I get a bit of a broken social scene vibe from them .. It's a welcome feeling

the new one is the most complex yet but feels very slapdash and pitchfork bait-y... not my favorite.

Yeah it sounds like they could be trying to get a spot opening for Passion Pit or something but on the other hand that also makes it kind of a fun summer record!

Ha, was just going to write that they remind me of the latest Passion Pit! Which I also completely loved, and thought was unfairly maligned. Also: Autre ne Veut at his most manic, there is definitely an r'n'b inspiration on tracks like Crushin and Never Nothing.

I heard Passion Pit, too. And loved that last Passion Pit record.
I like this ASDIG album but haven't quite fallen in love with it. We'll see.

Hoping they tour Europe. Is there much talk on here about the current album?
― mmmm, Saturday, 27 September 2014 09:37 (nine years ago) link
A bit.
For me it was the first half of the record that I got into first. The sequence of the first four tracks (minus the opener, though the remix of it is yards better) is great. The second half requires a bit more patience but ends up having some really nice moments too.

I think it's aoty for me, so far. Keep listening to it, keep loving it.

from 2014 Favorite Unheralded Albums:
Great thread. Speaking of A Sunny Day In Glasgow, I really enjoy Jen Goma's guesting on the (I guess under-heralded?) Deluxe Edition of The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart's Days of Abandon (they've also got Kelly Pratt of Beirut in there, but think Goma sings most if not all of the guest leads). Anyway, her bonus tracks vocals, plus her performances on the basic first-edition sequence, really help to sell me on the whole thing (the dude vocals seem better when you've got more alternatives), and the rhythm section is pretty toned for "dream-pop" or whatever you call this stuff.

And with a 4AD/TeenBeat-esque album cover. Thanks for the alert. Jen Goma was a great addition to the last Pains album and I've always liked Kurt Feldman's other projects even better.
"Ashes Grammar" was my album of the year, easy, in 2009, wish I'd been here to praise it. And when I saw ASDIG live last summer, at an unfortunate venue, barely an audience, me one of only four people standing by the stage, it was still probably the best performance I saw all year. Joyous, genuine, awesome--your words are apt.

3/5 of the group was at Union Pool a few nights ago for the Roman a Clef album release party. Ben got on stage to play the ending solo on one of the songs, and Chris Georges got up to do the same on "Roman Clay."
RaC also played at Cake Shop on the LES a few days before. So cool to see them in such a small venue, and they sounded great. Kurt seems to have many talents and drumming is another one to add to the list.
