Yeah he's a smart dude. But his disappearance is a giveaway, no? At least make him much more of a suspicion.

Actually I think just as he's about to leave the docks, he realizes that he's out in public wearing his Varys clothes and thus so easy for spies to notice that he figures, "Ooops, better get scarce."

Yeah it was really corny
Think a big reason for the show's success so far has been its po-faced realpolitik grimness
As the show gets more and more fantastical with skeletons and giants it gets harder to maintain that tone, or rather you start wondering if that'll spillover to the other storylines

do we know why stannis went all the way up to the wall to kill some wildlings? was he hoping they'd surrender to him and he could put them in his army? it seems like a waste of time + resources honestly...
― Mordy, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:36 (nine years ago) link
they did a reminder/spoiler in the 'previously on' section. he did not go there to kill wildlings per se.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:37 (nine years ago) link
It's explained more in the books - Maester Aemon sent crows to all the kings explaining their sitch at the Wall and only Stannis responded (because of 'duty')
― 龜, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:38 (nine years ago) link
prob wanted to check out what was going on at the wall after that warning
― lag∞n, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:38 (nine years ago) link
stannis is so unchill i hate him
There's that scene where Davos reads something to Stannis after hanging out with his daughter iirc
Thought it would have been cool and funny if Ygritte had become a white walker right as Jon Snow was about to burn her corpse
― 龜, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:39 (nine years ago) link
xp they see something in the flames too
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:40 (nine years ago) link
I asked a bookreader friend about the process of turning into white walkers. I think there is supposed to be some kind of white walker interaction with the corpse before it can be a zombie??
Cause if not... where exactly is the border that decides whether corpses become zombies or not? Maybe it's the wall? Kind of vague though. More complicated than walking dead rules.
― Evan, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:55 (nine years ago) link
turning into zombies I should have said
"white here while we walk all over you" --the white walkers
― lag∞n, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:56 (nine years ago) link
white walkers are a separate bunch of dudes from the zombies/wights i.e. reanimated corpses. it is implied that the walkers have to touch the corpses to make them wights but who knows, maybe that shouldn't be read so literally.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:10 (nine years ago) link
Yeah I knew they were distinct- but the "it is implied that the walkers have to touch the corpses to make them wights but who knows" rules I was unsure of.
― Evan, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:15 (nine years ago) link
we haven't witnessed the process in action afaicr. altho the show helpfully showed us where new walkers come from, which the books have thus far neglected to

no i mean if you think the plot is needlessly plodding around and wasting time NOW...well....this is what I consider the peppy parts still

I don't understand how Stannis got his armies onto the other side of the wall.
― Οὖτις, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:38 (nine years ago) link
They got on the 4:40 to Brighton

― Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 16 June 2014 15:41 (nine years ago) link
so Wildlings and zombies can't build boats?
― Οὖτις, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:44 (nine years ago) link
I mean why doesn't everyone just go around the wall?
Well they can kill a ship and then make it into a white walker or wight ship
― 龜, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:46 (nine years ago) link
Its not really a white walker anymore tho, more of a white 'floater'
― 龜, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:48 (nine years ago) link
why don't the wildlings build a huge catapault for themselves and parachutes that they can yank the cord on when they pass over the wall
― christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 16 June 2014 15:50 (nine years ago) link
If you want it spelled out tho, the Wildlings were fine with living above the wall until the white walkers came now they just wanna flee from the white walkers
Nobody goes from south of the Wall to above the wall because why would you
― 龜, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:51 (nine years ago) link
I just... why build a wall you can just sail around
― Οὖτις, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:55 (nine years ago) link
idk why I watch this show
