Anticipate Miranda Lambert's "Platinum"

The lyrics are bad on "Automatic", but musically I think it's ok (albeit no "Bathroom Sink" or "Smokin' and Drinkin")

i.e. it has a reactionary streak that may or may not be inevitable when working with boys.

i think for the most part on this record miranda is v aware that her success and power has derived from playing the game demanded by a shitty patriarchal system well

i don't really get why everyone hates "somethin' bad", it's lots of fun

the one i really want to like (and lyrically it's one of the best) is "bathroom sink", the melody doesn't cut quite as hard as the words

i think i may have overlistened to this album now; want to put it away and return in october.

i've barely started overlistening (have had severely curtailed listening time for a few weeks, which makes me treasure repeated listening to it right now)

After a couple of weeks, I think my favorite performance choice on an album full of choices and details I love is the Elvis-y way she throws that second "a home" into the final chorus of "Priscilla."

Still would cut the two singles from this, but there really aren't any other tracks I routinely skip. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is still her best overall album, but it's just one hell of a run she's on.

she's just a really incredible singer, i mean what delivery she's got. the title track A+ is this regard. also love the runaways-gone-country of "little red wagon" going right into some super chill summery vibes on "smokin and drinkin".

this album really really holds up. so into "two rings shy" right now

she's touring the u.s. in 2015 with various opening acts, i was hoping she'd swing through l.a. with ashley monroe but it doesn't look like that's happening yet.

"automatic" is the only really reactionary one, isn't it? "platinum" revels in playing (and winning) the game but its campiness seems like a nod to the fact that the (southern belle?) game is ludicrous (if not rotten), and "girls" and "bathroom sink" support that.

title track of the angaleena presley album is pretty uncomfortably reactionary butttt it's also an incredible song informed by her dad's experiences so....

yeah i honestly can't tell. i like it, and sometimes it makes me cringe so much i can't listen to it.

yeah most pop, rap, r&b braggadocio songs are ultimately about winning a rotten game tho. i don't think it's any worse than the rampant corporate/business imagery around

otm, the other word like this is "rejection". i was in a weird place i guess but this song full-on physically destroyed me three separate times today; i kept putting it on to see if it would happen again and it did. song of the year, an epic in four minutes and one location.

the "Been Caught Stealin'" rip in "Little Red Wagon" gets me every time

on the feeling politically conflicted front i am a huge fan of the line "it's a tried-and-true equation / maintains the small-town population / and turns us all into a family"

Hah, I picked up on the Blitzkrieg Bop lift in Little Red Wagon but not the Jane's Addiction one.

i like how the make-up motifs in "two rings shy" feel like they're alluding to "bathroom sink" (which, yes, is just a killer song)

the last 4 songs on this album are so so so sooo good... alfred is too coldhearted to appreciate "holding on to you" but what a beautiful and romantic song. i like that she can write big broad songs really driven by melody when she wants to, and of course they're still written cleverly or with some sort of intimacy (the "it's cold here in michigan" part of "holding on to you"). "another sunday in the south" is a prime example of this and a 10.0 song.
