yeah, the whole I'M GONNA HIT YOU NOW BECAUSE YOU KNOCKED OVER MY SNOWCASTLE after years of being debased by a real baby sadist rang hella false

If they'd written it more as her venting years of frustration against an easy target that would've been OK.

yeah, exactly! it was right there!
tbf, the actress playing sansa is not spectacular.

that was probably the intent but i think what failed in that scene wasn't the writing as much as the directing and via that the acting.

how much actual time is supposed to have passed between the beginning of season 1 and now? because arya is about 5'9" now.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 17:37 (nine years ago) link

I think two years at least.

I'm not sure it's ever made entirely clear how they mark the passing of years in Westeros (and I've read the books!). Are there like mini seasons on top of the years-long summers and winters?

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 17:40 (nine years ago) link

I think it's the writing that got messed up, because:

in that same chapter little robert arryn comes along with his doll and starts destroying her snow castle, like the little jerk that he is. So Sansa in an attempt to stop him grabs the doll and accidentally rips it head off

The accumulated trauma idea could've been pulled off, but that's the responsibility of the writing and at the discretion of the direction/editing. As is, everything happened so quickly (like they were antsy to get to The Kiss) that any motivating factor got shortchanged.

i think w/that exact dialogue you could have shown sansa kinda getting worked up a bit more, or differently, making it clear that it's really about something else entirely, and making her apology play like her snapping out of it, rather than this sort of generic bratty kid and exasperated girl thing that plays like a dumb overreaction.

The look on Lysa's face after Fingerbang says "I have only loved one woman" is gonna haunt my nightmares forever

Has "Fingerbang" always talked out the side of his mouth like Popeye?

Evan, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 19:43 (nine years ago) link

Sort of thinking that Littlefinger's entire plan is predicated on Tyrion dying, which looks a banker from his point of view but probably isn't going to happen. Assuming divorce isn't a thing in Westeros, which it doesn't appear to be.

So as long as Tyrion remains alive (and everyone thinks that Bran is dead) then Sansa isn't the grand prize that she appears to be. Which means that now would be a very very bad time indeed for Arya and the Hound to just rock up at the Vale.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:09 (nine years ago) link

Does it matter whether Tyrion dies? I thought the only purpose Tyrion serves in the plan is to be who everyone thinks killed the king. Though honestly I have no idea how this is all supposed to play out in the long run according to LF.

Evan, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:36 (nine years ago) link

he needs to marry sansa to have a claim on winterfell, and she is married to tyrion.

mizzell, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:37 (nine years ago) link

Divorces in Westeros happen the same they did in Tudor England: find a religious figure to annul it.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:41 (nine years ago) link

Isn't the prosecution's story that Sansa was an accomplice to the murder? Seems weird that they'd just let her marry Littlefinger without a trial or something.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:47 (nine years ago) link

Seeing her pushed through the hole was a rare moment of something being all the sweeter for being predictable, with all the anticipation knowing it was going to happen.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:52 (nine years ago) link

Is Littlefinger doing Sean Connery?

schwantz, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:56 (nine years ago) link

Define "doing."

Also I have no idea where Stannis Kru are packing up to travel to. Pretty sure this is the result of bad writing, but are they heading up to the Wall or having another crack at King's Landing?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 21:15 (nine years ago) link

Stannis going north, altho it might be good if he kept everyone guessing on this more in the meantime.

Didn't expect them to be killing off Lysa so soon. You would/should slap Robert for the smallest thing tho, as Lil Taffingies asserted himself and especially as he starts to resemble Julian Casablancas more and more. stroke is coming indeed.

nashwan, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 21:19 (nine years ago) link

had to google Julian Casablancas... and holyyyy shit.

o man i am so upset abt the depiction of braavos in the opening credits i wait patiently all season for a new castle then this, all the other castles are so dope and look like real little machines gearing up then this braavos shit is just some horrible sloppy cgi bs wtf happened did their original castles guy die or something they ruined everything

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 13:54 (nine years ago) link

Man GoT is the one show I never skip the opening credits of. So stirring.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:10 (nine years ago) link

dude who plays the hound was amazin gin this episode. the way he said "i didn't steal the toy, i was just playing with it" just broke my heart.

i agree that new-gregor is not nearly as sinister as the first version. new one just looks like a big brute. old one seemed truly evil.

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:11 (nine years ago) link

Somebody told me they change the opening credits based on who shows up in that ep so I started watching the opening credits but they ran the same shit for like 6 eps straight so I stopped

new gregor is the strongest man in iceland apparently??

its like instantly he was a child again. so good

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:14 (nine years ago) link

GoT has the best opening credits ever, except for dr. quinn medicine woman. for those of us who haven't read the books it's like a nice reminder of the GoT's geography

but yeah, they totaly fucked up braavos. maybe the person who created it got all cocky after the first few seasons, and when they came back to him to do braavos she was like "yeah i'll do it...for 8 million bucks. ~snicker snicker~ you NEED me now" and the producers decided to go with someone else

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:16 (nine years ago) link

yeah that is a large dude. i am curious how he will handle the long stirring monologue gregor gets this season.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:18 (nine years ago) link

Gregor Clegane: You stupid fucking cunt. You, Williamson, I'm talking to you, shithead. You just cost me $6,000. Six thousand dollars, and one Cadillac. That's right. What are you going to do about it? What are you going to do about it, asshole? You're fucking shit. Where did you learn your trade, you stupid fucking cunt, you idiot? Who ever told you that you could work with men? Oh, I'm gonna have your job, shithead.

omg they should remake GGR with arnie, stallone, jcvd, etc. billion dollar idea.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:22 (nine years ago) link

I don't think they change the opening credits per episode, they haven't had the Eyrie yet this season and the Dreadfort's been in all the episodes. And Winterfell's still there!

gyac, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:33 (nine years ago) link

yeah its not comprehensive but it does have some relationship to the episode like the slavers bay cities were all up to date and then when bravoos was introduced and so on

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:35 (nine years ago) link

Yeah they aren't different every single episode but they do definitely bring locations in mid-season.

Game of Thrones and True Detective have been the only US series where I have never once skipped the credits.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:37 (nine years ago) link

Braavos looked good in the actual show.
