There's a really great song on the deluxe edition of the album (on Spotify as well) called Art-Hounds that's as enjoyable as any of his 90s singles. Dunno why it's not on the album proper.

Hmmm. Still too many ooh-hoo-hoos where lyrics should be. He rarely seems to get beyond an idea for a title and a first verse these days.

i'm not a man is awful. the lyrics are excruciating and there is no tune. the only interesting vocal part is ripped directly from a superior b-side of his called the public image. I think he could have replaced this with any of the bonus tracks and made a better album. the minute odd of silence fares well in comparison to the rest of the track.

Yeah, I quite like the beginning until the drums start banging and then it just becomes ugly.

the bass solo is fab

I think his voice sounds good on this album and music-wise this is alright, better than the last two, not as good as Quarry, maybe kind of like those weird post- Vauxhall albums I never got into. . . but it's awfully long, isn't it?

haha so weird

Eyeball Kicks, Tuesday, 7 April 2015 11:30 (nine years ago) link

Feel like I'm missing something. That's an un-Morrisseyesque video ... and not in a good way.

What a compelling combination of cell phone video of a rehearsal and outtakes from the Blurred Lines video shoot.

I like it

PaulTMA, Tuesday, 7 April 2015 22:06 (nine years ago) link

The Video is "OK", the song is not terrific though.

Finally getting around to this album in preparation for his show in Durham, NC(!) on Monday. I like it! Pretty strong all the way through.

On this last listen I was especially impressed with "Istanbul", which has really effective lyrics that strike me as quite unlike anything else he's ever written.

I think its his strongest for ooh.

Then again, he's like Weller in that I can be impressed by the album but end up not caring if I ever her it again.
