Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene, notorious for its reserve of vintage equipment, alongside longtime collaborator/iconic sound-sage Billy Barnett, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering, Clearing The Path To Ascend is undoubtedly the crowning achievement for a band whose journey now nears two decades of creating music as commanding as it is cathartic.
Could be hyperbole but I love the buildup.

first listen thru i found it kinda tedious, maybe i just need more of a lock-in on the hypnotic elements. but when they get all neurosisy and substitute anguished bellowing for whatever else they've got going, i find it hard to maintain an interest.

i can't believe how great Great Cessation is. like I love all their albums that I'd bought previously but I bought this one at the show and it's just so supremely dark and savage, but constructed so well, with some really pretty passages in there.

saw them last night, they were great and really immersiveunfortunately there were some dickheads trying to mosh (to yob?!) and they squashed the vibe temporarily

I saw Yob last year with one of my best friends, who had a mental breakdown earlier that day and almost missed the show. She started crying during "Our Raw Heart", and then went up to Mike to take a picture with him after and he said "I think you need one of these" and hugged her.
He is such a dope guy.
seeing them in Nawlins next week.

they played my favorite Yob song (all 20+ min of "Catharsis") when I saw them last week -- i could not be more grateful to have heard this superlong song performed live and in person. Yob is generous!

Wearing the shirt as I type. I am so glad I went to this show, so grateful for this band's existence. Beauty in Falling Leaves was breathtaking live.
What an odd bill though. Not that I'm complaining, Voivod is the shit.

Beauty in Falling Leaves was one that I was sad that didn't get played at last year's show so I'm hoping to hear it.
Scheidt has one of the scariest death growls ever. it's so primal

Great Cessation is helping with my bleak mood.
i once cried to "The Lie That is Sin" live so it fits.

seriously, though, can tell Mike was in a bad headspace on this one.
I bought that one a while back and never really listened to it enough... must put it on!!
