i feel like this show is just trolling me now. Tell me I wasn't imagining that nina said Amanda's could be an 'Instagram Moment'. TELL ME THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

Amanda's looked like Catwoman ran through some old woman's bedroom and got tangled up in her negligee. It was fucking stupid, I don't get it and I have no idea why the judges keep falling over themselves over her.

Korina's material was gross. tbh I thought that on the runway her look didn't really showcase the necklace that well at all because a) the dress and the necklace were the same color, and b) all you could see was the damn jacket. It wasn't in keeping with the challenge. The dress looked fine without the jacket and up close it looked good with the necklace but the Chopard lady said she would put Sean's on the cover of the catalog! Isn't that what the challenge is about? I don't get it.

I mean, I think Sean's kind of a passive agressive weasel, and the dress overall was kind of expected but it was really beautifully made and did pretty much everything they asked for IN A DAY.

I have no idea why Kini didn't just rework the bodice of that dress when the cups wouldn't work...and neoprene. really dude. cmon.

and why do they keep doing 1-day red carpet/evening wear challenges. They're never going to get anything good out of those designers for something like that until they get at least 2 days.

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 5 September 2014 18:17 (nine years ago) link

The producers are probably making the judges plotz over Amanda, I was kind of loling at Nina's noncommittal praise, seeing how long she could go without offering an actual critical opinion and basically having to lie.

The producers also probably have longer-term plans for Korina Dimples -- they make troll her for the beginning of the season before making her an outright punching bag before she gets to redeem herself. I actually didn't hate the jacket, but goddamn I was surprised the judges only mentioned how heavy it looked when they were able to see it up close.

If this were a real design competition, they'd be giving them multiple days for more of these challenges, but I think the producers are hooked on the adrenaline and ~tearz~ and mad rushes at the end because EXCITING! TV needs beat out design needs.

I was thinking it was kind of gauche of Tim last episode to say to Char that he would've saved her if this were later in the season -- like, "Gee, thanks Tim, rmde" -- but good on him to admit the mistake. All the same, he seems to use his save for designers who seem well-liked in the workroom rather than designers who've shown a positive track record (thought maybe that's the point -- they need to find their pace before they start finding success).

And lol Zac was wearing boots with a heel this time.

Alexander is p terrible

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 9 September 2014 04:25 (nine years ago) link

I just felt embarrassed for him; it seems particularly cruel to keep him around at this point when he clearly will not come close to winning

Gay Fire Beautiful Dong (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 9 September 2014 11:58 (nine years ago) link

for real. he is drowning

Love Tim's sideways look during Emily's critique re: her look being too fetishy ("Then we know what's on their mind").

Hakeem Olajuwon Howard (Leee), Sunday, 14 September 2014 21:17 (nine years ago) link

I just watched this myself! V happy @ Sean's garment and Kini's win

Gay Fire Beautiful Dong (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 14 September 2014 21:30 (nine years ago) link

p cool challenge!

sean & kini did such great stuff this week. sad to see fade go but that dress was even sadder

korina's whatever it was just looked like those metal rings magicians use, so stupid. haaaated Amanda's stupid cleopatra tragedy, and i dont even know what the judges liked about sandhya's.

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 14 September 2014 21:34 (nine years ago) link

I don't know if "greatest runway ever" works, because it was definitely carried by Kini and Sean. If there were only one winner, I'd have given it to Kini, I think the reason being that his model didn't wear a bra, but also because of the flashier construction. Still, Sean's definitely earned the wow.

I liked Fade's (leaving aside the construction), but there was nothing avant-garde about it. With Veg on that tacky vinyl offense of Amanda's. I think Sandhya is getting the Patricia treatment (maybe she'll call Nina a Republican?): the producers are trolling us with the weird craft-worker (kraftwerker!) who's getting positioned as the undeserving and insensitive finalist.

Is this what happened to Andrae? http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2ggqdi/i_am_model_andreja_pejic_ask_me_anything/ckixc9y

Hakeem Olajuwon Howard (Leee), Wednesday, 17 September 2014 01:24 (nine years ago) link

On one hand, FINALLY, Sandhya is gone.

