finished watching the miami series from 2012

in all of these, the coaches mostly appear to be reasonable people, although the editing surely helps to humanize them

the only exception would be the ex-military miami offensive line coach who seems like an authoritarian shithead

theres a couple of scenes with jonathan martin where he is alluded to as being weird, not the right personality etc

finally catching up on the new season

kroy bierman is married to kim stupidface jeeezus that is terrible
lol @ how much camera time she gobbles up promoting her own dumb show

that clay matthews-looking north dakota kid needs that hat knocked out off him

idk who that woman is but she is dreadful and her husband seems like the dumbest farmboy alive

the last episode you could sense the fear in his voice as boldewijn went down injured, though it looks like he has a future somewhere

the personnel manager type in every series who makes the dreaded 'this is x from the x organization, coach x would like to see you in his office' calls seems to be exactly the same person

probably a closet sadist

In NFL circles that guy is known as the "Turk"

^sad thing is that the Falcons need Bierman to play well this year so badly. The dude is utterly critical. Not sure what he married a reality show star for. It's not like Atlanta has a shortage of viable candidates for companionship.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 14:20 (nine years ago) link

yeah idk who that woman is, but she is clearly horrible

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 3 September 2014 14:23 (nine years ago) link

the special teams coach going off in the film room was simultaneously hilarious and appalling

the coaching staff are definitely the most interesting characters on the show

Brad C., Wednesday, 3 September 2014 14:51 (nine years ago) link

bierman's wife was in Desperate Housewives of Atlanta and became a 'star' through her antics etc, recorded a diiiiiire single called 'Don't be Tardy for the Party'

She was in 5 season of Desp Houswives and now has her own spinoff show called... Don't Be Tardy

u_u

I hate that I know any of this. (To clarify I have never watched a single episode of either show, I glean all of this just from The Soup)

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 15:29 (nine years ago) link

I love that Special Teams coach! He's awesome. And I want to play for Brian Cox, that dude is my platonic ideal of what a good coach would be like

This show is not helping my secret crush on Matty Ice.

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 15:32 (nine years ago) link

I never knew Ice swore so much. He always comes across as a goody too shoes in public.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 20:51 (nine years ago) link

Yeah I was kinda happy about that, imo. And I love that he was one of the first to show up for camp.

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 21:15 (nine years ago) link

fyi you must all refer to me as Prince Shembo from now on

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 21:24 (nine years ago) link

only bcz the name makes me lol

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 21:24 (nine years ago) link

Dont google Prince Shembo or you may be disappointed.

I havent watched last nite's episode, but my one takeaway from this season is that i hope to god Roddy White doesnt go into tv after his career ends. He's tiresome. Love him as a player though.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

I knew Roddy White was yappy on the field but hollllly shit he really just never shuts up, huh. He would drive me insane

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 22:07 (nine years ago) link

On Sept. 2 she received a text message from one of Shembo's friends, telling her, "Don't do anything you would regret. Messing with notre dame football is a bad idea."

Nothing less than the Spirit of the Age (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 22:09 (nine years ago) link

ugh I didn't know abt that Seeberg case

let's not mention his name again

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 22:42 (nine years ago) link

the only football player I would advise anyone to date would be Matt Saracen of Friday Night Lights and he is 100% fictional.

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 22:42 (nine years ago) link

lol

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 September 2014 05:40 (nine years ago) link

and can we talk abt Liev Schrieber narrating all these HBO sports things

he's so good. love the timbre of his voice

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 September 2014 05:42 (nine years ago) link

Ryan's SI shoot and refusal to take off his shirt because he's not as ripped as Kaepernick were lol-worthy ... He came over well in the series, ultra professional but nicer and goofier than I expected ... Maybe he's just smoother in front of cameras than some of the other guys

Brad C., Thursday, 4 September 2014 16:01 (nine years ago) link

that made me lol so hard

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 September 2014 16:08 (nine years ago) link

I think he definitely understands the publicity-angle of Hard Knocks maybe more than the younger guys. But I like to think that maybe he's just a good guy in general?

I loved that scene with the little kids after the game, that one kid losing his shit over the photo and the jersey signature.

It's corny but I like that there can still be moments like that for kids

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 September 2014 16:11 (nine years ago) link

Ryan is definitely a genuinely good guy.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 5 September 2014 01:15 (nine years ago) link

ryan has really won me over in these.

i'm on ep 4 and the jeff hawley pottery scene was so great.

i feel like everything jj watt does on camera that is not actual football is *for* the camera, way more than most guys I've seen on this show

idk maybe it's just me? but he seems like a giant poser dickwagon

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 14 September 2015 01:07 (eight years ago) link

they hoped for a lot of mileage from the rapport between him and wilfork but he entirely lacks the latter's good humour, though some of that might be the difference between a very good player and a great one with a commensurately high opinion of himself * and a developing personality cult

even his most basic repartee seemed to be processed via a rigid cost/benefit analysis of how it would further his position as alpha in all aspects

few of the other attempts to humanize players worked, eg the wide receiver who was trailed as an eccentric/livewire type in the space centre montage before he spoke nothing but shit, same for his undersized friend who barely appeared until he was cut by editor and team without giving any indication of why he was there in the first place

the head coach probably isn't an awful person but there's not a lot beyond that, the hilarity he found in the almost completely basic impression of himself by the rookie was fairly telling

Robert Kenedy Nunes do Nascimento (nakhchivan), Monday, 14 September 2015 01:33 (eight years ago) link

i don't dislike him that much but his thing is very calculated for sure.

i liked some of the fringe roster guys but i think it was telling that there was a semi-legit qb competition happening and they got no material out of it.

call all destroyer, Monday, 14 September 2015 01:34 (eight years ago) link

bill o'b kind of annoyed me at first then kind of won me over; but when i hear patriots fans around here talk about him as a successor to belichick i'm like noooo thanks

call all destroyer, Monday, 14 September 2015 01:36 (eight years ago) link

the absence of anything from the quarterbacks was probably partly because neither was interesting, and partly because they were both starting behind the resident deity at defensive end anyway

Robert Kenedy Nunes do Nascimento (nakhchivan), Monday, 14 September 2015 01:43 (eight years ago) link

yeah this season seemed to be more rookie based which is fine, but i would have liked more solid interactions from older players, even if it's just 1 or 2 yr vets
