Yeah it was really corny

Think a big reason for the show's success so far has been its po-faced realpolitik grimness

As the show gets more and more fantastical with skeletons and giants it gets harder to maintain that tone, or rather you start wondering if that'll spillover to the other storylines

do we know why stannis went all the way up to the wall to kill some wildlings? was he hoping they'd surrender to him and he could put them in his army? it seems like a waste of time + resources honestly...

they did a reminder/spoiler in the 'previously on' section. he did not go there to kill wildlings per se.

It's explained more in the books - Maester Aemon sent crows to all the kings explaining their sitch at the Wall and only Stannis responded (because of 'duty')

I asked a bookreader friend about the process of turning into white walkers. I think there is supposed to be some kind of white walker interaction with the corpse before it can be a zombie??

Cause if not... where exactly is the border that decides whether corpses become zombies or not? Maybe it's the wall? Kind of vague though. More complicated than walking dead rules.

turning into zombies I should have said

"white here while we walk all over you" --the white walkers

white walkers are a separate bunch of dudes from the zombies/wights i.e. reanimated corpses. it is implied that the walkers have to touch the corpses to make them wights but who knows, maybe that shouldn't be read so literally.

we haven't witnessed the process in action afaicr. altho the show helpfully showed us where new walkers come from, which the books have thus far neglected to

why don't the wildlings build a huge catapault for themselves and parachutes that they can yank the cord on when they pass over the wall
