the reissue of endless summer is almost the reverse of this phenomenon

the slightly garish cover reflects its origins as a turn of the century glitch album, the touch reissue turns it into something more sombre and dull

i bought this copy of underwater moonlight last year just because i'd never seen it and really liked the cover. 1986 reissue. turns out it sounds amazing! as good as i've ever heard it.

to be fair to Bell Records, they might not have had the art for the original album at that time. i think al green put that album out himself originally? but still, what the hell is that cover? really bad whatever it is.

the border thing and extra writing can really drive you nuts. it's always ugly. a sticker on the cd will do...

This one is kind of interesting because the original cover with the girl was restored on the original CD edition back in the 80s, but when the album was remastered the original cover appeared only on the now-OOP deluxe edition while the band photo cover appeared on the more common single-disc edition (which doesn't include the OG art at all in it's package).

Somebody used the Japan/European sleeve of Agharta as a major influence on their artwork for one panel of an ABC Warriors story in 2000AD I remember noting at the time.
Also I had a really naff glossy sleeve picture on the vinyl copy of The Zombies Odessey & Oracle I picked up in the early/mid 80s. Can't really remember what it looked like beyond it having a blue sleeve and a totally different picture
― Stevolende, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 22:06 (nine years ago) link
When the first CSN was reissued last, for some reason they photoshopped Dallas Taylor off the back cover. I can't find the new one online, but basically they clonestamped the window pattern over where he was behind the door.

almost of of the Felt CD reissues had their cover altered in some way, I think this is good thing though, if it's done well- a design that works well at 12" record sleeve size is not necessarily going to work at CD sleeve size- it always bugged me that on the CD version of Get Happy they didn't size up the coffee mug stain to the correct dimensions

xpost to be fair (re: the Can Anthology), it maybe gave too much prominence to Malcolm Mooney (who was the first and final singer, the original issue being when Can were just about still going), over Damo Suzuki (more albums), and more that the four guys were the mainstays.

not heard of name changes before !
just remembered re cover changes.
a large chunk of the on-u sound catalogue was reissued by EFA back in the late 90s.
the reissues overimposed the original image with a strange coloured M thing.
example :
http://www.skysaw.org/onu/images/imagebank/sp-onulp11-front.jpg
http://www.skysaw.org/onu/images/imagebank/sp-onulp11-mr-front.jpg
each release had a different colour variation.
not totally offensive, but i would have preferred the original image.

Yeah I mean, those B&F covers are pretty great! They looked good at the time and still hold up pretty well, but in the long run they're going to end up looking really dated to a particular place and time that has nothing to do with the actual music. They probably helped sell a lot of CDs though.
I'm not sure if the red and green pick a dub cover is original. The little inset version on the b&f cover is the black and white version, so maybe that came first?
― wk, Thursday, 20 November 2014 23:13 (nine years ago) link
This isn't godawful and it's technically not even a reissue (it's just the Spanish version of the cover released at the same time as the rest of the world got the zipper cover). But anyone who hasn't seen it before should.
