Odd that Locket Love didn't place ( unless I missed it)

Judy is my number one, largely for Tenenbaums reasons

From the Mark Prindle website comment section by user Nikus80 (similar things possibly posted to ILX as well):

"The Ramones usually used three chords. Okay, maybe four" - paraphrased from a lot of people.
Bullshit. Look:
Blitzkrieg Bop : A,D,E,B (ok, the B was used very little, but it was there)
Beat On The Brat: B, A, F#, E
Judy Is A Punk: Eb, Ab, Bb (ok, Judy has just 3)
I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend: E, A, B, C#m
Chainsaw: A, E, B, F#
Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue: A,G,F,E
I Don't Wanna Go Down To the Basement: E,B,D,A,C,G,F (SEVEN CHORDS!)
Loudmouth: A,E,B,G,D,C (SIX)
Havana Affair: B,G,A,F#,E
Listen To My Heart:D,A,E,G,C#m,B
53 & 3rd: E,D,A,G,B (which has some kind of key change (not EXACTLY, But the verse is played again 2 half-steps up))
Let's Dance: G,B,D,F,C
I Don't wanna walk around with you: E,G,A,D
Today your love, tomorrow the world: C,G,E,D,A

*Note:I got the chords from some webpage (I didn't bother to figure them out)*

So, for the debut only:
ONE song with three chords
Six Songs with four chords
Four Songs with five chords
Two songs with six chords
One song with seven chords

So, in the debut, they used 4.7 ((3 + 6 * 4 + 4 * 5 + 2 * 6 + 7)/ 14 = 4.7) chords for each song, round it up, and they used FIVE CHORDS per song.

That said, I think writing a good song with just three chords is hard as hell. With four, well, is not as hard, but it ain't easy.

That will be useful if I ever have to figure out again what songs are within my capability; just eliminate all the ones with a #.

I love 'em both. "Chewin' out a rhythm on my bubblegum."

But even though I had it at #2, I agree on Sheena as a Ramones OPO.

My #1, "Now I Wanna Be a Good Boy," was the lowest #1--only one other vote. I hear so much in that song...it's one of my templates for power-pop; the melodic sadness of "Now I wanna run away from home/Now I wanna be on my own."

Great job, great images.

Mental Hell is one of my favorites of their 80s work. I tried to have one off of every album, but Halfway To Sanity was as far as I could get in their later work (I Wanna Live)-though I think Acid Eaters is great.

I had Howling At The Moon #2 as well how's life.

campreverb, Saturday, 30 August 2014 17:30 (nine years ago) link

Yeah I hit every album thru Sanity. Could've gone for Pet Srmatary too. For a band with such an obvious early peak, they kept things interesting for a long time.

Oxfam record hunting yesterday, managed to find a great copy of "Its Alive" 2lp, and "Leave Home" a US pressing with "Carbona"

Alice, however, decided she wanted a copy of "Muddy Waters live at Newport"..

Kids, eh?

Adam Driver as Joey despite the muscles, I'd say.

two years pass...

I'm going to leave this up for a couple of days and then delete it--19 seconds of me leading my grade 3 class on "Blitzkrieg Bop" for a school assembly. Luckily the music teacher caught some of it; I stupidly forgot to arrange for the whole thing to be filmed. Definitely on the shortlist of my teaching highlights.

one year passes...

The video for I Believe In Miracles had text scrolling along the top and bottom of the screen while the Ramones performed in the center. I had the idea to do this up as a poll, but midway through copying everything down, I realized it would be way too many options and I didn't want to do multiple polls. So I just decided to post it here.
