Are there any actors whose output you follow closely?

I don't think I've ever known anyone who follows each role of an actor based on the quality of their performances.
Lots of people follow actors they find physically attractive but even then they usually don't make sure they see everything including the minor roles.

I have seen reviews and forum posts on imdb that suggest a fair amount of people do closely follow all sorts of starring and supporting actors, or maybe they just see so many films that they end up seeming like an expert on lots of actors.
Are these people most likely to be aspiring actors or people obsessed with acting?

i don't think i do this but my parents will definitely see anything on the basis that tom hanks or any of the million british comedians they're obsessed with is in it. i'm guessing if you took a poll asking people the #1 reason they go to see a movie and you remove big action blockbusters "actor/s i like" would take the lead by a mile. being an actor has nothing to do with it people just love tom hanks

film critics (esp who have moved to NYC) report their family's only question about a movie is "Who's in it?" (oh, a bunch of Kazakh folks)

zachlyon- But I think that's usually because Hanks happens to be in big films. I mean, do they really keep checking on imdb or join a mailing list so they can see all his work and brag on message boards that they've seen his more obscure tv appearances?

Isn't this the reason most normal people (read: not the kind of people who discuss movies on ILX) go to the movies? Or at least it was until the reason became "because it's about superheroes?" I always figured that basing my decision on what movies to see on who directed it seemed as weird to other people as "lets go see the new Julia Roberts is" does to me.

i'm guessing you were right before and those imdb nerds just 1. see a lot of movies 2. act like the pop culture authorities they consider themselves to be which means acting like an expert on tom hanks minutiae

I enjoyed her performance in The Unknown Girl, and was pleased when I recognised her wonderfully sulky mouth again in BPM.

recently become obsessed with the work of Teresa Wright (Shadow of a Doubt, The Best Years of Our Lives, The Pride of the Yankees), trying to see as many of her movies as possible. always great even in total shit like Casanova Brown. I have the Donald Spoto bio, waiting to read further until i see more of her work, but as I understand she was essentially blackballed after very publicly removing herself from a lousy contract (circa 1950). a few lesser known movies that she's great in:

Pursued (1947) - a Western with heat stroke. Robert Mitchum stars alongside TW, who is his love interest & step sister... hallucinatory in parts, but mostly a drag, cool-ish curio though, even if TW isn't in it enough.
The Men (1950) - Marlon Brando's screen debut. OK movie, short, worth checking out for that novelty & TW.
Something to Live For (1952) - Such a strange movie. Ostensibly about AA, but not really - Ray Milland is a louse, cheats on his wife (TW), and is never punished/reprimanded for it. TW never finds out.
The Steel Trap (1952) - Joseph Cotten and TW reunite 9 years after Shadow of a Doubt. another very strange movie, weirdly clinical/procedural, worth watching though. TW is blonde, afaik only time she changed her hair color for a role.
