What about if the evil foreigners taking over your game were Dutch ladies with strap-ons?

King Boy Pato, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:09 (sixteen years ago) link

As opposed to Dutch rapists?

Tom D., Monday, 7 January 2008 14:11 (sixteen years ago) link

We'd break out the goalkeepers!

Mark G, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:11 (sixteen years ago) link

The Violation Of Stefan Postma was perpetrated by an Englishwoman.

Just got offed, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:12 (sixteen years ago) link

I knew you'd have ALL the facts about that incident, Louis.

King Boy Pato, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:13 (sixteen years ago) link

It's all on that other thread. ILX is knowledge.

Just got offed, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:15 (sixteen years ago) link

"In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, bloodshed — they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? Sepp Blatter."

Tom D., Monday, 7 January 2008 14:28 (sixteen years ago) link

... Rory Bremner has my permission to steal that for a sketch

Tom D., Monday, 7 January 2008 14:29 (sixteen years ago) link

doesn't say much for either of you, really....

darraghmac, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:31 (sixteen years ago) link

I know, I should charge him a fee in future

Tom D., Monday, 7 January 2008 14:32 (sixteen years ago) link

but even reigning champions greece who knocked out elite teams such as spain and france etc. have a foreign manager.

ken c, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:38 (sixteen years ago) link

england aren't plucky though.

darraghmac, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Need to take tips from plucky bravehearts Scotland

Dom Passantino, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:43 (sixteen years ago) link

england: too big to be "plucky", too small to be "elite".

Upt0eleven, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Scotland would never be unpatriotic enough to have a foreign manager

Tom D., Monday, 7 January 2008 14:44 (sixteen years ago) link

england: too big to be "plucky", too small to be "elite".

Big on self-importance? Small on achievement?

Tom D., Monday, 7 January 2008 14:45 (sixteen years ago) link

yup, sounds about right.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:45 (sixteen years ago) link

big on steak pies, small on exercise

ken c, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Do we have any Spanish ILXors? They should really post here in a kinda "Four Yorkshiremen" stylee when people moan about the England team.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:46 (sixteen years ago) link

At least they're in Euro 2008!

Tom D., Monday, 7 January 2008 14:46 (sixteen years ago) link

"you english dornt knor y' born. lose at horm t' Croatia? we'd luv to lose at horm t' Russia. plastic pitch, we'd luv t' play ont plastic pitch. best we can do is t' donkeys backside. etc etc. Ole"

Upt0eleven, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:50 (sixteen years ago) link

"Eeez not rat, eeez Reyes"

Dom Passantino, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:51 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah i don't think any Spaniards feel they are really worse off than England fans

blueski, Monday, 7 January 2008 14:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Don't they care more about Real and Barca anyway? A bit like Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd fans? And Celtic fans. And Rangers fans.

Tom D., Monday, 7 January 2008 14:58 (sixteen years ago) link

and irish fans.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 7 January 2008 15:21 (sixteen years ago) link

who's the bloke signing the car lot to Ian Beale?

ken c, Monday, 7 January 2008 15:28 (sixteen years ago) link

=it's never ceases to amaze me how many of the worst footballing organisations have senile corrupt germans as their heads.

I'm struggling to think of one. No German has ever run FIFA; Gerhard Aigner was Gen Sec of UEFA (not President) and was defo about 8/10 for my money. I'm sure corrupt germans have at some stage run the German FA, but most sensible commentators acknowledge the DFB is the best run and most on-the-ball in Europe.

Carry on.

Surprised no-one's tried to revive the '4-4-2' / '4-5-1' memes we all used to love so much back when

matthew ugh, son (DJ Mencap), Monday, 28 June 2010 10:52 (thirteen years ago) link

fallen soldier formations imo

,,,,,,eeeeleon (darraghmac), Monday, 28 June 2010 11:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah but '4-4-2' used to be 'OTM' and '4-5-1' used to be 'lol hapless losers' and now everyone's jumped on the bandwagon that it's the other way round and if only we'd been playing 4-5-1 maybe we wouldn't have been so shit. It would be a semiotic meme nightmare.
