That was lovely, Nick.

I would be well up for a PayDayFAP but unfortunately it is still ten days away from payday, so it won't be tonight. Instead I shall sit at home and do nowt. Now where's that "happy with your social life?" thread.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 21 October 2005 15:45 (eighteen years ago) link

Also, I just work round the corner from you meeja types now, so any post-work old-man-tastic pint-drinking would be most welcome.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 21 October 2005 18:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I second the post work old man Fap. Work at Skypark, so I can be at any of the meeja land boozers within twenty minutes. Being a temp every Friday is payday, so I'm flexible.

Stew (stew s), Friday, 21 October 2005 19:14 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, I'm going to be an extra in a Belle & Seb BBC special. Anyone else joining in the twee fun?

Stew (stew s), Friday, 21 October 2005 19:15 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't dress up on request

I had a french tutor in glasgow for a while. His name was bertrand and he was belgian. He was really great. I think I´ve lost his phone number though. If you go into the modern languages building there will be lots of notices up about people giving french lessons, and much much cheaper than the alliance francaise.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 21 October 2005 21:12 (eighteen years ago) link

but grimly where was that? govan, govanhill, shawlands?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 21 October 2005 21:18 (eighteen years ago) link

Near that dodgy kebab shop you're forcing us to go to?

(Please tell everyone, for a laugh, that it was in Battlefield. The ironing, etc)

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 21 October 2005 21:19 (eighteen years ago) link

it was RIGHT OUTSIDE THE KEBAB SHOP IN BATTLEFIELD, yes!

(or is it langside? i've lived here for five years and nobody seems able to tell me where one starts and the other ends.)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 October 2005 21:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Langside is where the college is, Battlefield is where that daft wee restaurant on the traffic island is. They are across the road from each other though, and I have no idea where they extend to from there.

I was in Langside Jobcentre the other day, which is on Battlefield Road. And right between the college and the stupid wee restaurant. Perhaps it is the dividing point between Langside, Battlefield and whatever else is that way.

Sorry to hear someone popped a cap in your bus Simon.

Dave D and I years ago decided we would like to go to work in one of these:

Ailsa, you can tell your other half that he is right, I am capable of organisation sometimes. I have booked a table for 10 at 8pm on 11th November. The list so far looks like this:

Me
Stet
Grimly Fiendish
Ally C
Ailsa
Mr Ailsa

Who else? I guess I can up the numbers if necessary, as long as I don't leave it too late. Any more takers?

Mr and Mrs Onimo are probables, we just need to arrange a babysitter.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 07:37 (eighteen years ago) link

Whereabouts is this taking place?

scotstvo (scotstvo), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh, and the 11th, like the last time, is the day before a Scotland match, so no excuses this time Ailsa.

scotstvo (scotstvo), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Koshkemeer on the Southside.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Are you coming out to play, scotsvo?

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:53 (eighteen years ago) link

No excuses for what, exactly?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 16:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Also, looking at the people going out, are we like a dinner party where we've set Grimly and Ally C up on a surreptitious blind date?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 16:07 (eighteen years ago) link

Not AGAIN.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 16:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Not excuses for not going, of course! I may come out and play that night. Mark me in for a might-do.

scotstvo (scotstvo), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 16:37 (eighteen years ago) link

Woo, cheap(ish) tickets for Scotland game on sale next Friday. I therefore think we should move the meal back to the Saturday so I don't have to venture south of the river two days in a row.

(casually ignoring the fact that I live south of the river anyway)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 17:06 (eighteen years ago) link

I think Saturday might be the Winchester Club.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 17:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Only joking about switching day. Anyway, I have now found out that the Scotland game is on the telly. So, hmmm, tough decision, hike over to the south side for the second time in two days and spend £12 on standing in the freezy cold watching Scotland get their arses kicked by teh 'merkins, or spend £12 on nice booze in a warm pub whilst watching Scotland getting their arses kicked by teh 'merkins. Oh, what shall I do?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 18:08 (eighteen years ago) link

The former would be more character-building.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 18:09 (eighteen years ago) link

If by "character-building" you mean "shite", then yes, it would.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 18:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Seeing Sleater-Kinney have cancelled, I'm in!
Haven't been down Battefield way in a while. What's the best tube/low level station to get this Partick resident to the restaurant?

Stew (stew s), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Train to Queen's Park. Perhaps a pre-meal city centre pint would be in order for people who don't know where they are going?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:29 (eighteen years ago) link

i'll stand on top of the bandstand at queen's park and guide you in with those flag things.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:36 (eighteen years ago) link

We'll all go to the pub and laugh at you. Suit yourself.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:40 (eighteen years ago) link

watching Scotland getting their arses kicked by teh 'merkins. Oh, what shall I do?

Go out, get thrashed and do your duty to the Tartan Army. Easy! Easy!

scotstvo (scotstvo), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:46 (eighteen years ago) link

City centre pint sounds like a good idea Ailsa.

The Belle & Seb TV recording was fun. Hopefully you'll be able to spot me in the crowd shots with my big stripy scarf on. Played 8 new songs which were pretty sweet, although I'm not sure I heard anything to match the best stuff from Dear Catastrophe Waitress (ie Stay Loose and Wrapped Up In Books). They've got a nice wistful ballad called Mornington Crescent and one that sounds like Jean Genie and has Stevie playing a ROCK geetar solo. Well, as ROCK as B&S can be... There's also a few swears in the new song. What is the world coming to?
Disappointingly the Beeb only gave us orange juice and water though. When I was in the audience for Trial By Night at Grampian studios a few years back we got wine and snacks!

Stew (stew s), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 21:01 (eighteen years ago) link

That's because you would have to be pissed to be in any way involved in Trial By Night. God, that was horrendous television (of course, I watched it every week).

Were Belle and Sebastian all 70s-ed up as well? There are people complaining on s*n*st*r that Belle and Sebastian are wrong to start dictating what sort of style of clothes and hair their fans can and can't wear, as if they've gone down the route of creating some sort of Stepford Fan rather than, you know, asking extras in a TV show to dress appropriately for the TV show.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 21:08 (eighteen years ago) link

hopefully I will LIVE in glasgow by 11/11

this should make the south side venture much more viable

c7n (Cozen), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 21:13 (eighteen years ago) link

Belle & Seb were dressed in their normal manner, so kinda 70s I suppose. Stuart had his stripey school blazer on, Mick had an excellent printed shirt, Stevie was in black as always ;) Richard was the only "modern" one, along with the sk8r boi sax player. Thing is most Belle & Seb fans look 70s anyway. It wasn't especially strict, they just wanted it to look a bit retro, hence using one of the older studios in Queen Margaret Drive. I defied the no trainers rule by wearing my converse - well, they're more authentically 70s than most shoes. The dressing up was fun anyway. Can't wait until Halloween Pop League.
