Awesome night out at Texas Roadhouse..got a great chest pump while eating there, I'll explain.

I forgot I was wearing my tank top ( Ha ha jk, but not to show off ) and the girls working were begging to see me in action. I seriously refused until the whole right section of the roadhouse was cheering me on, so had no choice. They had 2 of these huge beer kegs in the back. I'm not an expert on weight but I can guarantee you they were at least 175 pounds, so 400 together. So I'm laying on the broiler and I repped out at least 16 deep presses, while the waitresses are feeling my calves haha gotta love it. I could tell the guy who was my server was pissed and can only imagine his anger when he checked my receipt. Just another night out as a wealthy bodybuilder.

One dude was like "hey, good lookin out, somebody might've tried to tow me!" -- I didn't have the heart to tell him that I am the one who calls the tow company in that scenario

Haha. Sounds like a promising career in racketeering.

I tipped the plumber this weekend, but looked it up online afterwards and learned that you probably don't have to.

one month passes...

Had to buy a new dishwasher this past weekend. It was delivered and installed today. The delivery arrived separately from the guy who actually hooked up the electrics and plumbing a few hours later. I only had a single $5 bill on hand because I'm a piece of shit. I ended up tipping the installer, because he did more work, but I'm thinking I should have tipped the delivery guys instead, because they probably have a lower base wage.

assume the new guy thinks you tipped the old guy and and that the old guy thinks you tipped the new guy - do not tip anyone

Eyeball Kicks, Monday, 15 September 2014 08:59 (nine years ago) link

Honest question: why are you tipping a doorman?

Liquid Plejades, Monday, 15 September 2014 09:20 (nine years ago) link

I use to get occasional tips (buck or two) from customers when I worked at a video rental store. Always erased their late fees after that!

Liquid Plejades, Monday, 15 September 2014 09:22 (nine years ago) link

20 bucks seems steep unless he's coordinating some class-A drug deals or similar

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 15 September 2014 11:45 (nine years ago) link

Does he *make* doors? That might be worth a little more, too.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 15 September 2014 12:18 (nine years ago) link

apt block. over the week we got directions, help with facilities, general tips on neighbourhood so yknow we felt guilted into paying him extra for doing his job becos America

fedora, wherever it may find her (darraghmac), Monday, 15 September 2014 13:10 (nine years ago) link

oh and eh idk if this complicates things, right, but the guy we ended up tipping was white and the guy who helped us out all week for nothing was black.

maybe I should start a new thread.

fedora, wherever it may find her (darraghmac), Monday, 15 September 2014 13:11 (nine years ago) link

Race shouldn't matter

I'd say if you saw the guy who was a big help you could tip him if you liked him

But if it was a guy who you had never seen before I wouldn't have tipped him

, Monday, 15 September 2014 13:37 (nine years ago) link

Maybe there's a doorman's pool, just like how they handle tips at restaurants.

pplains, Monday, 15 September 2014 13:42 (nine years ago) link

Kinda doubt it, but I don't really know shit about doorpersons. Feel like it would be assumed that a tip was for particular help rendered by that particular individual, kind of like the police informant shoeshine boys of 'every old movie' fame.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 15 September 2014 13:45 (nine years ago) link

yeah I was probably idealising a little by hoping for a pooled system huh

kinda sucks to be the weekday guy in that case

fedora, wherever it may find her (darraghmac), Monday, 15 September 2014 13:53 (nine years ago) link

if you were staying as a short-term guest AirBNB style in a building where people mostly live full-time, and the building is staffed by a doorman, the residents likely tip the doorman during the holidays, and you are under no obligation to tip for your marginal cost to the doorman's labor.

I am getting married, and I believe that I am supposed to just tip everyone I see that day, including aunts and uncles.

I believe you've just misread 'tipple'

fedora, wherever it may find her (darraghmac), Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:04 (nine years ago) link

tippling opportunities unbridled at this wedding

fedora, wherever it may find her (darraghmac), Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:06 (nine years ago) link

misreading 'unbridled' for 'unbrided' would be grounds for a terrible fight, I think

Bitterer than Bitter (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:11 (nine years ago) link

I believe you've misread 'grounds for divorce'

, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:11 (nine years ago) link

i like the new direction of this thread

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:15 (nine years ago) link

xp if the dj plays 'misread' during dinner, he will get a better tip. if he plays 'grounds for divorce', he will get a different kind of tip, i.e. "hey man, maybe don't play songs with that title at a wedding. or maybe just don't play any wolf parade songs."

Bitterer than Bitter (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:18 (nine years ago) link

but then he'd also get a monetary tip because I don't like confrontation

should you tip your airbnb hosts?

bizarro gazzara, Thursday, 9 April 2015 09:25 (nine years ago) link

Bartender... 98% lol good luck usa

The thing that is a drag about drinking in the UK versus the US is that the tipping is a GOOD thing for the customer. If you always start off the night at a bar you're going to be at for a while by tipping $5 or $10 on the first round, then, when the bar's crowded, the bartender will come to you faster. Plus you get buyback drinks. And you get treated better the next time you come in. Everyone wins.

The amount of time I've wasted standing at a pub over here waiting for a disinterested bartender to eventually work his or her way over, paying no attention whatsoever to the order people arrived at the bar...

Your Ribs are My Ladder, Thursday, 9 April 2015 12:38 (nine years ago) link

That's just inept bartending though.

Quack and Merkt (Tom D.), Thursday, 9 April 2015 12:53 (nine years ago) link

Well, it's certainly very American: Throw a little cash around, etc.
Not saying that's not unfair.
But when I tip well and get stronger drinks faster, I think that's great bartending.

Your Ribs are My Ladder, Thursday, 9 April 2015 12:57 (nine years ago) link

That's the other thing, of course: Better tips and a heavier pour.
Reminds me of that old Doug Stanhope bit on Charlie Brooker's show about UK bartenders putting on a labcoat and grabbing a beaker to measure your shot, making sure not a vapour more of spirit leaks into the glass...

Your Ribs are My Ladder, Thursday, 9 April 2015 12:58 (nine years ago) link

Tipping is a flat circle

, Thursday, 9 April 2015 13:01 (nine years ago) link

everyone wins except somebody who doesn't have $10 to give away obv

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 9 April 2015 13:02 (nine years ago) link

Better idea if publicans only employed Polish or Czech barmaids tbh
