possibly relevant from today:
Bruschi: “I’m giving him four [more seasons].” Brady: “Four?” Bruschi: “Four is realistic.” Brady: “You’re out of your mind.” ...“I made a commitment to myself because I love the game, I want to play for a long time. There’s nothing else I’d rather do. I make a commitment in the season and the offseason to do that. It’s a fun thing for me. It’s not like working out is a very a hard thing, coming out and playing football in the middle of May is a hard thing. I love doing it. “Hopefully I do it for a long time. Hopefully for longer than the four years over here that my buddy wants me to play.”

i guess i agree with the sentiment that no one is going to take over the afc anytime soon, and i don't see new england falling out of the leading pack in the say 4 years they have with brady, so they will be in contention. it's not hard to imagine two conference champ games from which one super bowl appearance.
i feel like there is one more.

kind of remarkable that even the 3 SBs he lost were all super close games that could've flipped on a single play
don't really see them keeping pace with KC but who fuckin knows.

now AP says that the Bucs say that he hasn't made his decision and a local station talked to his dad and his dad says he's not retiringmaybe Schefter got bad info?
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 29 January 2022 22:08 (two years ago) link
I feel like Tom got mad that he didn't make the make the announcement on his own accord and is gonna wind up doing it anyway.
Jeff Darlington also talked to the same sources, hard to believe two people would be hoodwinked easily on this.
that and retirement is an easy thing to deny initially when you're not under the gun to definitively say so.
who knows though! I hope a sports book lets you bet on this.

From @NFLNetwork: Tom Brady does intend to retire, per several people close to him. The pushback appears to be based on timing, rather than his eventual decision. pic.twitter.com/GSTqDkKcjF— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 29, 2022

usually when Schefter reports something I figure it's as good as official since he basically just sits back and transcribe his text messages

love how the dumb Twitterati bullied Darlington and Schefter all weekend only to eat crow, and then now they're moving the goalposts by saying they didn't have a 'right' to scoop his retirement.
god I wish I'd placed a huge bet on this over the weekend. couldn't find a sportsbook that was offering it anymore after Schefter's bombshell though :)

Wonder if we'll ever see a run like this again.
He wasn't even someone who was necessarily lights out right out of the gate. He was an effective QB in a ball control offense initially, became more of the center of the offense his second year but hadn't yet reached top tier until 2003 when he became who he'd be the rest of his career.
And there were so many years he put up numbers with third tier receivers, he was the only continuity the offense needed.
The late career renaissance was nuts too, like we even itt had kinda felt like he'd won his 3 and after the two Giants losses, their window had closed, but nope
― I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE DIAPER GOT LOOSE (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 1 February 2023 17:52 (one year ago) link
i can't imagine a similar run, it's crazy to look at the QBs who were drafted well after him and how many of them have been enjoying retirement for a few years now. Romo, Cutler, Luck, Eli, Roethlisberger, Bradford, Sanchez, Palmer, Leftwich, Sexy Rexy G
― omar little, Wednesday, 1 February 2023 17:59 (one year ago) link
To put things in perspective, during Brady's actual rookie season (where he only threw three passes) , Troy Aikman was still in the league, playing his final season

probably not in the NFL, it's just so hard to not have the cumulative effects of injuries weigh you down once you get to 39 or so. in the NBA I guess LeBron is kind of there, he's already at the stage where NBA players are telling him "hey my Dad played against you"
― frogbs, Wednesday, 1 February 2023 18:21 (one year ago) link
Hmm yeah Brady played in the league with both Patrick Surtain and Patrick Surtain Jr among others
