Old (man for) lunch

owe me the shmoney (m bison), Monday, 10 November 2014 20:56 (nine years ago) link

even for their "love that guy - he's got a week off, doesn't need a hotel room" slow week choices like malkovich, norton, buscemi etc saars is pretty low profile, though

Do they still put them up at the Omni? Forgot how they used to roll that promo at 11:55 each week.

"thanks to mystikal" -- cameron diaz on SNL in 2014

J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:02 (nine years ago) link

Decent episode. I'm as surprised as anyone else, but the Mick Ronson performances were my favorite parts. I'd see that concert.

Also, "Bill Cosby, pull YOUR pants up."

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:24 (nine years ago) link

kenan was so much funnier than anyone else on this episode, that bizaroo brian fellows skit was great

J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:33 (nine years ago) link

kenan's deadpanning has been so on point this season

J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:33 (nine years ago) link

My favorite Kenan face tonight was when Diaz was reading her UPS Man poem.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:35 (nine years ago) link

Also, Pete Davidson is going to waste while Kyle Mooney gets to do his 4,619th awkward teen bro filmed bit.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:36 (nine years ago) link

i thought that bit was funny tonight but when davidson was in that one sketch i was like "oh right he's on this show"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 November 2014 06:42 (nine years ago) link

This first Mars/Ronson song is sounding like leftover Morris Day & The Time, which I actually mean as a compliment.

from the straining pagan waistbands (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 23 November 2014 08:03 (nine years ago) link

lol I called him Mick without realizing it.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 November 2014 08:04 (nine years ago) link

It sounds closer to "Living in America" to my ears.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 23 November 2014 13:35 (nine years ago) link

Also, "Bill Cosby, pull YOUR pants up.

Can't believe it took this long for someone to make this joke

Οὖτις, Sunday, 23 November 2014 16:11 (nine years ago) link

johnny crunch, Sunday, 23 November 2014 16:17 (nine years ago) link

I'm glad people are digging Mooney, he was MY generation's Pete Davidson

from the straining pagan waistbands (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 24 November 2014 00:27 (nine years ago) link

love mooney but mckinnon is frequently mvp

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 24 November 2014 01:54 (nine years ago) link

also great to know during a cosby boycott mars/ronson are still glad to give mystikal work

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 24 November 2014 01:55 (nine years ago) link

I have a serious crush on Vanessa Bayer. Every time she's on I have this stupid grin on my face. Can't even tell if she's funny anymore.

daavid, Thursday, 27 November 2014 04:59 (nine years ago) link

I'm pretty much always happy to see the ex-porn stars sketch but this could be the last time and that would be fine with me.

Kinda wish Nicki had done, like, good songs. And that first one that rhymed "lie" three times, yikes.

Pooja Bhatt's erotic thriller Jism 2 (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 7 December 2014 09:49 (nine years ago) link

yea bed of lies is awful

johnny crunch, Sunday, 7 December 2014 14:27 (nine years ago) link

i seem to remember that the ex-porn stars sketch used to not be about sex but just dim people mispronouncing things terribly and generally failing at class aspirations. now it seems to increasingly about dirty puns.

celfie tucker 48 (s.clover), Monday, 8 December 2014 03:41 (nine years ago) link

Well there was always that weird sexual element ("One time my eye got sucked out by a butt!") but it's definitely getting a little cruder with every iteration. I had actually heard that the sketch was officially retired.

BTW I didn't see Spring Breakers, but I'm wondering - was Franco's character pretty much his imitation of RiFF RaFF? Because that was fucking terrible. Like he had never seen or heard the dude. Even coming before Kenan's low-effort Rick Ross.

someone told me that kenan has now done more impersonations than darrell hammond? anyone else hear this? is it upthread and i'm a dummy?

apparently he's done 108 celebrity impressions now

(HOT CHICK FROM BAR 2008) (Will M.), Monday, 8 December 2014 15:31 (nine years ago) link

just curious if SNL has touched Ferguson or Staten Island in the last few weeks, or if it's all still impressions of celebrities unknown to me

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 December 2014 15:50 (nine years ago) link

yes a large part of weekend update

$0.00 Butter sauce only. No marinara. (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 8 December 2014 15:56 (nine years ago) link

That would've been the funniest sketch of the night by far.

not all that surprising as hammond was never the only white person on the show iirc

he is great in Spring Breakers, which is def worth watching if you dig Harmony Korine. idk what was going on w Franco's shitty Riff Raff impression on SNL

Οὖτις, Monday, 8 December 2014 16:38 (nine years ago) link

just curious if SNL has touched Ferguson or Staten Island in the last few week

they opened with it this week

Οὖτις, Monday, 8 December 2014 16:38 (nine years ago) link

I didn't see it, but read someone tweet they thought the opening was tone-deaf because that person thought the skit only made fun of Al Sharpton

curmudgeon, Monday, 8 December 2014 17:21 (nine years ago) link

I didn't think it was a particularly good sketch - the big jokes seemed to be mispronunciations

Οὖτις, Monday, 8 December 2014 17:24 (nine years ago) link

That's the key feature of Kenan's Sharpton impersonation.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 December 2014 17:27 (nine years ago) link

it wasn't the only target, but the laugh lines about the incredulity of the Eric Garner case fell really, really flat, so it turned into the audience only laughing at the mispronunciations.

Leslie Jones reddit AMA

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:21 (nine years ago) link

says she's 47 in that - will officially be the oldest new cast member in the show's history if she gets bumped up (mckean was 46)

da croupier, Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:27 (nine years ago) link

she is very funny. actually like the new episodes i've seen this season. they have more of an edge than in recent years.

Daniel, Esq 2, Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:28 (nine years ago) link

they're bringing in more stand-ups and word is that they're increasingly hiring people who auditioned as performers to be writers, rather than people who submitted writing packets (i.e. leslie jones). i think it leads to a show more wildly hit-and-miss than when it's all ucb/second city/io ensemble types, but they probably needed to shake up the cruise control mode they've been in for a while.

da croupier, Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:40 (nine years ago) link

they probably needed to shake up the cruise control mode they've been in for a while.

Letting the improv-trained cast actually improvise would be one way to do that.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:46 (nine years ago) link

I'm glad Mike O Brien is still around and getting to make these movies. I liked Growaguy.

dan selzer, Thursday, 11 December 2014 00:47 (nine years ago) link

grow-a-guy was great. the aggressive bullying by that one guy was almost uncomfortable to watch, which can be a very good element on a show like snl.

Daniel, Esq 2, Thursday, 11 December 2014 01:23 (nine years ago) link

the sketch embedded above is hilarious by modern SNL standards

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 11 December 2014 02:03 (nine years ago) link

I just ran across this guy's website:

http://www.dwdiamond.com/L2L.html

he was on SNL once years ago and has sent Lorne Michaels like, 3000 letters since that he archives on his site.

ok kyle mooney as adnan/kris kringle is great

magi mane - the myrrhprint (Will M.), Monday, 22 December 2014 14:41 (nine years ago) link

lots of great impressions in that one tbh

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 22 December 2014 16:54 (nine years ago) link

the three singers chewing on garbage sketch was incredible

Whiney G. Weingarten, Saturday, 3 January 2015 15:55 (nine years ago) link

I thought so too, but 1D fans were furious because airing that apparently meant dropping another sketch in which they were featured.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 3 January 2015 16:06 (nine years ago) link

well that ruins everything
