why don't the wildlings build a huge catapault for themselves and parachutes that they can yank the cord on when they pass over the wall

Remember when Ygritte thought the little windmill was a castle? I don't think the wildlings have advanced enough boat technology...

this episode was p good but I gotta say the show's two most sympathetic protagonists essentially running away from the action to parts unknown doesn't really bode well narratively...

I'm not worried about it lessening their roles or involvement in the conflicts myself.

i alwyas figured it was implicit that the responsibility/purpose of the nights watch folks at eastwatch-by-the-sea and at the shadow tower was to keep wildlings from going around the ends of the wall

the shadow tower isn't even at the ocean, theres just like a river and some hard-to-pass mountains or something on the west side of the wall. its dumb

sailing to attack somewhere is much much harder than advancing via land the wall makes sense ffs people

not to be picky but they wouldn't necessarily be attacking, just sailing.

i mean shit just sail around the great wall the oceans right there u idiots

the wall is more of a deterrent than a solution to the wildlings & its heavily implied that its original purpose wasn't to keep wildlings out, it was to keep worse stuff out. its a magical wall.

As far as I can tell, there is a watchtower to the east keeping an eye out for ships, and a lack of trees to the west, meaning getting a fleet would be really tough.

Yeah and after the white walkers went dormant for thousands of years it became repurposed and used to fight wildlings

Think a big reason for the show's success so far has been its po-faced realpolitik grimness

I'm not that into the realpolitik so much as the Arthurian legend filtered through the realpolitik. Feels kinda fresh and mythical at the same time.

idk this finale, and maybe the whole season have just made me realize that it's just going to drag on for soooooooooo long

like all I want is for arya to see jon snow or bran (and vice versa) and none of that is ever going to happen

In this respect they're being very faithful to the show, now you know how the readers feel.

So what's the deal w Shae? In the books is it clear what her true feelings for Tyrion are?

She's a much shallower and more nakedly opportunistic person in the books, but that's being filtered through Tyrion's POV. That said, I don't think that GRRM really does a lot of interesting stuff with unreliable narrators (with one exception that the show hasn't explored at all).

That was an element missing from the show
