yeah - it really threw me how awful it was. (I was pregnant, not a parent so I guess smacked me with reality of dependency on parents etc)

No, I haven't seen it.

Don't do it! Very distressing!

I was distressed and I have no kids!

Okay I won't see it! But some kind soul should link the thread (on Zing and can't search) so I can see what the upsetting part is.

I mean, I really liked the film, but I got the feeling some other people in that thread thought that scene was ridiculous or almost funny? xp
― ⌘-B (mh), Friday, 10 October 2014 13:19 (nine years ago) link
Well there was the one person who called it hilarious...
Yeah that sounds like it would be a bit much for me. Also all of the comparisons to Tarkovsky, my feelings about whom are best expressed by rolling my eyes really hard.
― carl agatha, Friday, 10 October 2014 13:22 (nine years ago) link
It was a good movie and I didn't have a strong reaction to the scene either way but i can understand why people wouldcongrats rrobyn -- your baby has a very dignified face

christ, time is slipping by far too fast for my liking (6 weeks to go)

I think it's the panic of loads of stuff needing doing and also 'oh hey life as you know it will change forever, appreciate it while you cannnnn'
Our new baby is already at 6 oz and it's still two months til the due date, she's gonna be huge too.

It took me like half the day to figure out what you were talking about. I meant 6 lbs, not 6 oz.

I had a dream that you told me what you named Baby 2 and it had four letters and ended in an -a but was a nonsense word like Fula or Gara or something. Anyway, if you haven't selected a name for this child, might I recommend Fula.

I just figured out this morning that I'm coming up on the year anniversary of checking myself into the hospital for my medically supervised confinement.
― carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 October 2014 19:51 (nine years ago) link
Our birth mom is due in 4 weeks and it's seriously freaking me out. At any time now we have to be ready to drop everything and set up camp 75 miles away for a couple days while going through all sorts of craziness involving her and her girlfriend, her family, the hospital, and the adoption agency and I have no basis for comparison for any of this.

I missed that too. I was just like "man, I guess it's been a while since I had this baby. I don't even remember all the numbers I'm supposed to know."

How's it going rrobyn?also I know sick mouthy has not long to go...
― kinder, Thursday, 6 November 2014 14:39 (nine years ago) link
It's going well! Almost 7 weeks! He went through a serious crying spell this week but it's calming down, phew (more to come of course...). We read Happiest Baby on the Block, which is helpful re: newborn crying/colic.
My body is readjusting slowly, and I get pain in hip, lower back, shoulders but it's normal apparently and lessening each week. My body does feel put through the ringer tbh, but I was in good shape before I got pregnant and shouldn't compare them to now. I'm prob going to see an osteopath though and will ease back into walking and yoga. I think I'll be on rock climbing hiatus for a while, though the woman who co-runs the bouldering gym I used to go to just had a baby so maybe we'll figure out some shared baby care there one day!

that Bay sleeper was the first gift i received for the baby, when i was only about 4 months pregnant - my hair stylist friend said he couldn't resist (he also recently bought him a tot-sized Gautier t-shirt, ha!). and the lambskin was given by a friend of my bf's who makes leather goods out east - pretty swanky!

but enough about us - i'm not even pregnant for the pregnancy commiseration thread! How are you doing, kinder?? You're close! I hope you're getting to rest a lot. Looking back at things, I seriously wonder why the hell I was doing work less than a week before i went into labour - my body was not happy and my brain was seriously struggling - maybe i was in some kind of weird denial about my abilities, haha, yeah probably.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Sunday, 9 November 2014 14:19 (nine years ago) link
aw thanks! :)
also, digestive upset, nausea, burping, farting may just continue off and on for a while after birth! i did not know this... sighi also didn't know how important bibs are! for spit-up and soon, drool, and later, solid food. so yeah, get a bunch of cute bibs...

My most surprising/unwelcome post partum symptom was night sweats. I'd wake up to pee in the middle of the night and have to change clothes because I'd be soaking wet and then freezing by the time I got back from the bathroom.
R, he is so cute!!!!!
― carl agatha, Sunday, 9 November 2014 15:09 (nine years ago) link
Oh man, yeah, the sweats. How quickly I forget.
― Madchen, Sunday, 9 November 2014 17:47 (nine years ago) link
I had some sweats but mostly just major milk leakage! That's lessened now
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Sunday, 9 November 2014 19:04 (nine years ago) link
Oh god yes that too. I was basically always sopping wet with milk and sweat. Sexy.
― carl agatha, Sunday, 9 November 2014 19:23 (nine years ago) link
He's so cute!!!I finished work last week. I was going to work until 38 weeks but got freaked out by everyone (2 people) telling me they stopped at 37 then the baby came the next day or the day after.I'm OK except my legs hurt if I lie down for too long. Also can't have the house to myself/a bathroom yet as building work still goes on. But can't really complain. Not really ready for the baby to come yet...
― kinder, Monday, 10 November 2014 09:19 (nine years ago) link
I figure if you're able to stop work a few weeks before due date, do it! I know I wanted to have zero responsibilities come 36 weeks but hey, life.) But I also know people who happily worked right up to due date like la dee da. Keep stretching those legs and taking Epsom salts baths. I'm not a bath taker but because I had such hip pain I took many in 3rd trimester and half-resented it - now I'm like oooh long baths what a nice concept... Even if I did get to take one I'd worry about falling asleep in it, ha.
Maybe your baby will wait for the home reno stuff to be done before deciding it's time to be born ;)
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 10 November 2014 18:21 (nine years ago) link
I've been dreaming of having a bath for months - it was the first thing to be taken out and will be the last thing to be put in :( Have grabbed one at a hotel when I was staying over for a wedding and one at my parents' the other week.Baby is super wriggly at the moment!

Ivy's first scheduled delivery date was today, so this time last year I was in the hospital convincing them to wait. Remembering all of this is giving me a lot of feelings!

― carl agatha, Wednesday, 12 November 2014 21:16 (nine years ago) link
That would have been a cool birthday, though. I think some of the nurses were a little disappointed I didn't go for it.
