I don't know, it was all fine I guess, there were like 5 minutes towards the end where I was like, "alright, I can dig how this could be a religious experience if you knew the song beforehand," but I had a hard time not feeling like a cultural tourist.

Phish is playing at the bowl. It sounds pretty tame, but there's a giant road sign on my street this week that says "PHISH SOLD OUT. NO OPEN ALCOHOL. NO TAILGATING. NO CAMPING. HAVE PHUN!"

yeah, that's generally what the proselytizing superfans don't get (other than that this band isn't as good as you think, and you underrate how much the crowd makes the live experience, and how equally little the crowd might be to some peoples' taste) - you usually aren't going to get off on the variations without knowing the theme (from the bottom). not that that should matter to jazzers, though they're probably not going to take this stuff seriously in the first place.

"Phish is playing at the bowl. "

Wish I were there and tempted to fly out for tomorrow night but I'll probably wait a week for SF if at all.

And I just got a call from my hotel asking where I was... (amateurs)

As far as real videos go, this one's hard to beat...

...or parody, though this comes close...

...And I always get a kick out of "#1" here...

It's too bad the several-minute-long "Phish wins the world series" after-show celebration from the Halloween 2010 run got pulled, but these give a bit of the flavor...

missed opportunity.

Neither those nitrous huffers nor Harris Wittels is who I want representing me.

The Wednesday crowd saw a much better show than the Tuesday crowd, which surely substantially overlapped.

And I still regret being in miserable NY weather rather than out there, but maybe next week...

"Seating Area and Concourses - The typical Phish audience does not mosh or body surf. They will, however, dance and twirl in any open area made available to them. This includes handicapped seating sections, balcony ramps, lobby areas, and the entire concourse. They will attempt to dance in any aisles that are not being patrolled regularly by an usher or event staff so it is important to have your staff in place before the doors are opened. If the patrons see that the ushers are being active in checking for tickets and correct seat locations they will be less likely to move into another area."

"In order to expedite the flow of concert-goers into the venue, the pat-down process should be limited to visual and light pat-down checks. Concert-goers do not need to be patted down from head to toe, as these searches traditionally do not yield substantial amounts at Phish concerts. (Please note: this is only a pat-down, not a extended search for illegal substances.)

...

Phish fans are a peaceful, intelligent group of people who respond better to courteous, respectful requests than to aggressive bullying. It is important that all staff and security be made aware of this fact and apply it throughout the show.... It is important that local police who may be working the event are made aware of the special handling many situations require.

Ushers and security should work together to keep aisles clear of people at all times.

...

We request that, for the sake of safety, the sale of alcohol ceases after the intermission."

"Before leaving venue, the medical staff should provide to Bart Butler or John Langenstein estimated or confirmed totals of patrons treated and transported. they should also inform them of any unusual incidents that can be passed on to the medical team in the next city."

gotta tell Bart and John about the ice cold whip-its

John retired (and I wouldn't know about Bart, but imagine he hasn't been around for a while). It's a bit out of date.
