am i forgetting a period of time in which peter sarsgaard was popular enough for that

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 10 November 2014 18:04 (nine years ago) link

dude didn't even have a movie coming out. like edward norton last year i think sometimes they just get a new york based actor who likely attends their after parties.

da croupier, Monday, 10 November 2014 18:20 (nine years ago) link

He hosted in 2010, and I think he was coasting off An Education and Orphan and was ramping up for Knight and Day.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 10 November 2014 18:49 (nine years ago) link

Oh wait, y'all are right. Wikipedia says 2010, but imdb says 2006. So fuck if I know.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 10 November 2014 18:50 (nine years ago) link

Jarhead I guess? Came out in late 2005 and he hosted in January 2006.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 10 November 2014 18:51 (nine years ago) link

I remember the sketch where he was an invited guest at a pirate convention. "saaaARRRRRsgARRRRRd"

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 November 2014 18:52 (nine years ago) link

i remember the Peter Sarsgaard SARS guard. they probably asked him to host just for that and the pirate thing.

mizzell, Monday, 10 November 2014 19:32 (nine years ago) link

he'd won a few awards and been in a bunch of 'big' films -- Jarhead, Kinsey, Shattered Glass etc -- plus he can also act and be funny, so yeah, why the fuck wd SNL need that in a host?

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 November 2014 19:40 (nine years ago) link

Seriously. I heard Guy Fieri's interested.

i only wanted freidn (Old Lunch), Monday, 10 November 2014 19:43 (nine years ago) link

That reminds me, it's been too long since Moynihan has played Guy Fieri.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 10 November 2014 19:44 (nine years ago) link

even for their "love that guy - he's got a week off, doesn't need a hotel room" slow week choices like malkovich, norton, buscemi etc saars is pretty low profile, though

da croupier, Monday, 10 November 2014 19:48 (nine years ago) link

prob most audience knew him (if they did) as the guy who turns around slowly while squinting at the twist of The Skeleton Key and Flightplan

da croupier, Monday, 10 November 2014 19:50 (nine years ago) link

srsly dude is really good at the "actually i'm the bad guy" face

da croupier, Monday, 10 November 2014 19:50 (nine years ago) link

he's no Josh Hutcherson-level superstar, it's true

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 November 2014 19:58 (nine years ago) link

"he's exactly a Josh Hutcherson-level superstar" seems to be the point everyone is making

the farakhan of gg (DJP), Monday, 10 November 2014 20:05 (nine years ago) link

minus a hunger games-level franchise

da croupier, Monday, 10 November 2014 20:08 (nine years ago) link

John Malkovich lives in France, I believe

let's get you back in time to '77 to produce SNL so Jan-Michael Vincent can host instead of Broderick Crawford.

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 November 2014 20:10 (nine years ago) link

sorry morbz, please ignore me

had supporting roles in several movies everyone forgot existed and had two talents lorne's never cared about

hutcherson's got a billion dollar franchise behind him u nerd

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 10 November 2014 20:18 (nine years ago) link

I dunno Lorne musta signed off on Maureen Stapleton hosting in spring '79 (and she hadn't even won her Oscar yet)

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 November 2014 20:23 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, but she was already pretty famous from All In The Family.

i only wanted freidn (Old Lunch), Monday, 10 November 2014 20:27 (nine years ago) link

Buck Henry hosted eight times in the first five seasons; I think SNL's hosting criteria were a bit looser in the 70s (unless Henry, as a performer, was box-office gold in those days and its been erased from history).

Drat.

i only wanted freidn (Old Lunch), Monday, 10 November 2014 20:32 (nine years ago) link

(Buck Henry was Oscar nominated for co-directing Heaven Can Wait in that period, but yes, that had nothing to do with anything. Also he was willing to play the "funny uncle" in the recurring pedophile sketch.)

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 November 2014 20:34 (nine years ago) link

You're never gonna see a Josh Hutcherson displaying that level of commitment to the show.

i only wanted freidn (Old Lunch), Monday, 10 November 2014 20:38 (nine years ago) link

oh i dunno, i could see creepy sketches and character acting in his future

Do they still put them up at the Omni? Forgot how they used to roll that promo at 11:55 each week.

"thanks to mystikal" -- cameron diaz on SNL in 2014

J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:02 (nine years ago) link

Decent episode. I'm as surprised as anyone else, but the Mick Ronson performances were my favorite parts. I'd see that concert.

Also, "Bill Cosby, pull YOUR pants up."

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:24 (nine years ago) link

kenan was so much funnier than anyone else on this episode, that bizaroo brian fellows skit was great

J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:33 (nine years ago) link

kenan's deadpanning has been so on point this season

J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:33 (nine years ago) link

My favorite Kenan face tonight was when Diaz was reading her UPS Man poem.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:35 (nine years ago) link

Also, Pete Davidson is going to waste while Kyle Mooney gets to do his 4,619th awkward teen bro filmed bit.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:36 (nine years ago) link

i thought that bit was funny tonight but when davidson was in that one sketch i was like "oh right he's on this show"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:42 (nine years ago) link

This first Mars/Ronson song is sounding like leftover Morris Day & The Time, which I actually mean as a compliment.

lol I called him Mick without realizing it.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 November 2014 08:04 (nine years ago) link

It sounds closer to "Living in America" to my ears.

Also, "Bill Cosby, pull YOUR pants up.

Can't believe it took this long for someone to make this joke

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 24 November 2014 01:55 (nine years ago) link

I have a serious crush on Vanessa Bayer. Every time she's on I have this stupid grin on my face. Can't even tell if she's funny anymore.

daavid, Thursday, 27 November 2014 04:59 (nine years ago) link

I'm pretty much always happy to see the ex-porn stars sketch but this could be the last time and that would be fine with me.

Kinda wish Nicki had done, like, good songs. And that first one that rhymed "lie" three times, yikes.
