Mordy, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 16:15 (nine years ago) link

It is working for me at this very moment.

jaymc, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 16:16 (nine years ago) link

Anyway, I came here to ask: Is there a way to filter the sorting hat so that it shows only albums?

jaymc, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 16:16 (nine years ago) link

mine says This track is currently not available in the US. If you have the file on your computer...

i'll restart my client and try again i guess

Mordy, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 16:18 (nine years ago) link

cool - that did it

Mordy, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 16:19 (nine years ago) link

Jaymc, I'll try to add an albums-only filter next week or the week after.

I don't know why I had any high expectations for this Mapei album, but...pew.

can i ask if someone here works for spotify—why can we not access "my music" on the ipad app yet? is that coming soon?

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 13:35 (nine years ago) link

Jaymc, I'll try to add an albums-only filter next week or the week after.

Cool, thanks, Glenn!

jaymc, Wednesday, 24 September 2014 13:57 (nine years ago) link

Yes, I work for Spotify, and yes, iPad updates are on the way! I don't know a specific date (and I'm not personally involved), but it shouldn't be too much longer.

da croupier, Thursday, 25 September 2014 23:10 (nine years ago) link

OK, for those of you with an aversion to singles, there's now an albums-only version of the Sorting Hat at http://everynoise.com/spotify_new_albums.html.

Thanks!

Also PRINCE how are you missing TWO NEW PRINCE ALBUMS that I just grabbed without looking here at all
But yeah, I'm going trawling tonight.

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 1 October 2014 18:06 (nine years ago) link

i did mention the prince albums but i'm not really a prince guy

i've gone through syro a bunch so i'm ready for the new

Mordy, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 18:10 (nine years ago) link

Holy crap, this week. A new CHVRCHES song and the deluxe reissue of Big Country's Steeltown would have been enough for me, personally, but there's even some new music that isn't from Scotland. I'm excited to hear the whole Tove Lo album, too. There's also a promising EP from fellow Swedish singer Laleh. I'm liking the new songs by Lorde, Tinashe and Fei-Fei. I'm excited that the new tyDi album has a song with Kerli singing. There's a VAMPS ballad and a Gackt soundtrack. The Last Bison, who I think of as one of the more interesting quiet stomp-and-holler bands, has a new album. Chihiro Onitsuka and Billys Sandwitches have a very non-idolish j-pop album.

In metal there are grim new albums I'm excited to hear by 1349, Khold, Nightbringer, Xerath, Nonexistence and Unit 731, and bright gothic extravagances by White Empress, Ancestral Legacy and Davey Suicide. And one of my old favorite neo-prog bands, Enchant, has a new one.

And then there is a pile of intriguing weird-noises albums I mostly don't know anything about, but flagged to hear: Ssaliva, Hampus Hyppe, Gus Till, Giant Claw, Second Suspense, Calvin and the Hobgoblins, The War on Peace, Toydrum. And there's a really pretty acoustic-guitar album by somebody called T-cophony that sometimes is just guitar and sometimes mixes in all sorts of other things and sometimes doesn't.

glenn mcdonald, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 18:19 (nine years ago) link

I especially think people here who are fond of Prince and Owen Pallett and FrankMusik and r-neg-b and vaporwave ought to check out this 4-song EP by "Calvin + the Hobgoblins", about whom the internet seems to know rather little. http://open.spotify.com/album/1cz9578wBlfpgFpm9heKUU

glenn mcdonald, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 18:46 (nine years ago) link

Hmm, this ep isn't too bad. Unfortunately the sound is really boxy/thin.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 20:45 (nine years ago) link

Also, the weird lyric lift from Radiohead in "Cherry" is unexpected and maybe a little awkward.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 20:48 (nine years ago) link

new prince albums are butt

Mordy, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 23:26 (nine years ago) link

glenn can you tell me if the canadian catalog is drastically different from the american like netflix?

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 2 October 2014 23:33 (nine years ago) link

No, the two are not drastically different. I just took a cursory look at some of the relatively few things that are technically available in one of the two countries but not the other, and all of the ones I checked were cases where a release is only available in one, but the same audio is available on another release in the other country. I'm sure there are actual differences, too, but I couldn't quickly find any.

glenn mcdonald, Friday, 3 October 2014 01:44 (nine years ago) link

thanks! i was using the US version via vpn (*slaps self on wrist*) but i really wanted to pay and couldn't—but was a bit worried about switching over.

socki (s1ocki), Friday, 3 October 2014 12:42 (nine years ago) link

I know this isn't the thread, but I have a tech Spotify question -- is there a way to easily/quickly see the full title of a track? Often classical music track titles are very, very long because they list composer, piece, orchestra, conductor, and only then the movement or sub-section and I can't actually see the last part.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Friday, 3 October 2014 14:43 (nine years ago) link

late to the game but:
Tove Lo - Queen of the Clouds

Meshuggah - I
Sam Amidon - Lily-O
Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives - Saturday Night / Sunday Morning
The Toure-Raichel Collective - The Paris Session

Calvin and The Hobgoblins - Hookup Kulture
Yelle - Completement fou

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 5 October 2014 23:55 (nine years ago) link

what is the calvin and the hobgoblins like?

Mordy, Monday, 6 October 2014 00:09 (nine years ago) link

Okay! A little weak on the production end but a single playthru is interesting.

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Monday, 6 October 2014 00:33 (nine years ago) link

The Calvin & the Hobgoblins EP sounds clearly like it was self-produced by somebody without a professional production background, but to me that's a significant part of its charm. Wild ambition mashed through the available filters and tools.

glenn mcdonald, Monday, 6 October 2014 15:25 (nine years ago) link

Any reason to listen to Yelle in 2014?

the Kazakh noun/adjective distinction (seandalai), Monday, 6 October 2014 18:56 (nine years ago) link

"Completement fou" (the title track) has been in my head for the last two days, so ... maybe?

jaymc, Monday, 6 October 2014 19:33 (nine years ago) link

"Any reason to listen to [ ] in [ ]?"

Sure, there are always reasons. I didn't even know what you were talking about, and it took me about 15 seconds to discover that I liked this: http://open.spotify.com/track/48qPo25VFExoldlr26LcxF
