Same!!

That single panning shot that tracked the action inside Castle Black was boss, eff the haters.

dual front battles always p exciting imo

also dudes holding the inner gate against the giant was kinda corny but i dug it a lot

I will admit that one shot in castle black was wild

Dreamland, Monday, 9 June 2014 05:23 (nine years ago) link

I just wish they would've cut to king's landing, or, anything else really. Just once

Dreamland, Monday, 9 June 2014 05:24 (nine years ago) link

noooooo that's why it was gr8

all these eps have like 5 sep storylines, it was great to have this one breathe & give the full scale of battle.

that castle black shot was like if there was a battle in that mc escher castle drawing

RIP Ygritte, she thought she knew stuff

polyphonic, Monday, 9 June 2014 06:44 (nine years ago) link

i dug the long, stylized errol flynn battlescene action throughout and in the lengthy single shot particularly; far prefer the swashbuckling approach over rape/gore/torture/repeat as these huge set pieces go
and single episode location was really welcome
more giants please

here here

i loved it too. it was incredibly videogamey! if i have time this afternoon i might throw in some HP damage indicators and the occasional gleaming "LEVEL UP" rising from particular strikes

Karl Malone, Monday, 9 June 2014 13:00 (nine years ago) link

This episode fucking ruled

sinister porpoise (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 9 June 2014 13:31 (nine years ago) link

zs, a few hadokens and a contra guy backflipping through the midst would be a nice touch too

lol wtf is jon snow gonna do, h8 jon sno, h8 the wall

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 14:11 (nine years ago) link

actually the wall is v cool but the people there are unchill

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 14:11 (nine years ago) link

it takes a lot of work to be un"chill" at the wall

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 9 June 2014 14:13 (nine years ago) link

This is the first time the Wall has been fun! Loved this episode probably because it was virtually all action and low on development of characters I don't care about.

Matt DC, Monday, 9 June 2014 14:19 (nine years ago) link

If Samwell hasn't died by now he probably isn't going to but come the fuck on.

Matt DC, Monday, 9 June 2014 14:20 (nine years ago) link

i dont really care for action really and that action wasnt too good imo, it was pretty stilted and like too linear, the show and shows in general have a hard time being cinematic when they need to, maybe not a big enough budget

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 14:21 (nine years ago) link

the giant is lifting the door... he is still lifting the door

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 14:36 (nine years ago) link

looking forward to whatever madness they have ready for the finale tho

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 14:36 (nine years ago) link

yeah this was not exactly Kurosawa, I got a little bored but the wall scythe thing was lol and oh surprise surprise Ygritte's dead

Οὖτις, Monday, 9 June 2014 15:29 (nine years ago) link

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 9 June 2014 15:58 (nine years ago) link

From a fight choreo POV, I actually dug the Jon vs. the (heh heh) Head Thenn fight -- did not get a sense of HUEG that dude was till then -- way more than Mtn Vs. Viper. I dunno if the Mtn's sword was too heavy for the Halfthor or if he was too uncoordinated to swing it convincingly, but it was a very bumbling fight. Big Thenn Whoever though was swinging that axe like a born MF, it was a lot more dynamic and convincing, plus it had the benefit of not having a disgusting climax.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Monday, 9 June 2014 17:02 (nine years ago) link

yeah, Yuri Kolokolnikov is gargantuan.

yeah agree the mountain didn't seem as menacing as Head Thenn. tho I supposed part of the point was for Oberyn to own him a bit before it got to his head.

ryan, Monday, 9 June 2014 17:12 (nine years ago) link

the mountain wasnt actually that cool hes just a piece of shit bully

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 17:13 (nine years ago) link

Hah. GOT is the only tv show where someone gets a hammer through the skull and it's not a disgusting climax at all.

Dreamland, Monday, 9 June 2014 17:17 (nine years ago) link

Did anyone else yell out HAMMERTIME, BITCH

kinder, Monday, 9 June 2014 20:58 (nine years ago) link

Wall scythe was the best bit too

kinder, Monday, 9 June 2014 20:59 (nine years ago) link

The whole thing could have been easily confused for a Metalocalypse episode

Evan, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:06 (nine years ago) link

yeah there was something v videogamey about it that made me care less

Οὖτις, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:06 (nine years ago) link

scythe is a major reason. I think it would have been cooler looking if that scythe was all rusted out for being in that wall all this time (presumably unused).

Evan, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:07 (nine years ago) link

I had fun with the episode. Nothing particularly bothered me about it honestly.

Evan, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:08 (nine years ago) link

climbing up the wall seems like a bad plan, especially at the exact point where all the crows are, especially after declaring ur gonna do it by lighting a big fire

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:09 (nine years ago) link

also not coordinating w the giants attempting to open the gate

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:10 (nine years ago) link

not so sure abt this mance guys leadership ability

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:11 (nine years ago) link

how cool a name is mance rayder though

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 9 June 2014 21:11 (nine years ago) link

when they voted for king beyond the wall I'm sure it sealed his victory.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 9 June 2014 21:12 (nine years ago) link

yeah thats prob why hes in charge

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:13 (nine years ago) link

no wonder u wildlings cant even build a house

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:13 (nine years ago) link

They even have a Maester Morbius complaining bitterly about his policies.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Monday, 9 June 2014 21:14 (nine years ago) link

The wall scythe was really cool.
My biggest complaint is there wasn't nearly enough dog-killing-humans action. A further quibble is that they seemed weirdly slow to set the giants and mammoths on fire.

Happy to see more of Gilly (two seasons ago when I was less a fan of the show, I was considering only watching to see more Hannah Murray, I love her). Hope Sam gets lucky with her.

Does that leader of the night's watch guy remind any of you of Father Jack from Father Ted?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:45 (nine years ago) link

Also, why didn't Jon take his wolf with him to see Mance?

schwantz, Monday, 9 June 2014 21:48 (nine years ago) link

ahahaha yes