OTOH, OUCH. Maybe it was the editing but when she announced that she was eliminated and like, two designers out of eight got up to hug her, that was so harsh. Was she that bad of a person?

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Friday, 19 September 2014 03:32 (nine years ago) link

was mildly skeeved out @ posen manhandling the girl in the sweater to make sure the lines lined up but hey shes gotta learn abt hi fashion eventually

johnny crunch, Friday, 19 September 2014 11:14 (nine years ago) link

That garment was HOORRRRRIBLE but tbh I really did like Sandhya as a person

EMA Sumac (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 20 September 2014 04:18 (nine years ago) link

oh sandhya that pink. it made me sad
pepto bismol ahoy

i like her a lot. i think where she tripped herself up was her continual expectation that everyone was going to throw a parade over her designs every time. her confidence was so dependent on everyone around her, and when that wasn't given back to her it just started to seem more like delusional stubborness. idk

but i think it's also endemic of this kind of show. soft hearts are just skewers for the stiletto heel of fashion :)

OMG VegemiteGrrl, you watch PR too?
You really are my twin.

I just started watching it again after boycotting it when it moved to Lifetime.
Nobody knocks me out although I miss Fade's little Sprockets persona.

Season 2 will always always be the best and they will never ever top it.

The Velvet Fog called me a motherfucker (Sandy), Monday, 22 September 2014 06:08 (nine years ago) link

it's definitely not as good these days

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 22 September 2014 13:50 (nine years ago) link

Sandhya's wasn't the only designer with a onesie (ahem Sean "jumpsuit"), but gods, the peplums (pepla?) and the pink and the snaps in the back??

I personally didn't like her, but I do think that she was ostracized partly for cultural reasons. I also wonder how much of Tim's "I don't get you at all" comment dug at her.

Bothered more than a bit about some of the girls getting super-glammed up hair -- a real uncomfortable child pageant vibe.

amanda + alexander both had srs probs w/ non-model models

major upset in no judges saying 'taste-level' re sharquita

johnny crunch, Saturday, 27 September 2014 14:59 (nine years ago) link

amanda & alexander had more problems with tailoring & construction than anything their models brought to the table

amanda's proportions were terrible
alexander's was just generally poorly made all over

The Velvet Fog called me a motherfucker (Sandy), Saturday, 27 September 2014 20:06 (nine years ago) link

If this was one of the early seasons, she would have been the clear winner, or Kini

i am starting to deeply resent what this show has become, and what the judges are holding up as good design now

zac seems the lone holdout for finishing & construction, and even he can be wishy washy week to week

i am starting to deeply resent what this show has become, and what the judges are holding up as good design now

So very, very OTM.

Those first couple of seasons were so fabulous. Santino! Jeffrey Sebelia! My pretend boyfriend Daniel Vosovic!

It's really pretty crappy now, I remember why I haven't watched it since they moved from Bravo. UGH that they think that they have to pander to the Lifetime demographic. I WANT TO SEE SPECTACULAR CREATIONS, not crappy outfits that I could make myself.

I do really like Emily and Kini, I thought Fade was pretty cool, and Sean has come up with a few good things. And Sandhya's stuff was at least interesting and thoughtful until she made that onesie.

After Season Three, Tim Gunn and Angela Keslar did a promo tour of Macy's and they displayed a bunch of the winning designs from that season. Remember that striped green dress with zippers that Jeffrey made? OMG, you should have seen that thing up close. It was a work of art. It was SO masterfully constructed. It's a shame what they're doing now.

The Velvet Fog called me a motherfucker (Sandy), Sunday, 28 September 2014 01:58 (nine years ago) link

I always think of Jay's knitwear collection from S1, there's no way we'd see anything like that now

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 28 September 2014 02:56 (nine years ago) link

LOL @ the designers who had trouble finding muses on the street. Stop asking people with blurry faces you idjits! (I wonder if they could've dragged Tim along, or promised the muses the chance to meet him, I'm sure loads of fangirls would've jumped at the opportunity.)

There were a couple of other lulzy moments that now completely escape me.

I appreciated Nina's disclaimer at the beginning of the judging -- I always feel so terrible when non-models are up there wearing things that are torn to shreds and/or having their taste levels ridiculed. Same thing with Tim's decision to give Char another 10 minutes to fix the zipper: when you bring in non-models, really, they're doing the show a favor and should be treated with respect.

