"hey baby, you're a sack of potatoes, we could grow eyes for later" is a pretty hilarious lyric, willow

weird he hasn't posted any demands to go along with that threat

da croupier, Wednesday, 24 December 2014 14:14 (nine years ago) link

I love Hollywood kids. Cf. the Willis children. I can smell the jealousy some people have. Being jealous of black kids = progress.

Threat Assessment Division (I M Losted), Wednesday, 24 December 2014 15:06 (nine years ago) link

great post

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 24 December 2014 17:22 (nine years ago) link

Being jealous of black kids is a tidy summation of the last 30-odd years of popular culture iirc

N337 (rip van wanko), Wednesday, 24 December 2014 17:34 (nine years ago) link

i think the reaction to these kids is more adorbz/goth teens are goofy/etc

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 24 December 2014 17:49 (nine years ago) link

people say that now, maybe won't be saying it when the kids are riding around on their customized Scientology-slave-made motorcycles

What a world!

Jeff, Friday, 8 May 2015 00:10 (eight years ago) link

which is to say: i didn't think she had it in her

she dances like her dad

DJP, Friday, 8 May 2015 17:50 (eight years ago) link

She looks just like him!

I like that song.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Friday, 8 May 2015 17:54 (eight years ago) link

This reminds me of Me Phi Mi, like dayglo afrofuturism.

bamcquern, Friday, 8 May 2015 19:37 (eight years ago) link

Into this but I must register my disapproval of her unnecessary double trad grip snare drum miming.

lil urbane (Jordan), Saturday, 9 May 2015 00:51 (eight years ago) link

erm i just saw this and wtf

it seemed like it was going to be good for the first 30 seconds but i don't like it

dyl, Sunday, 10 May 2015 04:46 (eight years ago) link

this album is sort of terrible :////

cher guevara (lex pretend), Friday, 11 December 2015 18:14 (eight years ago) link

there's a surprise

Οὖτις, Friday, 11 December 2015 18:19 (eight years ago) link

it is for me! 'why don't you cry' and 'F Q-C #7' are both pretty great. I'll have to try myself.

Does that make you mutter, under your breath, “Damn”? (forksclovetofu), Friday, 11 December 2015 18:31 (eight years ago) link

ok this album is bizarre

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 19:30 (eight years ago) link

it tries very hard to give that impression, and it's definitely not boring, but i cringed so much during it. (her delivery is especially try-hard)

cher guevara (lex pretend), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 19:45 (eight years ago) link

mostly it made me think about how very easy it is to give the impression of being a strange weirdo, and how easy it is to conflate that with seeming like a genius auteur

cher guevara (lex pretend), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 19:46 (eight years ago) link

there's something very honestly 15-year-old about the album that i appreciate. she's definitely had a singular existence, yet the lyrical themes are echoed by my students (with different particulars obviously), and the music's veering between grinding and soothing is very adolescent-brain.

maura, Wednesday, 16 December 2015 19:55 (eight years ago) link

was gonna say that i would appreciate "try hard" from willow right now, she really SHOULD be in that state

Does that make you mutter, under your breath, “Damn”? (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 20:26 (eight years ago) link

right, i appreciate it as an artefact of a teenage mind with a lot of ideas, but i don't think they work as music or songs much. wouldn't be surprised if she works out how to do that in the future, this feels very straight-from-mind-to-record without much editing process

cher guevara (lex pretend), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 20:30 (eight years ago) link

okay going in

Does that make you mutter, under your breath, “Damn”? (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 20:34 (eight years ago) link

yeah, this is a mess. but an endearing mess! not so much so that I want to listen to it again tho'.

So, The 1st, then. Far less WTF than the last album but still pretty singular. "And Contentment" is the pick of the bunch for me.
