iatee, Friday, 12 September 2014 02:26 (nine years ago) link

quincie, i had the coffee malt and compared it to stevie's coffee shake (unmalted). the malt and the coffee tastes sort of cancelled each other out in a weird way. it didn't taste very malty and it didn't taste much like coffee.

Hot Drexel Students (Treeship), Friday, 12 September 2014 03:55 (nine years ago) link

also, i really hope thursday shake shack quizzo becomes at least a semi-regular thing. mordy and other philly ilxors are more than welcome

call all destroyer, Friday, 12 September 2014 03:58 (nine years ago) link

so treesh did you prefer the straight-up, unmalted coffee, then, or did the combo achieve some sort of synergistic awesomeness?

also wtf where is the fucking burger review???? Stevie did you get the cherry peppers, I hope u did

also I would drink all of the $2 cocktails with you guys because you rule

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Friday, 12 September 2014 13:01 (nine years ago) link

oh yeah! the burger was v good, cherry pepper relish abounded, I think we both agreed that unmalted milkshake was richer and more flavorful than the malted one (I couldn't taste the malt at all!), it was an excellent meal. Perhaps not worth $13 for a burger + a shake, but possibly worth it for a burger, a shake, and (free) fries.

Between free fries and Quizzo it is very certain that these two #chillburgerbros will be Shake Shacking again in the near future

my double cheeseburger was, if anything, a lil too rich/meaty and would go for single next time. unmalted strawberry shake was VG, fries, as seems to be the trend here, were overcooked skins, shackodog was p good, overall p good but no supermacs

fedora, wherever it may find her (darraghmac), Friday, 12 September 2014 13:37 (nine years ago) link

My fries were lukewarm and soggy but flavorful but also way too short and thinly cut for my taste. You kind of had to pluck clusters of them.

Gay Fire Beautiful Dong (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 12 September 2014 14:05 (nine years ago) link

excellent summation, y

Belami Young (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 7 November 2014 22:14 (nine years ago) link

Like it has the most insaaaane umami richness to it!! It tastes like it has some sort of mushroom/white wine/glutamate component or something? IDK it's like if you deglazed the richest fond and then put it in cheese sauce!!! IT WAS BATSHIT.

Just went in on the Meister (DC SS). It was more crunchy onion bits than rings but still really good. Actually, bits are probably even crunchier.

Atlanta got a Shake Shack a few months ago, but I hadn't even realized it until a coworker posted his review on fb today: "Not a shack. The burger and shake are middling attempts. This place thinks a lot of itself, but its basically a seasoned-down, tarted-up Five Guys with milk shakes. 4/10, will not return."

Johnny Fever, Friday, 2 January 2015 00:19 (nine years ago) link

Who's on board with the IPO?

calstars, Friday, 2 January 2015 00:20 (nine years ago) link

That new burger was always available to people who understand that you can basically do whatever you want with the menu, like ask for the shallots that were offered with the hot dog on the burger.

Most people who don't think much of the place order the shackburger with nothing on it which is not in fact all that great. You need to either order up to the mushroom or bacon versions or down to the cheeseless burger with everything else, and in either case order rare so that you're actually tasting the meat. Most people who think it compares unfavorably to Five Guys lack taste buds.

Banned on the Run (benbbag), Friday, 2 January 2015 00:28 (nine years ago) link

I think the Five Guys comparison was a knock. Atlanta has no shortage of good burger places at which to dine.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 2 January 2015 00:30 (nine years ago) link

lol not a shack

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2015 00:38 (nine years ago) link

"I think the Five Guys comparison was a knock. Atlanta has no shortage of good burger places at which to dine."

As does any major city. That is not the category to which Shake Shack does, or pretends to, belong. However, it is at the top of the fast-food burger pyramid and the quality of its ingredients or combinations, when appropriately quality-controlled, can meet or exceed a non-fast food equivalent.

Banned on the Run (benbbag), Friday, 2 January 2015 00:41 (nine years ago) link

That said, I reserve it for special occasions these days. It may be good, but it isn't health food.

Banned on the Run (benbbag), Friday, 2 January 2015 00:41 (nine years ago) link

same

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2015 00:42 (nine years ago) link

I still haven't tried it, having only found out today that it's here. I probably will, though, because HAMBURGERS.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 2 January 2015 01:48 (nine years ago) link

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2015 01:49 (nine years ago) link

i might go grab a shackburger tomorrow.

call all destroyer, Friday, 2 January 2015 01:52 (nine years ago) link

We went to shake shack by barclay's center after a nets game because we had really wanted ice cream and not realized the concessions (blue marble etc.) close well before the game is over. They had some apple pie flavored custard, which I didn't think was very good. Still have never had their burgers/fries though.

man alive, Friday, 2 January 2015 03:16 (nine years ago) link

update: i grabbed a shackburger.
