Probably something from Amnesiac. Or, more likely, a pop track that's on heavy MTV and radio rotation. Chances are it's "Survivor" or Nelly Furtardo's unavoidable ornithological ditty. Those weren't by choice, however. *My* "Pyramid Song" experience: During a holiday, on the beach, at night, slightly intoxicated, with headphones on: magical. Almost.

Also: Sitting in my hotel room at night with Loveless, particularly "To Here Knows When", playing at very low levels. Outside, I could hear both the crashing ocean waves and disco club dance beats ( They had a small club inside the hotel ). Occasionally, the tones of Loveless would synchronize with the sounds emanating from outside my window and the perceived magnitude of the music would increase dramatically. Astounding.

I forgot about Is That Your Bitch? That's the best song ever, besides the other songs that are better. I've been listening to Speedballin' a lot since I got the Tomb Raider CD, and on the Outkast tip I've probably heard Ms. Jackson about 8 trillion times this year.

Ally, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Daft Punk's "Discovery" album has been on heavy rotation since I got it. Other tunes: "Peaches and cream"-112, "Raise it up"-Slum Village, "The Boston rag"-Steely Dan, "The jack"-AC/DC, "Cause cheap is how I feel"-Cowboy Junkies,"Cold as ice"-MOP, "Just step s'ways"- The Fall...loads more

Past, Present and Future by the Shangri-Las. I just listen to it over and over again, trying to find some imperfection. Next? Probably 'She's Got You' by Timi Yuro.

Nick, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Oooh, talking of Timo Yuro, "It'll never be over for me" I've probably played most this year.

Dave: Have you seen Lightning Bolt live? Oh my god!

Kris, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Emerson Quartet's recording of the Debussy string quartet.

Mr. Mark Lerner, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Kris: You bet your ass, "oh my god"! Saw them @ their hometurf, and got swallowed up by an honest-to-god MOSH PIT. People were flying all over the place, climbing up poles, going crazy. In CT, though, the fans were more reserved and respectful, which was a bit of a disappointment. But THEY (the Bolt) most certainly were NOT.

I've rolls of film with pictures from both shows I need to develop one of these days. Oh, yeah.

David Raposa, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I saw them at some artspace in south Boston, and again at a friend's house in Davis, CA. EVERYONE was going crazy both places. They are really fucking loud.

Kris, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Fuck. I only saw the last three posts and thought Kris and Dave were talking about the Emerson playing Debussy. Would that ever fucking rock.

Josh, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I've seen the Emerson Quartet, but it was Mozart and I must've been 10. The crowd was not going crazy, from what I recall.

Kris, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Well, that was Mozart, not Debussy. Duh.

Josh, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

"Channel Heaven" and "Jonestown Mascara" by the Lollies. (I'm trying to learn the bassline to Channel Heaven. Jonestown Mascara, I have no excuse for. I just really, really like the spacy noise.)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I wonder.

I've been playing the Doobie Brothers' "What a Fool Believes" an unhealthy amount this year. I've been playing Waltari's cover of "A Forest" a lot recently also, but I only got it a few weeks ago.

Vinnie, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Addicted to Bass by Puretone. So much that at one point didn't know WHY I liked it.

Deftones' "Back To School".

Daver, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Big Tymers - "Still Fly." Words cannot convey how much I like this song. I like it when I'm drunk, I like it when I'm sober. I like it in the car, I like it on the bus. I like it on MP3, I like it on CD. I even turn up the radio commercial for Hood Rich 'cause it has the beat playing in the background.

adam, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

The "Agnus Dei" from Martin's Mass For Double Choir, surprisingly enough. Second place is the "Sanctus" from the same piece and third place is "Man Fading" by Kenna.

I don't have a clue, but I'm gonna lie and say Toya's "No Matta What (Party All Night)" in the hope that someone'll agree, and I won't be alone in my NMW(PAL)-wuv. (Actually, I vaguely remember someone else liking this, too- was it you, Keiko?)(oh, and I think Tim F said it was alright.)(Improper use of parentheses ©Mike Daddino)

I came late to Boards of Canada. Must have listened to "Everything You Do Is a Balloon" 20-30 times altogether on repeat in three sessions.

Reading through this I'm like "Wow, people are still listening to Daft Punk and Missy every day? Weird." Then I noticed the date...

Most played in 2002 is probably "So Now" by Herbert.

Hey, I listened to Daft Punk today.

So far this year I've probably played Can's "I Want More" the most. Lord knows why. The re-recording of Japan's "Adolescent Sex" and the Avengers' "We Are The One" are pretty high up there, too.

My Last.Fm last 6 months is made up solely of Miami Horror and Vashti Bunyan songs, which leads me to believe I must have fallen asleep or left the house with these two albums playing.

Top song of the last year is Joni Mitchell's 'People's Parties', which is great and I love. Overall is 'Bats In The Attic' by King Creosote & Jon Hopkins, but I think that comes from a 2011 error when Last.Fm was scrobbling songs multiple times over.

Conclusion - Last.FM is pretty useless.

(no offence to people) (dog latin), Thursday, 30 July 2015 11:19 (eight years ago) link

Last.FM chart reflects my perfectly well-adjusted personality with a tie between:

Dinah Washington – September In The Rain
The Fall – New Face In Hell

In actuality though the top songs would be the soundtrack to whatever I'm editing. My poor neighbours.

Yeah I have to keep vetting my Last.FM because it has an app that automatically posts my top songs of the week, and it's always something like 'Disco Zhivago - AOB v1.1 310715'

I killed off my last.fm account months ago, so I have no real means of tracking things anymore. However, I'd be surprised if my most-listened-to song so far this year isn't "Delirious" by Susanne Sundfør.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 31 July 2015 08:50 (eight years ago) link

She's good that Susanne Sundfør. I was listening to her yesterday.
