Keane was not surprised that Rio Ferdinand will leave United this summer or bothered that the defender was not given a chance to say goodbye to the Old Trafford crowd.

"That might have suited him," he said. "Not everybody wants to wander around the pitch waving and crying. It's not about walking on the pitch – I don't know where you're going with this one. He didn't have a chance to say goodbye? You can say goodbye on Twitter, can't you?"

I like this Suárez quote:

Suárez finished the season with 31 goals, leaving him top of the European Golden Boot table with Cristiano Ronaldo, who still has a league game to play this Saturday. What, he was asked, do the words "Real Madrid" mean to him? Suárez grinned. "Real Madrid? The only thing I think is Cristiano Ronaldo and that he doesn't score. He's one of the best in the world with Messi. I kill myself to score goals; they do it so easily. If he scores, it'll be a pity."

Former Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood has spoken publicly for the first time since he lost his job on Tuesday, with the youthful tactician confirming he was not surprised when he was told he would not continue in the post.

The death of Jean-Luc Dehaene, the former Belgian prime minister who has headed Uefa's financial fair play investigations, may cause a delay to the case surrounding Manchester City's breach of the FFP rules.

Dehaene, 73, had been suffering from cancer but died following a fall in France, according to media reports in Belgium. Dehaene was chairman of the Club Football Control Body (CFCB) and it is understood he had been struggling with his illness during recent weeks. He still took an active role in the investigations and had been kept updated with all the documentation.

He is also keen to sign a new left-back this summer despite Jon Flanagan's encouraging development in the role last season and Bertrand is top of his preferred wish-list. Chelsea may be reluctant to sell the 24-year-old to Liverpool, however, in which case Rodgers may turn his attentions to Sevilla's £15m-rated full-back Alberto Moreno.

it is a disgrace that his club thought winning the league was a bigger deal than his birthday. the nerve

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 12:28 (nine years ago) link

Thinking one is a bigger deal doesn't entail forgetting the other.

tsrobodo, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 13:59 (nine years ago) link

except they didn't forget. 2 cakes, a card ,a twitter card, and a sing song BUT NO HANDSHAKE.

How can Ya Ya be expected to perform for such ingrates?

pandemic, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:03 (nine years ago) link

i thought the beef was that the birthday cake wasn't as large as the winning premier league cake?

I thought the cake came after the complaint

CAKEGATE

coign of wantage (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:24 (nine years ago) link

cakegate is like the worst & weakest shit reason for agitating for a transfer ever. At least when Cashley was talking shite about respect he meant "I need 55kpw of respect instead of £50kpw".

pick it up for ripple laser (onimo), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:55 (nine years ago) link

it seems v. reminiscent of Cashley tbh, don't remember him publicly articulating "it's just about the money" at the time

coign of wantage (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 15:00 (nine years ago) link

He essentially said the contract offer indicated a lack of respect.

Yaya's agent is using cakes and handshakes instead of contracts (though he's also going on about free Bugattis).

"my client wants full image rights and a balloon animal" etc et al seems a bit infra dig tbh but we do be needing a transfer thread

West Brom have signed midfielder Craig Gardner from Premier League rivals Sunderland on a three-year deal.

"Craig is someone we have followed for a long time and we are delighted to get him," said director of football administration Richard Garlick.

Garlick added: "He has the flexibility to play in a few positions across the midfield, scores goals, and can slot in at right-back if required."

"do a job" is the usual parlance i spose but "slot in" is the tru realness, just a shitty builder with his arse out taking a triumphant gulp of his 10th sugary cuppa of the day as he admires a horrendous bodge job... seamless m8
