what happens if the sound engineer drops the wrong mix on itunes tho

all is fair in love and womp (monotony), Friday, 25 April 2014 11:29 (ten years ago) link

i don't think mimi quite grasps quite the word "surprise" means. four singles, billboard announcement, release date in the month that it's been scheduled for ≠ surprise

intrigued by wtf she's going for though - i've loved everything so far but i have no idea whether she wants this to be an album for tru heads à la memoirs ("you're mine" suggested that commercial smashing wasn't a priority) or HITZ ("#beautiful", and the endless delays, suggest she wants these too...)

hang on, these are evidently exhumed from the shelved memoirs remix album. oh mimi, bless you for still trying to make angels advocate happen

lex pretend, Thursday, 1 May 2014 07:34 (ten years ago) link

well this looks bad

that this is a nickname and not something jd just called her last week when she turned up 3 hours late at the studio for mixing is stretching believability but i'll take it

prolego, Thursday, 1 May 2014 08:22 (ten years ago) link

I love how her titles keep getting more and more ridiculous

steendriver dysphoria hoos (The Reverend), Thursday, 1 May 2014 09:49 (ten years ago) link

can we start a parody list of titles?

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 May 2014 15:29 (ten years ago) link

omg i didn't even notice the angels advocate repeats hahahaha

i hope "one more try" is a george michael cover, she would do a really beautiful job on it i'm sure

dyl, Thursday, 1 May 2014 17:48 (ten years ago) link

yeah it almost certainly is. faith is one of her favourite albums and it quite heavily influenced her (first!) self-titled album

prolego, Thursday, 1 May 2014 17:53 (ten years ago) link

omg. at all of this. i didn't know that RE: Faith but that's awesome. makes so much sense. tracklisting looks good. tho nervous about the babies singing. Mary J!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

surm, Thursday, 1 May 2014 19:07 (ten years ago) link

the way she pronounces "chanteuse" in that video is everything

ginuwine's cousin (monotony), Friday, 2 May 2014 10:09 (ten years ago) link

New single is called "Thirsty" and produced by Hit-Boy.

jeez, what a mess

Number None, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 13:51 (ten years ago) link

sounds like they just slapped a couple of unrelated acapellas on top of a third-rate knockoff of the Niggas in Paris beat

Number None, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 13:53 (ten years ago) link

The HQ for anyone not interested in hearing radio djs talking over it: http://revolt.tv/video/first-listen-mariah-carey-ft-rich-homie-quan-thirsty/66859648-E559-4CD9-A79C-EC40E1434DD6

I think I like this. Mostly for the pre-chorus(?).

Greer, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 14:39 (ten years ago) link

omg

surm, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 14:46 (ten years ago) link

surm, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 14:48 (ten years ago) link

even surm forgot "the art of letting go" ;_;

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 14:52 (ten years ago) link

(this is very "migrate", which is a plus for me)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 14:53 (ten years ago) link

ok i've only heard it once and "UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty." is basically embedded in my head forever

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 14:54 (ten years ago) link

UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty. UH. you're thirsty.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 16:17 (ten years ago) link

i'm resigned to none of these singles being hits but i'm pretty optimistic about this album given her last few and the people who worked on this one

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 16:18 (ten years ago) link

the lack of hits hasn't correlated with the quality of her music since like 2005 so i'm not really awaiting that smash single either

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 16:21 (ten years ago) link

i mean, e=mc2 was packed with hits and she still managed to mostly fuck the campaign up, then memoirs pretty explicitly didn't aim for hits, so it's a moot point really

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 16:22 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, Emancipation was imo the least interesting of the last five albums, including Christmas Part II.

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:18 (ten years ago) link

Get out.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 20:07 (ten years ago) link

damn, this really is a mess :/

The Reverend, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 20:10 (ten years ago) link

"Beautiful" went platinum though. It's kind of a hit. Not a smash, but casual radio listeners are aware of it. #81 for the year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Year-End_Hot_100_singles_of_2013 so it's about as much of a hit as "Adorn" or "Swimming Pools."

billstevejim, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 20:36 (ten years ago) link

I've heard it at bars.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 20:36 (ten years ago) link

well sure, it got out there a bit. it's just being measured against, y'know, 18 career #1s and a gigantic comeback less than a decade ago.

some dude, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 20:41 (ten years ago) link

yeah of course. i guess i'm just always surprised how many people are aware of it considering it didn't place Top 10, compared to songs that no one remembers that actually achieved single-digit status.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 20:45 (ten years ago) link

let's not forget Obsessed climbing up to #7 when Memoirs came out! weeeee!

surm, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 20:47 (ten years ago) link

i remember obsessed spending several weeks at #11 before airplay finally pushed it to #7 and finding it very funny

dyl, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 23:26 (ten years ago) link

oh yeah and this new song is garbage, what a waste of such a #buzzworthy title

dyl, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 23:27 (ten years ago) link

"#Beautiful" significantly outlasted its chart run on radio here

The Reverend, Wednesday, 14 May 2014 05:44 (ten years ago) link

i like it. it's like a schmaltzier Migrate.

you tryin to be a boss nowwwwwwwwww

surm, Wednesday, 14 May 2014 12:50 (ten years ago) link

mariah's a cappellas o_O

surm, Wednesday, 14 May 2014 12:53 (ten years ago) link

"One More Try" is a cover of George Michael's 1988 single of the same name.

;,)

maura, Thursday, 15 May 2014 21:40 (ten years ago) link

!!

now that i listened to this song a bit, i feel like it's done what triumphant was trying to do better. but if it really wanted to be a flat out kickass song, she woulda focuzed on the "u tryin to be a boss now" hook in a major way.

surm, Thursday, 15 May 2014 22:07 (ten years ago) link

probably that should have been the chorus, and the chorus shoulda been the bridge. crazy hot hook.

surm, Thursday, 15 May 2014 23:20 (ten years ago) link

internets responding well.
