I have a US Chip and Sig Card and the chip works just fine, it just forces the machine to do a signature transaction, completely useless but no swipe required. The only place I'e ever had a problem was germany where the don't particularly like cards anyway, really hate foreign cards, so foreign cards that don't obey the rules are an absolute no no.

Been a while since I saw the doc but can't recall it saying too much about him being a hermit. As so often in these cases (cf. Jandek) "hermit" is taken to mean "doesn't play live or give interviews". Scott travels on the tube, goes to the cinema &c.

I was havin a drink with a lady last night and outta nowhere the v odd guy on the stool next to me, who had been trying to engage us in conversation a little creepily for awhile, announced in my general direction that all the women in the joint were "hookers" and weren't with him because he "wasn't willing to pay for it." I immediately thought of all this shit. Like oh right, those dudes but irl, cool.
