early-to-mid 90s.

I'd recommend the new Roll The Dice 1930's Europe concept album Until Silence, they have a 26-piece string ensemble on board and it is a neo-classical, soundtrack with clattery industrial elements type sound. It is good shit.

emil.y, Monday, 17 November 2014 01:00 (nine years ago) link

No, but seriously: my friend played me 'Poor Old Horse' when I went home for christmas last year, but he did the thing he always does and made the preamble so amazing that nothing can ever live up to it. So I spent the year thinking Dawson was good but not as amazing as he was made out to be... until I saw him live. When I was super pissed off with my tent probably having been blown away by horrible winds and worried about everything... and Dawson really *was* as good as the preamble. Pulling up this intense voice, hitting himself to make it come out, screaming and yelping... he is genuinely so so good.

Neil Yup (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 17 November 2014 20:15 (nine years ago) link

Bludded Head are basically a metal band at their core. They incorporate noise and some other stuff but the roots are Harvey Milk, Corrupted, etc.

Richard Dawson is p much one of my favourite working musical entities in the world and has been for the last 18-24 months maybe. he is also a v nice person ime. really glad he is getting more and more opportunities to do his thing in front of more people.

if you happen to see a review of his new album as published by a weekly UK music paper of note, please don't bother reading it as it's been edited to make its writer sound lukewarm on the album, and intimidated by its scary weirdness. FUCK EDITORS

sosmix klopp (NickB), Wednesday, 3 December 2014 13:17 (nine years ago) link

Oh, I think I've heard one of their songs before? I like the music on this, but not so keen on the vocals. It's a vox technique I think I could get on with in other circumstances, it just takes me out of the immersive krauty continuum with this one.

emil.y, Wednesday, 3 December 2014 13:54 (nine years ago) link

sosmix klopp (NickB), Wednesday, 3 December 2014 14:01 (nine years ago) link
