it seemed like the really boring stuff that was dime-a-dozen in half the midwest punk scenes of the late 90s― djenter the dragon? (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, May 30, 2014 7:31 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

i fucking love d4, i have little to no interest in a pedestrian d4

scratches a familiar itch, i guess. seeing them tomorrow with lemuria and pup, which should be bouncy.

Man there's no way that is in the same table as Dillinger Four
Sounds to me like Jawbreaker or something else I was never really into

sorry hoos making fun of the menzingers is really fun, most of my friends really love them, i obviously just don't get it

saw menzingers open for gaslight and i liked them then
― Mordy, Saturday, 31 May 2014 21:48 (nine years ago) link
show last night was fun but pretty bro-y: some asshole during lemuria yelled 'show us your tits'--a generous bystander escorted him to the bar for a drink, then shoved him out the door where he was barred. which was pretty satisfying.
i should stop being surprised at the number of frat dudes at these kinds of shows i guess? like this stuff has always coded to me as a countercultural cause it was me and the skate rats listening to D4 and whatever back in the day, but times change i guess

maybe--the DC denim jacket+patches kids all go to the hc/grindcore shows in basements that i'm going to fewer and fewer of these days. the stuff that'd go in this thread seems to attract other strata.

Always superconfusing to go to a record store and look for dillinger four only to come across some assholes from australia

(they have sort of a dillinger four-esque sound imo inasmuch as their sound can be differentiated from the masses of pop punk)

Good god, memory overload. Crazy thinking about all these bands that slipped through the tracks in the early 00s that probably would be welcomed with open arms and have an easier time finding an audience if they were around today

every recommendation in this thread should come with a Singy/Shouty Gauge ... like:
"digging the new Burrowing Deep Into A Blanket Of Stars album ... 70/30 Singy/Shouty ... stream it here: LINK"
i like guitars and emo/pop-punk/bullshit, and i don't mind shouty but i prefer singy ... or at least some singy mixed in with the shouty. knowing right where a record falls on that spectrum would be sweet.
― alpine static, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 01:58 (nine years ago) link
oh yeah that's probably a good idea
driver friendly is like 100/0 singy/shouty. it is definitely not as good as bury a dream though
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 07:13 (nine years ago) link
Yeah it's not quite as striking as Bury a Dream, but their records always sound so good. Every tone on this album is so crisp and alert; I wish more albums were produced like this
― Evan R, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:25 (nine years ago) link
i'm really coming around to the driver friendly now actually. way more upbeat than bury a dream but i think "undone" is one of their best songs. also yeah best guitar tones in the game
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 14 July 2014 19:44 (nine years ago) link
and now i can't stop listening to it. it's on spotify for, uh, easier listening than youtube http://open.spotify.com/album/40PYpebL41PqseFC7SgrgX

and so far the new dikembe is very good http://pitchfork.com/advance/496-mediumship/
100/0 singy/shouty although i don't think they can really sing
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 15 July 2014 17:37 (nine years ago) link
Do people on thread know Basement? Never heard of them but apparently an English band that went on hiatus in 2012 and just reunited. Not really a band name amenable to ILX search. Maybe 80/20 singy/shouty and this new song is really good:
http://noisey.vice.com/blog/basement-summers-colour-further-sky-premiere
Their previous album Colourmeinkindness is on spotify and is great, reminds me a bit of Balance and Composure with the chunky 90s alt-rock aspects.
