I like "Time Has Come Today" -- partly because it's such an unlikely song for them. Love Joey's singing on it. And it has a goofy video. (For a band with basically zero hits, they made a lot of videos.)

OK, now it's time for our next category:
The Band
All you kids out there know them and love them and they're all Ramones -- but which one is the RAMONESEST? We asked our readers, and here's what they said!

That's right, Cub Scouts 'n' cretins, if you're looking for a member of at least one of the classic line-ups who is still actually breathing air and walking the earth -- Marky is your boy!

Is he still doing his satellite radio show? It was pretty good the few times I heard it.
I saw a Marky Ramone & The Invaders (?) show once, it was not that memorable. He's great on Richard Hell's Blank Generation though!

Yep. He's a good, powerful drummer. I understand why a lot of people prefer Tommy's spartan aesthetic, but Marky definitely gave them a fuller sound.

I understand the sentiment for Tommy given the timing of the poll, and probably some people knocked him down a notch for his politics, but imo 4th place for Johnny is not really fair.
― something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 26 August 2014 16:57 (nine years ago) link
My favorite Ramone is Marky solely because of Dust. Guy was/is a great drummer.
― Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 26 August 2014 16:58 (nine years ago) link
life isn't fair; i think Ronald Reagan said that.
I think it was seeing the Vincent Gallo quote on Johnny's grave statue that sunk him to fifth for me.
― son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 26 August 2014 17:04 (nine years ago) link
(xxpost) Same thought, even though I didn't vote in this part of the poll. In terms of important-to-the-band, Joey/Johnny/Dee Dee seem inseparable to me, Tommy slightly less so, simply by virtue of having been absent for so long. But I realize the category was favourite Ramone.

Ok, since we're down to the last two, I think that although Dee Dee is my favorite songwriter of the Ramones, I could see him flourishing in other bands, had the Ramones never existed, whereas Joey Ramone wouldn't have made sense in any other context but the Ramones and is the "Ramonesiest".
― how's life, Tuesday, 26 August 2014 17:27 (nine years ago) link
I don't know, wasn't Joey in some glam band before the Ramones? But yeah, one thing the documentary really showed was that they were mostly very dysfunctional people, sort of amazing they formed such a solid unit and held it together for so long.

My #1, "Now I Wanna Be a Good Boy," was the lowest #1--only one other vote. I hear so much in that song...it's one of my templates for power-pop; the melodic sadness of "Now I wanna run away from home/Now I wanna be on my own."

Here's my ballot. I had a lot of fun doing this, and thanks for the charming rollout!I guess All The Way is a deep cut that only I love; Psycho Therapy not placing was a genuine surprise.

a fellow "Mental Hell" voter!
― how's life, Saturday, 30 August 2014 16:43 (nine years ago) link
Mental Hell is one of my favorites of their 80s work. I tried to have one off of every album, but Halfway To Sanity was as far as I could get in their later work (I Wanna Live)-though I think Acid Eaters is great.
I had Howling At The Moon #2 as well how's life.
― campreverb, Saturday, 30 August 2014 17:30 (nine years ago) link
Yeah I hit every album thru Sanity. Could've gone for Pet Srmatary too. For a band with such an obvious early peak, they kept things interesting for a long time.

Oxfam record hunting yesterday, managed to find a great copy of "Its Alive" 2lp, and "Leave Home" a US pressing with "Carbona"
Alice, however, decided she wanted a copy of "Muddy Waters live at Newport"..
Kids, eh?

does anyone believe Scorsese will really direct this?

Adam Driver as Joey despite the muscles, I'd say.

It's tragic that Michael Shannon is at least a decade too old to play Dee Dee.

I'm going to leave this up for a couple of days and then delete it--19 seconds of me leading my grade 3 class on "Blitzkrieg Bop" for a school assembly. Luckily the music teacher caught some of it; I stupidly forgot to arrange for the whole thing to be filmed. Definitely on the shortlist of my teaching highlights.

The video for I Believe In Miracles had text scrolling along the top and bottom of the screen while the Ramones performed in the center. I had the idea to do this up as a poll, but midway through copying everything down, I realized it would be way too many options and I didn't want to do multiple polls. So I just decided to post it here.