Anyway, is it any surprise that the designer with the skinniest, prettiest model won it?

I've watched a zillion reality shows and they all seem to follow a similar trajectory: if they last long enough, their aims start drifting away from their representative industries and develop their own insular cultures, and the judging begins to cater to the show's values, not the industry's.

cichleee suite (Leee), Sunday, 28 September 2014 04:26 (nine years ago) link

Korina's model said she was from Louisiana but I swear she has the German accent that Heidi's managed to lose.

cichleee suite (Leee), Sunday, 28 September 2014 04:28 (nine years ago) link

She DID have a German accent! She said she lives in Germany now.

Lol at how much bitching they milked out of Char's extra ten minutes. They could have just stated that they all wanted an extra ten minutes. But then they wouldn't have anything to bitch about.

Season One Jay's knitwear collection was so so fabulous.

Alexander should have ignored Tim and went with that crazy assed combination of prints, it was bizarre but he should have just went with it and defended the shit out of it to Posen. Sean almost got the auf last week for taking Tim's advice and dropping the fringe. Char went with her gut, ignored Tim, and was in the top.

The Velvet Fog called me a motherfucker (Sandy), Sunday, 28 September 2014 05:28 (nine years ago) link

Also did I mention that I really really hate Korina?

The Velvet Fog called me a motherfucker (Sandy), Sunday, 28 September 2014 05:30 (nine years ago) link

I agree with Tim. alexander's obsession with the polkadot needed to be stopped, the whole thing just made me sad

Also - rewatching on On Demand and I just figured out who Amanda looks like. Exactly. Harry Connick Jr.

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 29 September 2014 20:53 (nine years ago) link

looooool Korina
Was that the most ungracious exit from PR ever or what?

The Velvet Fog called me a motherfucker (Sandy), Friday, 3 October 2014 06:36 (nine years ago) link

And according to the preview for next week, we've got more Korina drama coming because those bastards at Bunim/Murray apparently decides to pair current designers with eliminated ones, Char's being Korina, of course

Anyway, I almost fell off my couch w/:

Korina: You shouldn't be here! You got eliminated!
Char: Don't point your finger at me! I'm still here!
K: This isn't about you, okay?

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Friday, 3 October 2014 06:40 (nine years ago) link

I mean, that had to be creative editing, no one is that awful, right

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Friday, 3 October 2014 06:41 (nine years ago) link

lol i didn't watch the preview, that is too much

johnny crunch, Friday, 3 October 2014 11:08 (nine years ago) link

god she is the WORST

if you want to show what a good designer you are maybe show how well you can use an hour by being efficient & not do a 16 piece pattern jfc

i wish emily had bailed on her in disgust

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 3 October 2014 16:54 (nine years ago) link

Here I was convinced that she was getting the redemption arc! lol whoops. TBH I liked her and Emily's mini-collection, but then I guess the producers wanted to inject MOAR DRAMA and got what they wanted.

Korina: You shouldn't be here! You got eliminated!
Char: Don't point your finger at me! I'm still here!
K: This isn't about you, okay?

LOVED THIS. I pray that it was real because it's just too rich.

The soccer ball dress was overpraised IMO -- the triangular bits that were glued(?) on cheapened the look. I liked the Frank top on Amanda's, though.

cichleee suite (Leee), Sunday, 5 October 2014 05:50 (nine years ago) link

my friends were all 'oh this season is soooo much better than last year' and i bailed on last year halfway through so I figured ok i'll check it out
but it doesn't seem much better? it's so shitty now

i feel like i'm trapped in an endless neoprene nightmare with this fucking show now

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 15 October 2016 08:26 (seven years ago) link

maybe I'm just a crabby old grandma now but I think back to season 1 with Jay's incredible knitwear and i just think, every single contestant now would cry actual tears if they were asked to create something even remotely approaching what he did

everyone's so fucking neon and precious and irritating. I can't think of the last time I actually LIKED someone on this show

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 15 October 2016 08:28 (seven years ago) link

yeah the switch to bunim murray led to the cast being a lot more real world like in their "quirks"
