"No, I really like the story and the linear non-branching gameplay option is really refreshing after playing the acclaimed and 17-year-old Final Fantasy Tactics repeatedly."

LOL If I had a PS3 I'd be playing Metal Gear Solid 3, cos I've only ever attempted it on emulator and it is just too slow to play at the moment.
It is funny to hear Major Tom explain things to Snake at an incredibly relaxed pace with that nice accent of his.

PS3/PS4 player looking to zone out on a new game this weekend, any recs guys? I like very violent action games with RPG elements or non-JRPG RPGs with action elements.
New Wolfenstein? Watch Dogs? something else? doesn't have to be new.
(I usually play all the tentpole games-- in terms of the last 12 mos Far Cry 3, Borderlands 2, GTAV, Last of Us, Tomb Raider, GTAV, Ghosts, Mercenary Kings, Infamous Second Son, Dark Souls 2, XCOM are all accounted for). This is crossposted to the what ru playing now thread, sorry but i simply can't take the risk
― antexit, Friday, 30 May 2014 14:54 (nine years ago) link
shit you DID already play tomb raider
― Neckbread (Will M.), Friday, 30 May 2014 15:00 (nine years ago) link
Yeah, fun game but I only got about 10 hours out of it even with the stupid collectables. "This appears to be some kind of ancient coin! The nailpolish on it indicates it was used in an ancient jukebox!"
― antexit, Friday, 30 May 2014 15:08 (nine years ago) link
Sleeping Dogs?
― Look at this joke I've recognised, do you recognise it as well? (forksclovetofu), Friday, 30 May 2014 15:09 (nine years ago) link
btw, since I never post anymore and this is the PS3 thread, my last year of gaming can be summed up by the following, which I noticed last night:
I logged 12 more hours on Mercenary Kings than I did on GTAV! That blows my mind.
― antexit, Friday, 30 May 2014 15:11 (nine years ago) link
Played Sleeping Dogs, got bored of it once I was fully levelled up and never beat it, as often happens. You're on the right track though dudes! Keep it up!
― antexit, Friday, 30 May 2014 15:12 (nine years ago) link
Oh wait actually the reason I stopped playing it was I kept getting stuck coming out of the ocean on these fucking idiot rockfaces that you can't scale and are like 10 minutes on foot in either direction.

antexit what abt ass ass in screed
― am0n, Friday, 30 May 2014 15:26 (nine years ago) link
If you're up to date with the Arkhams then it does sound like Watch Dogs is probably what you're after, unless you want to save that for next gen (which I'm leaning towards doing).
― JimD, Friday, 30 May 2014 15:44 (nine years ago) link
you're long done with elder scrolls, yeah?

how about kingdoms of amalur or dungeons dogma?

or whatever the fuck those were called
Wolfenstein!
― ▴▲ ▴TH3CR()$BY$H()W▴▲ ▴ (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 30 May 2014 16:59 (nine years ago) link
I hate Assassin's Creed. How come there is apparently no single period in all of history that people don't fucking blunder right into you when they see you walking toward them?
I am grudgingly leaning toward Watch Dogs (on PS4), which I fully expect to be another crappy Ubisoft game where I am forced to sit through 6 cumulative hours of unskippable cutscenes featuring a protagonist who looks and acts like some nerd in 1998's idea of a cool dude.
I ruined Skyrim for myself by grinding my character up to God Mode level, unfortunately. All other Elder Scrolls games are long done.
Dungeons Dogma looks cool but I think I want guns.
Is Wolfenstein actually good? Has anyone played it?

hey, dishonored!

only thing i know about Wolfenstein is this hilarious cutscene where Jimi Hendrix rails against The Man and then gives you acid

Beat Dishonored 2x. Maybe I need a life?
― antexit, Friday, 30 May 2014 17:12 (nine years ago) link
you need a more complex game.
― Look at this joke I've recognised, do you recognise it as well? (forksclovetofu), Friday, 30 May 2014 17:14 (nine years ago) link
Wolfenstein is pretty awesome. Not much in the way of RPG elements but top notch fps combat. Plus you can play it stealthy or play it guns blazing whatever suits you at the moment.
― ▴▲ ▴TH3CR()$BY$H()W▴▲ ▴ (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 30 May 2014 17:18 (nine years ago) link
Wolfenstein is really, really good.
― bizarro gazzara, Friday, 30 May 2014 17:21 (nine years ago) link
YAY! Thanks guys. Wolfenstein it is.
― antexit, Friday, 30 May 2014 17:36 (nine years ago) link
isnt wolfenstein set in a 60s where the nazis won?
does that means they ended up successfully killing all the jews?
― socki (s1ocki), Friday, 30 May 2014 20:11 (nine years ago) link
and does that dampen at all the funhouse atmosphere of the world it takes place in?
The lead character is jewish, as are some NPCs, so the answer to your second question is no.

NBA 2K14 free on Plus. Nice surprise for me, since I was too lazy to buy it this year
― Nhex, Wednesday, 4 June 2014 18:17 (nine years ago) link
Thanks for the Wolfenstein rec, guys, it's awesome. The BFG-type weapon is surprisingly and disappointingly sucky (unless I haven't found it yet?), but everything else about this game is pretty awesome. Best shooter I've played in forever, and maybe the most satisfying stealth mode ever in an action game? Aside from the idiot enemy AI that disregards sentries disappearing from expected posts even on the highest difficulty levels, that is.
― antexit, Wednesday, 4 June 2014 18:27 (nine years ago) link
Oh, except Far Cry 3, I guess. Also the L1 lean is great and every FPS should rip it off from now on

hello:
Hi Antexit,
Welcome to the Destiny First Look Alpha, a small sampling of activities you'll find in the final experience. Destiny is an action game that combines the campaign story, cooperative, and competitive modes you expect, with in-depth character creation and a huge variety of weapons, armor, and combat abilities. Create a character. Take it into every mode. Venture out into the world alone, or play with friends in search of action and adventure.
The Destiny First Look Alpha is not final. Players may experience bugs and incomplete features. Thanks for helping us pave the way to Beta, and Destiny's launch on September 9th, 2014.
The Ultimate Destiny™ Experience is only on PlayStation®
Here is your code:

Devil Summoners 1 and 2 (PS2) on sale for $4 each on PSN. I'd probably get them but I haven't even touched Persona 3 yet

So injustice is maybe the worst written story mode in the history of fighting games which is uh amazing really
― Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Monday, 28 July 2014 03:58 (nine years ago) link
it is the worst. it is also fantastic!
― Nhex, Monday, 28 July 2014 03:59 (nine years ago) link
you know what, i'm gonna flip that around. it's probably the BEST story mode ever done in a fighting game

Bought The Swapper via PSN's preorder sale based on unanimous raves and comparisons to Portal 2. So we'll see how that pans out.
