HBO adaptation of Game of Thrones - will this be just for nerds? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

I guess it just didn't bother me so much.

was fine w/ tyrion's beetlemania, felt one part deep thoughts, one part explaining tyrion's curiosity and tying it to his general humanity, one part this -

arya and the hound feels way more fleshed out than the little bit that was in the book, for the better. that is one thing the show has been able to do more than or better than the books, develop these relationships (some of which aren't even in the book - eg tywin and arya). the same thing happened w/ ygritte and jon snow, and that was w/ the handicap of kit harrington. also rmde at this show and tna but if it takes the form of missandei bathing every week i'll learn to deal. she fine.

Maybe it's because her character in the book is 11 but Missandei was the one female character on the show who wasn't going to get her kit off.

apparently the beetle speech was a dig at Orson Scott Card? I guess he managed to diss the show in between all his other insane rants

My brother was considering giving up the books, he is at Feast and he heard others saying Dance was as big a slog as where he is at. He felt characters are generally just as good or better (Varys, Margaery and some others) on the tv show.
I thought that maybe the epic fantasy elements would be better in the books (something live action screen versions almost never do well) but he says they aren't in much focus.

Dance is much less of a slog than Feast IMO.

Well, Orson Lannister in the show.

there's been some good stuff w/ the hound&arya but they've got a lot of pride between them. brienne&podrick are great & it feels like they might actually admit they enjoy each other's company. the wandering is best when it increases the scope, reminding you how despite all the Everyone Hates The Lannisters sitcom actually nothing much is going on for most ppl & we check in on hot pie & all he's been caring about is gravy

for the most part all the odd couple traveling companions have been great

aside from a few bits here and there (the "nothing" monologue included) i think the traveling stuff has been ponderous. im getting a whiff of the shaggy dog from the hound and arya. but im one of those who think the show takes a drastic drop in quality whenever it leaves kings landing.

I've liked the multiple wandering bands, certainly much more interesting than dwagon queens ongoing court drama and the red queen/lord of light slow burn

Uhm, yeah... book-spoiler perhaps, but if that is what people get from those scenes - and before I began reading the books, I'd probably agree - then the show is sorta falling down on describing what's in the books...

xxp yeah less plot dev than blackwater, another paper hanger probably for next season since i assume they won't return to this plotline too much next week. hopefully a more interesting finale ep than previous seasons will follow

also dudes holding the inner gate against the giant was kinda corny but i dug it a lot

all these eps have like 5 sep storylines, it was great to have this one breathe & give the full scale of battle.

i dug the long, stylized errol flynn battlescene action throughout and in the lengthy single shot particularly; far prefer the swashbuckling approach over rape/gore/torture/repeat as these huge set pieces go

i loved it too. it was incredibly videogamey! if i have time this afternoon i might throw in some HP damage indicators and the occasional gleaming "LEVEL UP" rising from particular strikes

This is the first time the Wall has been fun! Loved this episode probably because it was virtually all action and low on development of characters I don't care about.

If Samwell hasn't died by now he probably isn't going to but come the fuck on.

i dont really care for action really and that action wasnt too good imo, it was pretty stilted and like too linear, the show and shows in general have a hard time being cinematic when they need to, maybe not a big enough budget
