i haven't been to the getty villa, but the getty on the 405 is lovely.

Neil Patrick Haggerty (get bent), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 19:37 (nine years ago) link

The Villa is also nice, but visit before Europe reclaims all its plundered antiquities.

nickn, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 22:52 (nine years ago) link

both nice, but if you have time for only one, see the 405.

fact checking cuz, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 22:53 (nine years ago) link

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 5 July 2014 02:46 (nine years ago) link

both iirc

and Cinefamily definitely holds a few hundred - if you get there early enough, though, you can get a sofa in the front, not just a regular seat

(a couple of times last year I was non-early enough to end up on a folding stool in the aisle)

I hope all the "Los Angeles Apocalypse" stock photo collections get updated with that one.

Taking the Coaster up this morning... what's with this 89 degrees shit?

I'm only going on information received (though plan to conduct my own research in Oct), but am bemused at this prejudice against a slow-roasted lamb leg or tender kangaroo loin!

the present-day Groundlings any good?

I didn’t go to Groundlings (or IO West) on my passes through Hollywood last year (saw big queues outside the Groundlings though), but looking at stuff this week: there’s Paul F Tompkins’ monthly Varietopia show at Largo on Saturday night, Reid Scott off of Veep appearing at a current-affairs-comedy-quiz-show at Meltdown, Wil Anderson & Dan Harmon & Sam Simmons & Moshe Kasher at a Prompter show at UCB, Marc Maron doing both rooms at the Store, and I would have gone to The Smartest Man In The World free at Bar Lubitsch on Tuesday night.

boney tassel (sic), Friday, 11 July 2014 02:53 (nine years ago) link

xpost -- Damn, if I weren't getting ready to head north for a week on Saturday morning I would be there, but I gotta use Friday night to pack, clean, etc. Best to everyone! Another time!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 11 July 2014 02:56 (nine years ago) link

yeah sic, i essentially dont know any of those ppl

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Friday, 11 July 2014 09:18 (nine years ago) link

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Friday, 11 July 2014 09:24 (nine years ago) link

The best comedy show in town is the free one at the Downtown Independent every Tuesday: http://sleepawaycampcomedy.com

boney tassel (sic), Friday, 11 July 2014 13:16 (nine years ago) link

ugh, got sort of sickish just these last 2 hours after huge lunch of sandabs and lamb kidneys at M&F -- probably not their fault -- but I can't have drinks tonight. Sorry!

Excuse my street team pr for a friend's movie:

August 14
7:30 p.m.
The Silent Movie Theater
611 N. Fairfax Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90036

Hosted by: Don’t Knock the Rock

Master documentarian Jeff Krulik will make his magnificent return to Los Angeles with his latest blockbuster, Led Zeppelin Played Here, which digs deep into the mystery of the classic rock group playing a micro-venue in Maryland. Did the band really play? Or is the tale just a hallucinogenic myth conjured up by pranksters?

Krulik will be in attendance and will participate in a post-screening Q&A session hosted by musican and actor Michael Des Barres.

our rent just went up $45 (they can't gouge us tho, it's a rent control building).

one month passes...

My sister and I are trying to decide whether to take the VIP Paramount studio tour (4 hours) or the regular tour (2 hours). Does anyone have any experience with either?

Virginia Plain, Monday, 20 October 2014 19:30 (nine years ago) link

The regular tour was OK and long enough for me; not much emphasis on vintage stuff, obviously. I don't know what the VIP adds, but if it's to do with contemporary production, I wouldn't care.

Too bad about the Cat & Fiddle. Kim Gardner of The Creation was running it for a long time until he died in the early 2000s.
